Synopsis

"You and Kylian can no longer continue this joke of a marriage"

---

I had a blissful marriage with Kylian, the second son of the Blackwells who were the wealthiest, most powerful and influential family in New York.

But everything shattered when on our wedding anniversary, my mother in-law put an end to our marriage, saying I wasn't eligible to be married to her son because I wasn't from the same social and financial background like them.

And Kylian, my husband who I had spent a year with could not even say anything to defend our marriage. He just sat there like a good boy and watched our marriage burn to the ground.

Anniversary Dinner
Chapter 1 - Anniversary Dinner Lisa's POV I couldn't wait for my anniversary night with Kylian. Today was exactly one year since we got married and I had prepared the most beautiful and expensive cake I could to show him how much I was happy to be his wife. "Put the cake right there" I instructed as the contracted baker and her staff carried the large cake into the dining. They gently placed it down, carefully balancing it in the midst of the large banquet of meals I had prepared. Kylian's family was coming! I had to make an impression to them. For the first time since we got married, they were visiting our house. I had asked Kylian several times why they never visited but he always replied that they were busy people and I could understand why. I mean who didn't know the Blackwells? They were the richest and most popular family in all of New York. Kylian's father, Lord Kane Blackwell was a founding father and shareholder in many businesses all over the big city. And the Blackwell Group was the parent company to the most prosperous companies as well. He had two sons. Kendrick was the heir and first son while Kylian was his second son and the more popular one because he was smoking hot. Their sister Karen was also in the family business. So I believed him when he said they were busy people. I was the most lucky girl in the world when Kylian proposed to me. Ever since he came into a jewelry store where I worked as the sales manager, he took a liking to me. I never expected him to be serious because he was so popular and every girl in New York's dream that I believed he was a playboy. But well...here we are a year and six months after that, celebrating our first anniversary. I quickly fell in love with him because he wasn't the usual rich kid stereotype. He was so caring and loving I almost believed he wasn't real. Even with his busy schedule he always made time for me and showed me great care. I never felt for one day that I was in a different class from him. That was my lover and husband, Kylian Blackwell. So of course, I was going to make the best impression on his family for our first meeting and my and Kylian's anniversary. "Thank you so much" I smiled to the baker and her staff as they left the mansion. Whew! To say I was nervous was an understatement. I had gone through severe torture to make sure I prepared what I believed people of their class would like. "Starters...check" I went over what was on the table. "Main course...check, dessert... check" I cross-checked to make sure evehrhi was set. Then I heard a loud honk outside the gate and my heart leapt in my stomach. They were here! I excitedly rushed upstairs and changed into a more appropriate dress, adorning myself to look as presentable as possible to the Blackwells. By the time I was done, I could hear their voices and chatter as they entered the mansion. I climbed down the stairs and saw them walking into the living room. My eyes first landed on Kylian, my tall, handsome, smoking hot...in a word, perfect, husband. Then I saw Kendrick, always corporate and serious in attire and his facial expression, and Karen, ever elegant and sophisticated, beside him. They were muttering something to themselves. Lord Kane and Lady Katrina were the last to enter, their arms locked in each other's as they walked in graciously with the air of the most affluent couple of the century. I almost lost my breath just seeing them. They were the perfect family. I immediately felt like I didn't belong. Even though Kylian had always told me; "Don't feel like that, Lisa. You're my wife and the moment I married you, you became part of this family. You belong with us. You belong with me" he would always say anytime I brought up not fitting into their family. Their eyes all fell on me at the same time, immediately mounting an invisible pressure on me. I smiled nervously from the stairs, hurrying down to meet them. "Good evening, welcome. So nice to see you, Lord Kane, Lady Katrina. And you too Kendrick. Karen, you as well. I'm so happy to finally meet you all on this special occasion" I greeted nervously, almost running out of breath as I talked faster than my mouth. Karen was the first to answer. "Hi there, Lisa. Nice to see you too" she smiled at me. I smiled back, waving childishly. "Please, come to the dining. I've prepared meals for you that I'm very sure you'd enjoy" I gestured to the dining. Kendrick didn't say anything, he just looked at me for some seconds before walking towards the dining. Lord Kane and Lady Katrina were the next to move. Lady Katrina simply smiled courteously at me before they moved. The smile felt official and not heartfelt at all. I exhaled lightly, not knowing that to think. This was my first time meeting her properly. Even on the wedding day, we didn't speak to each other at all. She was with her high profile friends and social circle all through. Karen moved next, smiling at me as she looked between and Kylian before moving on. What's going on? I was confused. I looked at Kylian and he avoided my eyes. Huh? That was a first. "Did anything happen?" I asked him, moving closer to know what the issue was. He still didn't look at me. He didn't answer. I immediately became alarmed. "Kylian, talk to me. What's going on?" I asked, grabbing his hand. He gently pulled his hand from mine, exhaling as he closed his eyes. My heart leapt again, in shock this time. "Let's just...join them, Elizabeth" he muttered and walked towards the dining table. My heart sank. That was the first time he called me first name in full since we got married. My heart raced, pounding terribly as I watched him sit at the dining table. I walked to the table and sat beside him but he never looked once in my direction. I was devastated. Had I done something wrong? Was I guilty of a sin I didn't know or was aware of? What went wrong in just one day? And today of all days? What could make my sweet and loving husband not even want to look at me again? My head spun as I tried to understand what was happening. I was completely lost in my own home. The maids came and opened the food and began serving everybody. By the time everyone's plates were set, Lady Katrina was the first to speak up. "Lisa dear," she called sweetly, flashing that official smile at me again. I looked up at her, my eyes lost and confused. Then she folded her hands and looked at me intently. "We've decided as a family that you and Kylian can no longer continue this joke of a marriage"
