The headache I had from dealing with these new business partners could not compare to the hunger I felt at the moment. I could tell that Gabriel was afraid of what was to come, of what those two would be planning on doing now that he is at his knees thanks to the piece of information they know. In one side I do not blame Gabriel for choosing the path he took, it would be reckless to act without reason however a part of me just could not help but be upset at him. With the powers he wielded in theory he could simply wipe away all issues, and worry about nothing just like the last God would have done. He is different though, he seems to have given up on the plans that were left behind for him. Instead he has chosen to give everyone the free will that they always believed they had, the very same reason everyone tries hard to be themselves he had given it to everyone in existence. Whether there is a reasoning behind this I am not sure, on the surface based off of the information you get from bounty reports you see him as this ruthless warrior who has killed, and destroyed many things. Then you meet him as a person, and there seems to be much more to him than what you originally believed. He behaves like a child at times, and wants to do nothing but mess around but at a moments notice he becomes an adult able to weight out his options and act on the most rational one. There is no logic to his thinking at times, but by the same hand he seems to think about everything before moving a finger. I no longer know what to expect when he speaks, it could be the answer to one of my life long questions or a comment that will mildly annoy me for the rest of the day. As annoying and just odd as he may be, I have come to slowly grow fond of him despite going against the idea originally where this little friendship may lead I am to discover but until then I will focus on what's ahead of us. At the moment is a nice plate of what I assume is cooked meat, some pasta and a rice of sorts. I ate calmly, however Gabriel had a bigger appetite than me somehow and managed to get three plates filled with God knows what sort of food.
"Easy there tiger, don't want you kicking the bucket to a bone before we even begin our first mission. I knew you were hungry but isn't this a bit exaggerated?"
I asked with mixed emotions. I was worried that his appetite may mean something with his abilities, and fearful of just how much food he was eating and how quickly as well.
"Shush, I am just hungry alright. We haven't had any food since our fight yesterday, I get hungry after any sort of confrontation so add the little meeting we just had to it and you got my appetite."
I guess that answered my question, stress eating is one way to deal with your issues and I will not judge him since I tend to have similar habits. Still, I could not help but be bothered by the thought of his abilities malfunctioning for some reason. God or not, there has to be some sort of punishment to ignoring duties as a God and not using the powers given to you.
"Fine, enjoy yourself then. Just don't forget to chew, you look like a hamster."
I said with some humour in my tone, hoping that maybe some jokes will be able to calm him down a bit. My jokes were not the best I knew that but if it kept him from throwing a supernova on accident due to a panic attack it was worth the shot.
"I will eat this and then more. Do not test me child"
He said back to me with a smile, trying to talk as he chewed through the food. I ate with some haste, but after my hunger died down I took small bites here and there and drank some water as I felt my stomach reach its limit. I took one look around the cafeteria, to my surprise there was a diverse amount of characters around here. From four armed hairy beasts, to petite female looking aliens. It seems like this woman has been making deals, or blackmailing people for a very long time now might as well be the devil herself.
"Alright I am gonna go poke around, hopefully there is some sort of armory around here so we can get some weapons before landing. We don't know what to expect afteral"
Gabriel nodded as he stuffed his face with the third plate of food, disgusted yet impressed I waved at him as I got up and walked out of the cafeteria into the hallway where there did not seem to be that many people walking around.
The place seemed to have a dominant red coloring just about anywhere you went, some black here and there as well but it seemed like scarlet branded her name anywhere she could. She seemed self centered to say the least, it was no surprise she would do something like this for her own entertainment. As I walked down the dimly lit hallways I came across the little boy, I remembered his name and chose to talk to him since we would be stuck together for a while.
"Hey, you are Grim right?"
I asked in a soft tone to not scare him, truth be told I was being an asshole in front of the other two in order to keep myself from looking weak minded in front of them. I was actually more worried if the boy would come back alive from a war of that scale, according to the documents the Amazonia wars were bloody and merciless.
He responded with a shy wave as he kept his gaze down, it was then that I kneeled down to his level that I noticed his hand pressed against his stomach as if he was hurt after we left.
"Hey are you okay kid? Did you get hurt?"
I said softly, keeping my distance but still vigilant to how he reacted to my words. He kept his eyes low still and did not make a sound. I could feel the fear in his soul, as if being hurt was another reason to be hurt further.
"Hey it's okay. I promise. I can help you I promise, I just gotta see how bad the damage is."
It was like trying to approach a wounded animal, he was tense and felt cornered. Any quick movement I took would be taken as a sign of aggression. I saw how he took the abuse from the other woman, I needed to show him that I was not the same. After a small wait he let go of his stomach and started to unbutton the fancy outfit he wore to show a large bruise in his stomach.
"Fuck... This looks pretty bad. Luckily I know how to help, I am gonna put my hand against it okay? I promise I am not gonna hurt you."
I said softly as he finally looked up at me, his eyes seemed that of a lost puppy begging for mercy. I gently placed my hand against the bruise making him wince in pain for a brief moment as the bruise was slowly healed at the best of my ability. As much as I hated being part Angel the powers it brought were useful, but since I was only part celestial I could only do so much. Even then my energy was drained dramatically too, if I did it more than I could handle I would be the one at the brink of death.
"There, that should do it. I am sorry about the beginning, I should have warned you. My name is Lucifer, I'll be working with you for however long we are in Lion Nine. Nice to meet you."
I said softly as he looked down at his healed wound with surprise and what seemed to be joy behind the muzzle he wore. To no surprise, the muzzle was also red and black it made me internally angry knowing that he wore it because of her. He looked up at me, and made a sound behind the mask to what I assumed to be a "Thank you"
"If you need anything just let me know alright? Say my name and I'll come to help. The other guy's name is Gabriel he'll be happy to help too"
I tried my very best to seem as nice as I could, keeping the level of trust I earned with him steady and well. He finished buttoning his shirt up then looked at me once more. He softly tried to speak, his jaw gently moving along with the sound he tried to make.
"Lu...Luci...fe-"
He stopped himself from talking as I saw a trickle of blood travel down his cheeks at the very end of the muzzle he wore. I became worried once more as he looked down and before I could speak he ran away, I tried to walk behind him but he seemed to disappear. I was left with a sickening feeling in my stomach, a pit that felt many ways wrong. I could not tell how old he was, but that boy has suffered far more than I could even imagine.
