Chapter 1
"Mom?" I called out, but there was no response. Fear gripped my heart as the wind grew stronger. I started running, yelling, "Mom! Mom, where are you?" I kept calling her name until I found myself outside the kingdom. I stopped in my tracks, my eyes wide with shock.
The White Lotus River pack, renowned for its beautiful blue and white flowers, lay in ruins. Flowers covered the ground, and my people fought against strange wolves attacking the kingdom. Fire engulfed the area, causing chaos and destruction. Lifeless bodies fell as I watched people being brutally killed.
My breath caught in my throat as my mind raced to think of my parents. I scanned the area, shouting, "Mom! Dad!" while running through the chaotic palace.
Suddenly, a wolf blocked my path. I screamed and fell to the ground, pleading, "Please don't kill me," as I crawled backward in fear. The wolf advanced with anger, growling and foaming at the mouth. I was helpless, unable to transform at sixteen, and couldn't imagine fighting a wolf.
I slowly closed my eyes, bracing for my cruel fate, when suddenly I heard another growl and the sound of a wolf whimpering. I opened my eyes to see a majestic wolf I instantly recognized as my father.
"Father," I whispered as he attacked the wolf, fighting fiercely. As I was about to stand, someone grabbed my hand, making me flinch. A familiar voice calmed my terrified heart—it was my mother. "Thalia, my child," she said, pulling me close.
Tears streamed down my face as I clung to her. "Mother, what's going on?" I asked, my eyes on my father, who was still battling multiple wolves. My father, the Lycan king of the Lotus pack, was powerful and always praised for his courage and strength.
My father suddenly stopped and turned toward us, letting out a loud howl that summoned more wolves to defend the pack.
My mother grabbed my hand. "We need to go," she said, not giving me a chance to respond before pulling me onto her back and running swiftly.
As she ran, I shouted, "Mother, we need to go back for Dad!" My voice was hoarse, and I felt sick, on the verge of throwing up.
Suddenly, another wolf slammed into my mother, sending me flying off her back and crashing into a tree. I hit the ground hard.
"Mom, Dad," I muttered as my head started to spin, my eyes half-closing. My heart pounded as I saw my mother being brutally killed by the wolves surrounding her. "Thalia, my child," I heard her voice in my head just before she took her last breath.
"Mother," I whispered, tears in my eyes. I turned to see my father fall to the ground, his gaze fixed on my mother, leaving him vulnerable to attack as he no longer had the strength to fight.
I watched helplessly as my parents were killed before my eyes. Forcing myself to stand, I was suddenly struck on the head. Pain shot through me, and darkness enveloped me.
It felt like a nightmare, a blur I couldn't fully grasp. The only clear memory was a woman repeatedly calling me Thalia.
My eyes twitched as I heard voices. Slowly, I opened my eyes and saw girls around my age or older. "She's awake," one of them said. I sat up immediately, fear coursing through me.
"Where am I?" I asked, scanning the unfamiliar room filled with girls. Some were crying, which made me wonder what had happened to them—and to me.
Suddenly, the door opened wide, drawing everyone's attention. A woman entered, her heels clicking on the floor. She was impeccably dressed in a black dress, with her red hair pulled into a ponytail, and she had a fierce look on her face.
All the girls immediately cleared a path, bowing their heads and looking down in fear. It was clear they were terrified of her.
She stopped in front of me, giving me a warm smile. "Welcome to your new home, dear," she said, making my heart tighten with confusion. Who were these people? Where was I? A flood of questions filled my mind, leaving me feeling lost and scared.
