“ You know you don't have to do this right?” I could hear the frustration in Nikki's voice. “I don't have a choice, my family needs me now more than ever, I can't stand to see my dad lose everything he's worked so hard for.” I said, holding back the tears. “ Lizzie I want you to listen to me,” turning my head to face her, “ It's not your place to sacrifice your career, your life and everything you love for your family. Your dad and Pete are hardworking men and in no time they'll be right back on their feet, or you can just run away, go somewhere far, I promise I'll support you, please Lizzie. You don't have ....” She was trying so hard to convince me not to go ahead with the wedding, when we heard a knock on the door, moments later the door flung open. It was Pete. “Hello ladies, we're running late, come on now.” Pete walked into the room, an ornery grin on his face. “You look so beautiful Elizabeth, I know mum and dad are proud of you. Thank you. We'll be waiting for you,” nodding at Nikki, he strolled out of the room, shutting the door behind him. Pete seems to be the only person excited about my wedding. Pete has always been a self centered person, he was so relieved when I agreed to marry Richard Rochester in exchange for his help to revive our company. I could still hear his pleading voice in my head, telling me how dad deserved a second chance, and I was the only one who could help him get that, how dad has given us everything we ever wanted, and we owe it to him to help him out of this mess. I didn't agree to marry Richard because Pete tried to emotionally blackmail me to do it. I know Pete doesn't care less about Dad and his health, he only cares about the company. ‘Green Horizon investments’ meant the world to my Dad, it was single handedly built by grandfather, alongside my dad and it breaks my heart to see everything he worked so hard for go down. So agreeing to marry Richard Rochester to save Green Horizon was a decision I don't quite regret. “ Lizzie, can you hear me?” Nikki called out, immediately I snapped out of my thoughts. “Yes, I'm ready.” I said. Looking defeated, Nikki held her hand out for me to hold them, “Let's go get you married then.” She smiled at me, but I knew she wasn't happy. Stepping out into uncertainty, I knew I wasn't prepared for what is to come.
