Chapter 18Vincent thought on his mother’s words all that night, and all the next day. He had been in the wrong, with Eiji; all pretensions otherwise had been destroyed, and he stood bare and cold in the face of his mistake. All that was left to decide was what, if anything, he could do about it now. But that line of thought, he decided, was for the country, and there was one mistake that he had yet to rectify in town before he could depart.
