Chapter 1
_______________
The ancient clearing lay bathed in the silver glow of the moon, an ethereal stage for a night that was meant to be filled with love and unity. Cassie, radiant in her white gown, stood beside Herald, their hands entwined, their hearts racing in anticipation. The murmurs of the pack members, gathered around them, were like a distant hum in her ears.
Cassie's eyes locked with Herald's, and in that moment, it was as if the entire world had faded away, leaving only the promise of their love.
The engagement party was a sort of some alliances between sparkles and moonlight pack to tighten their relationship together.
Like in some places whereby the marriage between two parties is sometimes context marriage but this isn't this case the two getting married are in love with each other and have decided to get married which sealed their parent's bond even more.
If there's something she had wished for all her life was getting married to the man standing beside her presently. Her whole world are centered on him and she waited and prayed for the day he will sealed their relationship publicly and it's finally happening.
"Gosh, I'm damn exicted" her wolf Caddie squealed happily in her head.
Alpha Marcus who happens to be Cassie's father took hold of the mic his voice resonating like thunder. Tonight, beneath the watchful gaze of the moon, we gather to celebrate the union of Cassie and Herald. A union that strengthens our pack!
The collective howl of approval from the pack members filled the night air, their voices echoing with joy. Cassie and Herald exchanged heartfelt vows, words that spoke of love, loyalty, and a future together. Unbeknownst to Cassie, shadows loomed on the edges of the clearing.
Herald grinned, his fingers tracing a loving path along her jawline. "And what a beautiful beginning it shall be."
She noticed some sudden change in his voice but quickly waved it off "maybe he's feeling very nervous since their engagement will be the talk of the town for some months so it's okay to be nervous" she concluded in her mind.
The room hushed in anticipation as Herald took the microphone, his magnetic presence capturing every eye in the room. "Ladies and gentlemen," he began, his voice a symphony of warmth and charisma, "I thank you for gracing us with your presence tonight, as we come together to mark an extraordinary moment."
The celebration continued while the newlyweds went on to greet the important guest of honor who graced them with their present.
In a secluded place Cassie's best friend could be seen with her husband talking in a hush tone.
Ellen who wasn't happy at how things were going whispered urgently to James, her eyes seething with malice…"James, we can't let her take control of the pack. We need to act".
James wasn't sure of what he wants but definitely he wants power… Hesitating, torn between love and loyalty he gave an uncertain response to her "But the alpha has chosen her. We must bide our time"
Ellen who was blinded by power and lust was meant reminding him of their plan from the beginning (Sharp and insistent)
"Patience won't serve us, Herald. We need to seize this opportunity now!"
Ellen's whispered persuasion planted seeds of doubt in Herald's mind. As the ceremony continued, he felt torn between his deep love for Cassie and his loyalty to the pack. The moonlight above seemed to waver, as if it, too, sensed the inner turmoil.
Herald wrestled with his conflicting emotions, the weight of Ellen's words heavy on his conscience. The moon hung overhead like a silent observer, casting a pallor over the clearing. She watched Cassie and Herald, their smiles radiant, as they mingled with the pack members, unaware of the treacherous thoughts festering in the shadows.
As the night wore on, the celebration reached its zenith. A bonfire crackled at the center of the clearing, and the rhythmic beat of drums filled the air. It was a night of unity and joy, a night that should have marked the beginning of a harmonious era for the pack.
However, Ellen's whispered poison continued to corrode Herald's resolve. He couldn't ignore the allure of power, the prospect of becoming the alpha himself. It was a seductive notion, one that gnawed at his loyalty like a persistent hunger.
Ellen, not one to sit idly by, approached Herald again. Her voice was like a serpent's hiss in his ear. "James, you know what we must do. The pack deserves a stronger leader, one who won't be blinded by love."
Herald clenched his fists, his inner turmoil intensifying. He looked at Cassie, who was now dancing with her father, her eyes filled with pure happiness. His love for her was undeniable, but Ellen's words had sown the seeds of doubt. He imagined himself as the pack's alpha, the power coursing through his veins, and it was intoxicating.
"I... I need time to think," he stammered, his voice trembling.
Ellen's eyes narrowed with impatience, but she nodded. "Very well, but remember, Herald, this opportunity may not come again."
"we both know vividly well that once Garrett returns into the pack he will take position as the alpha and everything will be ruined" she reminded him once again
As the night progressed, the bonfire burned lower, casting elongated shadows that seemed to dance to their own macabre tune. Herald retreated to a secluded spot, torn between his love for Cassie and his desire for power.
In the distance, Alpha Marcus raised his glass for a toast, and the pack members joined in, their voices a chorus of jubilation. Cassie and Herald, now wearing matching crowns of moonflowers, beamed at each other. They were oblivious to the impending storm, the darkness that threatened to shatter their newfound happiness.
Herald's inner struggle raged on. He knew he needed to make a choice, and soon. The pack's fate hung in the balance, teetering between unity and discord. As the moonlight continued to bathe the clearing, its silver glow masking the treacherous thoughts that swirled in Herald's mind, he felt the weight of his decision bearing down upon him.
With each passing moment, the lines between love, loyalty, and ambition blurred, and the moonlit tale that had begun with promises of unity now faced the ominous shadows of betrayal.
