Chapter 1
I can't remember neither how or when I got here, I just remember my eyes opening and my body being layed on the ground of that dark room. The dark room, with no windows or forniture. Just my tired body laying there, recently awaked. What do I need to do? How can I get out of this place? I do as my instincts say. Analyse the situation.
My eyes run the room. Black walls, black floor, black ceiling. Everything around me is black. I hear a rusty sound and as I look behind me, there is an open door. I walk up to her and I get out of that room. This place... Somehow, I feel like I've been here before, but when? And how did I got out?
I notice doors. The big hallway where I am now it's full of doors. All of them are black. I can tell something is wrong with this place. This is not safe. Sudenly, the corridor is lighted by a weak white flame. For some reason, I feel trigered. That's when they start. The screams. The crying. They are calling me. Who are they? Why are they calling me? In the midle of the noise, I can hear it. I can hear that name. How do they know my name?
"Jennifer! Help us, Jennifer!" I hear my name within those screams.
Somehow, I feel like I know them, but at same time, I don't. It's so confusing. Theyr voices echo inside my head, inside my brain. It hurts a lot, I can't remember who they are. What if they are in danger? I need to find a way out. I hear footsteps from behind me, that makes me turn to the noise. There is a man, staring at me. He is wearing a black hoodie and a white mask, like the ones the people use in mask parties. There is a smile drawn in the mask. A creepy, fake smile, in what looks like blood.
He starts to walk in my direction and I slowly start walking back. I see an open door, making me automatically run to go inside that room. After I get in, the door imediatelly closes behind, and I can hear that the footsteps continue outside, but I think he didn't noticed I was gone. I look around the room and I see a TV. Static, that's all I can see on that old TV. It looks like snow. After some time looking at the TV, the static is gone and I see the guy that is on the hallway, walking like he is still walking after me, but he is already far from here. Then the screen it's all white.
"Hello, Jennifer. Welcome back to another quest. Are you ready?" I was about to answer with something like "Where in hell am I?", but the voice immediately stoped me "I know you aren't, but you don't really have a choice. In this quest, you will face another one of your biggest fears."
The masked man once again appears on the TV. His face is turned directly to the camera (if there is a camera), and I can feel him looking straight to my soul.
"Yes, child. You know what I'm talking about. You have to face him. The masked man. The follower." The man then disappeared, making me start to panic "But don't worry, the realitys are getting... Quite messed up, lately. It's not like you would understand, after all, you can't remember anything from the outside world, or from the other times you came here. Don't ask questions about the outside world, like you once called it, in your second quest. I mean, you can't remember before finding the missing parts."
I hear a metallic noise. There is a crowbar next to the TV. I pick it and the door opens, making some white light enter the room with a dark shadow of a man. I see him as he starts to run in my direction. I lift the crowbar and hit the masked man right in his head, making him fall down in pain, what gives me time enough to start to run away, sometimes looking back to make sure he is not following me yet.
"Well done, child. You actually did it, again. At least for now. You should wait a minute, so you can start to remember everything." I hear the voice before another door opens and a girl is thrown at my direction.
.
The girl looks my age, but not my real age, the age I am here. We must be six, maybe seven right now, but I'm pretty sure I'm sixteen. I see the fear in her light blue eyes. Her skin is pale, and her hair is long and light brown. She looks like a scared angel.
"Are you ok? Are you hurt?" I ask the girl, trying to calm her down, putting my hand on her face.
"Please, help. I've been hiding for so long! The last time I saw anyone was last year! I'm hungry, I want to wake up! Please, help me!" The girl won't stop screaming and looking everywhere around us.
I take her hand as I see the black dressed man. He is walking with blood coming out of the mask. I start to run with her, we have to escape this cursed place. This is a nightmare, and we need to wake up.
"We need to run. Now!" I said and she starts to run faster. "Listen, we have to face our fears. Mine is that masked guy, I don't know yours, so until we find out, just keep running for your life."
The girl nods and she keep running while I stop to look at the man. I get ready to hit him with the crowbar again, but when I lift it, a boy jumps out of a door. He has long black hair and blue eyes. Wait, isn't he that psycho guy who kill people while they don't fall asleep or something like that? Wow, like, does he even sleep or he has to like, comite self homicide? If you know what I mean, I can see by his face he hasn't been sleeping well in ages.
"Zoe, where are you?" The pale guy calls with a low voice "You know you won't survive another year in this place, accept your fate, kid! You can't keep on making people try to bring you back!"
I start to run until I catch the blue eyed girl. She almost screams when I touch her arm, but I cover her mouth and we both look at a door.
"If we want to get out, we have to die in a specific way. I remember now... This took me ages this time." I open the door and see a well "Exactly... The well. Take my hand, girl who's name I don't know yet." Yes, I'm weird at the point to say something like that.
"Zoe..." The girl says, almost whispering in a way I am the only one that can listen.
"Oh, so you're the one that psycho guy was talking about. You know him or he is just another one of our fears?" I ask when we are ready to jump.
"He is my-" The girl is stoped by a laugh. Is that psycho guy again.
"I found you, little sister!" The guy screams before we jump to the well.
...
I wake up sweating. I'm in my room again. Holy s**t, what the hell was that? There was a girl this time, I think she is the sister of that psycho guy. This doesn't usually happens...
"Honey, come on, time to wake up." I hear my mom, calling me on the kitchen.
"'Coming, mom!" I scream so my mother can hear me downstairs.
I get up from the bed and pick some clothes. Black jeans, a white large t-shirt and a gray hoodie, confortable clothes that won't make everyone around me judge me. I brush my long dark hair with a blue hair lock on the front. Yeah, I kind of have that 2000's Emo hairstyle. But I like it, so it's ok for me. My mom also likes it, so she let me dye my hair the way I want.
"Good morning, honey. How was your night?" My mother asks before away moving my hair to kiss my forehead.
"It was like every other night... But, something changed..." I start to explain. My mother knows about my dreams about that house, about that mansion, about that well.
And about the guys.
"Sit down, tell me, what happened?" My mom sits at the table, waiting for me to tell everything about the last night.
We sit and I explain about the man in the hoodie and about the reality gap, and about the girl I found there, including the fact that that weird psycho guy called her sister.
"Her name is Zoe...? She is the younger sister of that psycho boy, Caleb?" My mother asks, looking lost on her own thoughts. She is not usually like this.
"Yeah, I think so... Why? You know her?" I look right into my mother's eyes. She sighs and holds her phone, writing something before looking at me again.
"Jennifer, I'm going to take you to a place, today you won't go to school." She starts "I already sent a text to you teacher, so there is no problem. Hurry up, we get out in five minutes."
I nod as I continue eating, now faster. This must be something important. My mom don't usually let's me not go to school.
We get in the car and my mother drives to the hospital. My mom talks to some nurses, and they lead us both to a room, where there is a girl, connected to machines. Is she...?
"That is Zoe Fades. She has been in a coma since her older brother tried to kill her, when she was seven. That was nine years ago... We lost track of her brothers and she is in coma since then.- My mother explains.
I walk closer to the girl and I touch her hand. Her eyes suddenly open and she starts breathing fast. She sits and looks me in the eyes. It's her, those are her eyes, her light blue eyes, like a pure ocean.
"It's you... You saved me!" The girl hugs me as she starts to cry "I-I don't even know your name, and you could have died because of me...! I'm so sorry!"
"It's ok, Zoe... Let it all out, I'm with you... You're not alone." I put my hand on her back and she kept on crying on my shoulder.
"Thank you... But sadly, it's not done, yet..." She whispers, so low that only I can hear her voice "They are coming to get us, not only on the castle, also in this reality..."
