Zale stood on unsteady legs. The fevered madness in his mind had faded but it hadn"t disappeared completely. If they had misread her letter and she shunned them, he wasn"t sure he could fight the shadows another time. Were they being naïve to hope? He scanned the contents of her crumpled letter again before shoving it into his pocket. His past told him it was foolish to hope things would be okay. He hadn"t seen Nyle"s descent into madness and he hadn"t seen Rose"s desire to leave them. He couldn"t help but draw parallels. He had been too late to save Nyle.
