Maryk stretched his wings and soared in a downward spiral from the cave where he"d left Rose. Safe. Protected. She was with other humans. People she trusted to care for her. Like she"d never trusted him. Being surrounded by the Mannix clan"s treasure was a good place for her. She was more precious than all of it combined.
He glided between the mountains, trying to pump his wings as little as possible. His chest hurt like a devil. Bloody holes dotted the hide over his chest plate. He was lucky the shots hadn"t gone any deeper. And his wings had survived the encounter unscathed. He would survive.
