“What did you just say?” Zev's eyes, which had widened before, were now darkened.
I gulped and squeezed my eyes shut for a moment before opening them again.
“I said you guys can’t go anywhere,” I repeated, walking toward them.
“What the heck?” Jarl scowled.
I folded my arms, standing in front of them.
“You can’t be serious right now,” Orion said, looking at me with eyes that pleaded for me to say I was kidding.
But I wasn’t. I am their guardian, and I can’t afford anything happening to them while they’re drinking and being reckless at a party.
“I am damn serious,” I uttered.
“And who do you—”
I raised my hand, silencing Zev as he looked at me in shock.
“I am your guardian, and I don’t need to remind you of that,” I simply said.
“This is bullshit,” Jarl yelled, glaring at me.
“Sorry, not sorry, but I’m just doing my job,” I smirked.
Zev clenched his fists tightly, and I feared he was going to hit me, but I wasn’t about to back down. Alpha Damian had warned me never to let them do anything that could tarnish the pack’s reputation, and what could be worse than being seen misbehaving at a party?
Zev raised his hand, and I immediately turned to the side, expecting to feel a sting on my cheek, but felt nothing.
I looked up to see his finger pointed at me, his eyes burning with anger.
“You,” Zev yelled, his finger still pointing at me, looking like he was doing everything in his power to hold himself back.
“Will regret this,” he told me before shoving me aside with his shoulder and walking away, the others following suit.
I scoffed as I watched them walk away. “Arrgh,” I yelled in frustration, pointing at them and squeezing my hand before jumping up in exasperation.
“I just can't with them,” I groaned. The sky made a thunderous sound, and it started pouring rain.
“It’s raining,” I yelled, running towards the house.
“Getting your uniform all soaked in the rain—how typical of your kind,” Becky remarked as she passed by.
I don’t know what Becky’s problem was, but I had a feeling we weren’t going to get along in this place.
I quickly rushed to my room and shut the door behind me.
“Time to get out of these suffocating clothes,” I said, starting to remove the wet uniform.
After stripping off the damp clothes, I walked to the bathroom and turned on the shower.
The water came running down my face. As soon as it touched my skin, I felt a chill down my spine as the cold water streamed over the rest of my body.
I finished bathing and put on the nightwear provided in my wardrobe. It fit perfectly, making me wonder when they had taken my measurements, as everything I wore was fitted except for that maid outfit.
I looked at the wet uniform lying in a heap on the floor. “I should probably get these washed,” I sighed, picking up the clothes and heading downstairs.
---
After some winding around the palace, I finally found the laundry room. I immediately threw my clothes in and waited for the wash cycle to begin.
“What are you doing here?” a voice asked. I turned to see Madam Rose staring at me with an emotionless expression.
She looked like a dark witch.
“Uhmm… washing… wet,” I stuttered, trying to calm my racing heart at her sudden and intimidating appearance.
“Those aren’t words,” Madam Rose said, walking into the laundry room.
“Technically they are,” I muttered, making her look at me.
“Uhm, I mean—” I tried to explain when she suddenly laughed.
“You know, you’re different from the rest,” Madam Rose said with a smile as she turned off the washing machine.
I hadn’t even realized my clothes were done washing already.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
She turned to look at me, her eyes staring deeply into mine as I shifted uncomfortably under her gaze.
“Never thought a teenage girl would become the triplets’ guardian. Who in the pack would have thought?” Madam Rose said, looking at me as if I had achieved something remarkable.
And I don’t know why they considered me a teenager. I was f*****g eighteen.
“Uh, is that a big deal?” I asked, clearly not buying the whole “being different” thing.
“Well, yes. You see, the triplets are special, and being their guardian makes you special,” Madam Rose explained.
“Bruh, those jerks are in their twenties. Needing a guardian at that age isn’t special; it’s actually embarrassing that they can’t even take care of themselves,” I said, my inner voice turning into outer voice as I gasped and quickly closed my mouth.
I didn’t just say that out loud!
Madam Rose looked stunned for a moment, but her expression soon returned to normal.
“Well, I guess you still have a lot to learn about the triplets,” she said before grabbing some clothes from a basket and walking away, leaving me alone.
I was now in my room, replaying the incident in the laundry room. “What’s wrong with you?” I said out loud while face-palming.
A small knock on my door made me look up, wondering who it was. I got off the bed and walked to the door, opening it.
“You,” I uttered, stunned to see Zev standing in front of me. His eyes looked dark, and his messy hair covered his face.
