Chapter Twenty-Three-1

2432 Words

Chapter Twenty-Three Jilly's car was a blast to drive and Tommy tried to lose herself in the experience. The car was quick and light through the gears and the suspension was relentless in its ability to hold the pavement. It lacked the raw power of the Corvette, but at speed, it gave a great feeling of confidence. Tommy was headed along River Avenue, watching the lights reflected in the river, the whorls and eddies, the car bowling along effortlessly, the engine thrumming in third gear. She saw the group of men clustered at the corner, under a neon bar sign, “Coor's” and thought nothing of it until she was almost past. But Tommy caught the flip of blonde hair, long strands, swaying. A woman's hair. Beth's hair. She stood on the brakes and just caught the clutch before the engine croaked.
