Chapter 5

The guard led me through Alpha Damian’s fancy house. I felt scared and confused. How did I go from being used by someone else to taking care of Alpha Damian’s sons? He stopped in front of a big wooden door and unlocked it. Inside, the room was nice but plain, like it wasn’t meant for comfort. “You stay here until we tell you what to do,” the guard said, then left, closing the door behind him. I sat on the bed, trying to understand what was happening. Why did Alpha Damian pick me? What happened before that he was so worried about? I heard footsteps and looked up. One of Alpha Damian’s sons was standing in the doorway, looking at me like he didn’t trust me. “You’re our new guardian?” he asked, sounding angry. I nodded. “I guess so.” “Why?” another one asked sharply. “I don’t know,” I said honestly. “Alpha Damian didn’t tell me much.” They looked at each other, not saying anything. They clearly didn’t trust me, and I didn’t blame them. “We don’t need a guardian,” the first one said firmly. “Maybe Alpha Damian has a reason,” I said quietly, feeling their suspicion. They nodded together but didn’t look happy about it. “What’s your name?” the second one asked, a bit softer this time. “Thalia,” I replied, feeling a bit better that they were talking to me. “I’m Zev , that is jarl and Orion” Zev introduced “Lovely names, hope we get along” I said trying to sound friendly, as I stretched my hand forward for a handshake. They nodded again, still not friendly. “We’ll see how long you stay,” the Jarl muttered, and they all left the room ignoring me. Alone again, I sat back and realized my life was tied to theirs now. I was sleeping peacefully for the first time ever, not having to worry about waking up for dance practice, but my peaceful sleep was cut short when I felt a whole splash of icy water poured down on me. "No!" I exclaimed, jolting awake to find the triplets staring at me with malice in their eyes. "Oh Zev, look at this one still sleeping," Orion mocked. "Pathetic," Zev sneered, tossing the bucket aside with a clatter that hit my head sharply, causing me to yelp in pain. "You better get your excuse of a self up and go make us breakfast," Orion barked. I stood there speechless, soaking wet and unsure how to respond. "Let's go, guys," Jarl said dismissively as they all turned and left, leaving me drenched and alone in the bed. I quickly hurried down to the kitchen, although it took me a few minutes to find it in the unfamiliar mansion. Determined to make a good impression, I decided on scrambled eggs and toast for the triplets. When I placed the breakfast in front of them, Jarl immediately shouted, "What is this?" He flipped over the burnt toast in frustration. "I... I'm sorry," I stammered, feeling my cheeks burn with embarrassment. Cooking wasn't my strong suit, and the toast had turned out badly. "How dare you feed us something like this?" Orion snapped, pushing the plate away with disdain. I couldn't help but wonder if they were intentionally trying to make me leave. "What's going on here?" Alpha Damian's voice boomed from behind us. The triplets' faces instantly shifted to expressions of fear, which left me wondering what they were hiding.
