23 Day settled himself uncomfortably in a dark corner of the workshop and worked on his laptop until the eyestrain had reached an intolerable level. He closed the laptop, as it was getting late and the glow might be visible from the courtyard. The night was mild, but he was still glad to have the blanket with him, and the pillow went some way towards softening the hard chair in which he was propped. Two in the morning came and went, and there was no sign of an intruder. He moved to the floor and stretched out on some flat-pack cartons, cursing that he hadn’t brought something better to lie on.
