Chapter 40

3743 Words
In that empty corridor of the kingdom, both the King and Queen were walking down and it was only Barka who was stamping his way away from there, as always angry, and right behind him at a little distance kept was his queen. Evi wanted to roll her eyes so badly with the way he was not talking to her, and walking away. But here she was, containing herself so well, just so she could avoid another face to face mean talk with him. She could definitely feel the anger that was consuming him, and it was very much real and at the same time very much exhausting with the way he was with her all the time as well. "I don't understand why you keep getting so angry with me all the time." She said, but Barka continued to walk, and he did not reply to here, not giving her an answer and continuing to walk into the same kitchen while she followed him. Not answering the question was something that caught her of guard as well. She squinted her eyes, this was new to her. Evi though, she stared at his back for a few seconds, tried and understand what was going on with him. "See, it is not me who has to eat food, it is you." She said pointing her finger at him. "You keep getting so grumpy with me all the time. Maybe you are the one who skips dinner. I don't remember seeing you eating anything ." Evi let out, as she kept on talking and saying everything she could to him. That she thought had a point but the king, on the other hand, he continues to make his way inside the kitchen, and within no time Barka started to pull open the refrigerator. Evi though, she stood by the door watching him as he pulled out meat and vegetables out. And now she was so surprised to see what he was doing and why he was doing this as well. In anger, people yell, scream, talk. He cooks, and not even for him. Quickly she yawned a bit and moved out of the kitchen slowly. She was taking small steps in her bare feet and glanced outside to look at the large clock that stood proudly. There she saw it was two in the morning. "Are you sure you are not tired to do this? I can just have what ever is there in the fridge." She said, mostly whispering softly while Barka refused to speak to her. Evi though, she couldn't help but feel as if he was getting angry and angry by the second. His emotions are now stronger than before. It was rigid, but also a little refined. She would have never felt that before but this time she did. Surprisingly, Barka went on continuing on with his work and cleaning away the ingredients. Evi could hear how the water was hitting the vessel and loudly it was echoing through this empty, but extremely immense large kitchen. Hitting her ears. It was painful. But he pulled it away from the sink and placed them on the massive Island. Now, chopping away the ingredients while seasoning the meat as well. He had a process and a plan here, and this was something she did not see coming. Surprised now. he did not even say a single word to her, anymore. She was in shock now. However, Evi noticed how there was this extreme strictness on his face, very firm it was and cold at the same time. Like he was concentrating on her, but mostly maybe it was because there was no light in here. The only light that was coming inside was the light from the moon and from the large windows that went from the ceiling to the island in the kitchen. "Should I turn on the lights...................." "Can you stop talking for one second Evelet?" He said to her, calling her by her full name. her eyes went wide, and she shut up. But this time he sounded much different to her, much more scary, and she actually felt a shiver run down her spine to her legs. That is the kind of power that the Alpah Lord had, and it freaked her out. She for the first time said, nothing and her mouth shut. But the man was so angry it was raising out of her. His hand still holding on to the large knife, but spread around the wood. The King was breathing harshly, or at least he was trying to breath. It was just a lot for him. "This is all killing me from inside and, for the first time, it is not just my work. But me. I am..................." He said, his voice sounding nothing like him. But suddenly Barka stopped right there and then. His thick rough voice no longer going about that, but he was screaming at the Queen of the kingdom. Now she was starting to listen to him, but said nothing. Although she was not sure why he is talking and he said all that. Looking back up at her. "I am worried about you constantly. All the time." He said, and that came as a shock to her. Her eyes went wide open. It was exactly what it was. She always expected his wolf to care about her, but for Barka, to say all this and mostly while in anger. She did not see this coming. Not even for one second. "Bark........." "Let me speak.." He said, stopping her and his voice only getting even more vicious this time, or than it was before. "I don't know what's going on anymore, Evelet. There are things that you are seeing at night. My enemy keeps coming to her thoughts, dreams. A vampire here, a girl who is my sister and now she is close to dying. And now I have a queen and there are people who will come after me, thinking of you as my weakness. I have a responsibility of the kingdom and you and so much more............" He said speaking for the first time, speaking and letting her know about these thoughts, for the first time as well. This was just so shocking to her. "I wish, I knew what was coming like before, but for the first time in years I do not know....... I knew every aspect of my life when my father was alive, when my mother was ruling with him and I knew every day how things would go. How every war would end,, what would be the policies of the kingdom and who we would make the policy and treaties with. But you........... with you Evelet." He said, and she gulped, staring at him. "I don't know........ I don't know anything anymore." He said to her, and this some how actually scared her. Looking away from him now. "I expected many things from my life, but mate was some thing I never expected, and I was very vocal about this with you. But now, now things are different." He let out. "How so?" She whispered. "I care about you now..." He said to her, just spoke up. Looking back at his Queen. This time Barka wasn't screaming at Evi, wasn't even giving her attitude and not even the silent treatment either. But he was actually talking to his mate, Barka was letting her know what he thought, what was going on in his mind and all this was for the first time. And now she had an inside view of his idea, of the day of his life with her or without her. She didn't have to ask him, he was just telling her and not only was this shocking for Evi, but scary, and amazing, yet on point. This was a very good reason for her to stop talking. And shut up for some time. The king then slowly let out a small breath that he was holding inside of him for so long. She could understand that very well, Evi used to do it quite constantly with herself as well. "I don't mean to........" Evi said, but could not finish. "I know........" He said stopping her right there and then. How ever, that came as a surprise as well. Evi was all over the place now. "I have stopped blaming you a long time ago, understanding that everything cannot be your fault. I am just trying to understand what all of this is about." He said and she gulped, nodding her head. "A mate is a big responsibility, I understand that, but there is so much more to it then this. Isn't it?" He asked and softly she nodded her head. This time confidently walking up closer to him and not too much closer. But she sat down on the dining table that stood by the window. The light of the moon was now falling on to her face and illuminating it enough for him to see. "This is one thing I do not want from you, Evi, and that is for you to not eat on time." He was scolding her again, nicely this time and all she could do was nod her head, and nothing else. "It is very important for a wolf to have good food, especially now that you are a Queen. Your health is very important for your people." He said to her, while the King was about to continue, but the man stopped right there and then. "Is that why you got angry with me ? because I did not eat?" She asked, confused. "Hmmm.." He hummed. "I mean. That is what I thought it was as well but........" He said nothing but continued on chopping, immediately turning on the stove and placing the meat in there, getting it cooked for her. "You do realise............." She said, when suddenly she too stopped talking, and was smiling to herself, looking way the Alpha Lord. Barka, on the other hand, he was interested to know more. "Go on.." He said encouraging her. "I am not sure about this, you don't like me talking that much." She said to him, taunting him. How ever he let out a small hum, taking care of the food. While she sat back on her chair, comfortable now. "I was going to say that, you could have asked one of the cooks to cook for me, or just told me to go eat what ever I wanted from the fridge. I am sure it is well stocked in there." Evi said to him, pointing at the refrigerator but getting and getting comfortable around him. "Why do you always have to cook for me? I am sure you are tired as well. And on that you have an important date tomorrow. Seems like we have a festival." She let out, talking about the full moon and the celebration that comes with it a well. "I don't recommend you eating cold food Evelet. Even though you like to eat cold food." He said and this was something she had never told him before. She stared at him surprised as to how he knew so much about this and her. "But I can't sleep knowing you haven't eaten any thing yet. I told you my wolf and your thoughts completely consumed me." He said to her, opening up entirely. While all she could do was stare at him, as he was going about his work with the meat the vegetables. Everything smell so good and she was actually more than hungry now. Evi wanted to eat it so bad, and every bite of it as well. But everything he said to her, something started to move inside of her chest. She wanted to ignore it but it was had. He was always caring, she had seen that, but in a different way he was. How ever, whatever he said to her was shocking to Evi. She bite the inside of her cheeks as he started to plate away for Evi. She was yawning yet again, so tired from the day she had and her eyes beginning to close. But food was coming her way. And with in no time, he walked away placing the large plate in front of her, and fork and knife. "Eat every thing." He said, as she stared at her food, happier than ever. And now the King was walking away from her. When suddenly she sat up straight, looking away from the plate and at him, sad and scared. "Are you going to sleep now?" She asked, hoping he would not leave her here all alone. But quickly the alpha Lord turned around, looking in to her eyes. And in her face the man saw how she did not want him to leave, and that kind of wanting made him so sad. "Of course not, I will never leave you Evelet." He said, and it came out so suddenly that she was not even expecting it. What he had to say was shocking for both of them. Needless to say, she was taken a back, blinking her eyes softly as both of them coming back to their senses. She started to blink her eyes, trying to understand what had just happened between them and over her. Immediately, she looked away from the king, having a hard time keeping eye contact with him. How ever, the man clenched his jaw, shutting his eyes close. And up to the fact that he was too not understanding any of this any more. Mostly his own behaviour. Slowly he turned around from there, making his way towards the wine collection that was kept there, a small collection that was easier to get through as well. Hee did not want to go down to the cellar, as he knew he couldn't leave her there alone, especially after she had asked him to stay with her. And so he wanted to stay himself as well. How ever, the queen, on the other hand, watched him as he walked slightly away and she was looking down at the previously cooked meat. Eating it up while watching his every move as well. Immediately she shut her eyes, realising how well it was cooked, delicious even. She was ever hungry and very sleepy as well. These two were a great combination to eat such delicious food. How ever, as she was slowly opening her eyes, that was when she noticed Barka was coming back to her. But with a bottle of whiskey in his hand. She let out a small hum, relaxed that he wasn't leaving her here. "Would you like a glass.." He asked, and she started to shake her. "It's okay...." She let out, yawning yet again and going about eating her food. This confused him a little but never the less, he got one glass for himself. He sat down right next to her, watching her as Evi's concentration was only on eating. "I still didn't understand you. If you were this hungry, why not eat?" He asked. "I had a lot going in my mind.." She said, and he did not like that. "So do I, both of us have responsibilities Evelet, but so does our body as well." He said, drinking away. "This is really good." She complemented him. He smiled, knowing she was right. "I mean, I know you hear it all the time about your food, but this is some next level thing." She said, even eating like a monster right in front of her mate, a king. Maybe she should be nice about this, but she was trying. Although the beast inside of her was making it all a bit difficult. But fortunately to her, Barka cared very little about it as well. But there was one thing that was bothering him. "At least, chew a little bit before you swallow it Evelet. You do not want to choke on your food." He said, as she nodded her head. But now there was this silence that was surrounding the room, it was peaceful but too silent as well. Evi's very tiring eyes had started to fall on her yet again, but she was trying her hardest to keep them open. Just for the food she had not finished yet. "I learnt something about your kingdom yesterday.." She said and now Barka giving her all his attention. The man was little fascinated as he backed away from his seat, watching her. "What did you find?" He asked. "About your parents, they were so in love.." She let out almost immediately and without warning him. Slowly Barka then glanced away from her and back to the glass. A sense of pain that came back to him was harsh and he couldn't say anything about it. But the King was ready to listen to her. "What else did you find about them?" He asked, this time truly wanting to talk about his long lost family. But she was oblivious to it, rather the Queen was thinking about it. "I mean, I learnt that they were great warriors and all that.. With some good stuff." She let out, still thinking when some thing actually came to them. "Can't believe what all they both have done for the Kingdom, and they fought the kingdom of rouges as well. I can not imagine the kind of strategy they might have used. i am sure that war was brutal." Evi said, continuing on as Barka was going back to his though, more over to those days with his mother and father. Evi was still going on about it while Barka was continuing to take small sips from the glass. NoT interrupting her, and letting her continue. Although, Evi was getting more and more tired now, sleep was coming over yet again. "Hmmm......." Barka said, finally letting out a word from his mouth. "Yes, they were very strong, always." He said, agreeing with her with was not very common. "But how they died........ that is something that is not very correctly informed." Evi said, trying not to be insensitive about that, she just said what was given. "I mean that information isn't written in there, but why not?" She asked. "I didn't think it was important. There is a lot more information for the people, good ones, happy ones even." He asked, trying to divert her mind and never once was he looking at her direction. "Why do you want to know?" He asked her, and she was shaking her head. "I don't know...." She said, making him stop on his track and that was that. She did not know. However, Barka, on the other hand, wasn't the same anymore. He could not control his irritation as of now, holding on to the glass, as tightly as he could. But for the queen though, this was over for her as of now. her eyes lids had forcefully started to form heavy on her face, not being able to control her self anymore. But she knew she had to stay awake and listen. "Today, or tonight might be the wrong time to talk about this Evelet. But not worry, there will be a time for this, and I will let you every thing. Just not now." He said, sipping away his drink yet again. "I am a bit tired." He said, taking one more sip from his drink as he waited for an answer from her. Barka was now patiently waiting. As he thought that maybe Evi was eating something or still, swallowing this time, which was necessary. "I do understand you like getting answers to every one of your questions Evelet, or you start to throw a tantrum by giving me the silent treatment. But trust me, when I tell you this. There will be a time when I will explain it all to you. You will not be kept in the dark, I promise you that and I will never back away from my promise." He said this, again waiting for and answer and not getting one. "Do you understand me?" He asked that again, but the same thing happened, she did not answer him back, rather his confusion him. Barka then turned towards her, facing her only to see that she was not even paying attention to him, but that was not it. He was a little taken to know that she was not even here. Her head landed on the table, and her eyes closed. She was not even listening to him. And just like a child, she had eaten her food, and fallen a sleep. Not just lying there, she was completely knocked out. Softly snoring as it was coming from her mouth, she was at peace. It was then that he realised how truly tired Evi really was from the day she had and mostly from the training she had as well. No idea what came over him, but immediately the man let out a small smile. Like his body pushed it out of his system as he was looking at the state that she was in. It was the most interesting event in his life, in his whole being. Barka had seen many things in this world and in his life, but yet he has not seen anyone like Evi before. She was the queen to the outside world, and yes she had gained the respect of the people, which is never easy. She still became their queen in their eyes. It was not just a title anymore for her. But behind closed doors, she was a completely different person. Messy, fighter, loud, angry and always hungry. And more than all of that, she was a child inside. Nothing and no one was like her. He had never seen a person this way. He liked it, her difference in life, her choice, her talk. He liked it. He couldn't help but feel that she was no longer afraid of this house anymore, of this place, which was good. She was taking this place as her own and that brought happiness to her life. He was glad to hear this or at least see as evidence. Slowly Barka pushed her hair out of her face, knowing this couldn't be the right position to fall asleep in. He knew he had to take her up stairs.
