CHAPTER 1
Emilia Grey stood outside the imposing skyscraper, her heart racing with anticipation and trepidation. The building seemed to loom over her, casting long shadows in the fading light of day.
She took a deep breath and pushed through the revolving doors, entering a lobby that seemed to whisper secrets in her ear. The air was thick with the scent of smoke and something else... something darker.
The receptionist, a pale and gaunt woman with sunken eyes, greeted Emilia with a faint smile. "Welcome, Miss Grey. Mr. Karkoth is waiting for you." Her voice was barely above a whisper, sending a shiver down Emilia's spine.
Emilia's heels clicked on the marble floor as she followed the receptionist to the elevator. The doors slid open with a soft hiss, revealing a dimly lit interior that seemed to pulse with a malevolent energy.
The elevator lurched to life, carrying Emilia upward with a slow, deliberate pace. She felt a sense of unease growing in her chest, as if she was being pulled into a trap from which there was no escape.
The doors opened onto a corridor lined with eerie artwork that seemed to watch her every move. Emilia's skin crawled as she followed the receptionist to Karkoth's office.
* * * *
Karkoth, a towering figure with piercing eyes and chiseled features, glared at Emilia from behind his massive desk. His presence was both captivating and terrifying, like a stormy sea that threatened to engulf her.
"So, you think you have what it takes to be my assistant?" His voice was low and menacing, sending a shiver down Emilia's spine. She felt a flutter in her chest, a mix of fear and attraction that left her breathless.
Emilia stood tall, trying to hide her intimidation. "Yes, sir. I have extensive experience in administration and management." Karkoth raised an eyebrow, his gaze piercing through her like a dagger.
As the interview concluded, Emilia left the office with a sense of unease. She couldn't shake the feeling that Karkoth was hiding something, and that she was stepping into a world of darkness and danger. Little did she know, her life was about to change forever.
Karkoth leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers together. "Tell me, Emilia, what makes you think you can handle the demands of this position?"
Emilia hesitated, sensing a trap. "I'm a quick learner, and I'm not afraid of hard work." Karkoth's eyes narrowed, his gaze piercing through her.
"I see," he said, his voice dripping with skepticism. "And what do you know about our company, Emilia?"
Emilia swallowed hard, trying to recall her research. "Karkoth Industries is a leading player in the tech industry, with a focus on innovation and growth."
Karkoth's smile was cold and calculating. "That's correct. But do you know what sets us apart from our competitors?"
Emilia shook her head, feeling a sense of trepidation. "No, sir. I don't."
Karkoth's eyes glinted with amusement. "We're not just a tech company, Emilia. We're a gateway to a new world. A world of darkness and power."
Emilia's heart raced as Karkoth's words hung in the air. She felt a shiver run down her spine, a sense of foreboding that she couldn't ignore.
"And you think you're ready for that, Emilia?" Karkoth's voice was low and menacing, his eyes burning with an otherworldly intensity.
Emilia swallowed hard, trying to find her voice. "Yes, sir. I'm ready." Karkoth's smile grew wider, his eyes glinting with approval. "Good. I think you'll find that working for me is a unique experience. One that will change your life forever."
Karkoth's gaze seemed to bore into Emilia's soul, as if searching for something hidden deep within her. She felt a shiver run down her spine, but refused to back down.
"Excellent," Karkoth said, his voice dripping with satisfaction. "I think we'll get along just fine, Emilia. You'll start tomorrow, at 9 AM sharp."
Emilia nodded, trying to hide her trepidation. She knew she had to get out of there, before she signed her soul away to the devil himself.
As she stood to leave, Karkoth's eyes seemed to flash with a fierce intensity. "Remember, Emilia, I always get what I want. And what I want is you."
Emilia's heart raced as she fled the office, the words echoing in her mind like a warning. She knew she had to be careful, for she had just made a deal with a devil in disguise.
