Chapter 8

859 Words
Cal POV   I smelt her before I saw her. Initially, my back was facing away from the main stage, leaning on the bar. I had just finished asking the bartender for a whiskey neat. As he handed it over to me, I was engulfed in her sweet aroma. The smell of honey and cocoa wrapped its way around me, but it was the soft aroma of lavender that almost caused my knees to buckle.   I immediately became on alert. I knew this had been what I had been waiting for for years. I looked to my left to tell Emilio that I found my mate, but the look on his face was a mix of excitement, anger, horror, and so much more.   “Emilio are you okay? You look like your world just came to an end.” I told him as I reach out to him.   “I just need to get out of here.” He said pushing my hand away and immediately turned his back and bolted out of the room.   Now had this been anyone else, I would have questioned their respect and loyalty, but since I have known him since we were in diapers, I knew something had thrown him off. I would just allow him time to cool off.   I decided this would be my time to stalk my mate. I wanted to see who she was and get to observe her more.   I remained in the far back corner, but I had a clear line of sight to the stage. I was able to witness her take the oath of alphas. I knew she could feel me watch her, but she did not react. She stayed focused and poised. It was remarkable how she was able to keep her emotions under wrap for such a big task.   After it was over, she was escorted off of the stage by her father. He showed her around and allowed her the chance to get to know the other alphas in the surrounding areas. As she moved around, I saw her chatting more until she was face to face with my parents. I started to make my way over to them.    In listening to our parent’s chat and seeing her parents' faces, I slowly started remembering seeing them throughout my childhood. I was so much older than Mackenzi or Kenzi we called her, that I never played with her. I was more focused on being an alpha.   As I get closer to her, I am taken back by how beautiful she looks in her red dress. It hugs her in all the right places. As a guy, I pride myself on my clothes and I can tell she does too. All of her rose gold accessories made the dress coordinate perfectly. I really wanted to take my hand and unhook her chocolate curls and bury my face in her neck and inhale her scent. I could feel Demon become antsy. He recognized her wolf and wanted to become one with her. Wolves do not court, they lay claim to what is theirs. I wanted to make sure we did this the correct way because she is also an alpha and we have a lot riding on her acceptance of us.   I know that sound bad, but once our parents find out we are mate, they are going to go overboard in everything. They will expect a merge in the packs. I do not see Kenzi stepping down as alpha to take the Luna role. She has worked too hard to just accept the second. This is something we will definitely need to discuss.   Just then I heard my mom in our link.   ‘Cal, can you please come over to meet our friends.’ She sounds.   ‘Coming mother…’ I simply replied.   I heard my mom explaining my sister was indisposed at the moment.   “Mother…” was all I sad before I turned my gaze to Mackenzi. I could see her looking me up and down from toe to head before she reached my eyes.   Before I realized what was happening, I step up to her and rubbed the pad of my thumb along her smooth olive skin. I immediately felt the sparks as they raced through my body. I know she felt them too because she shivered up my touch. I leaned in and whispered into her ear, “MINE.”   She immediately nuzzled into my chest and replied, “YOURS!”   We stayed like that, drowning out the world around us. I knew our mothers had already started planning the ceremony and no doubt our fathers were planning the merger of the packs. But at that moment, all I wanted was her.   “Would you like to dance with me?” I asked her, hoping I didn’t sound as nervous as I felt on the inside.   “I would love to,” she replied in a simply sweet tone.   I grabbed her hand and lead her out onto the dance floor, not caring about the people around us. At that moment she was the only thing that mattered to me.
