It’s time to go back to being myself
City A
A night of heavy rain
Lovien dialed her husband Adele’s phone number
The call went through, but there was no answer
In her arms, her daughter had a fever of 40 degrees and was deliriously crying out," Daddy,Daddy, I want Daddy…"
Lovien hurriedly carried her daughter downstairs and said to the maid,Clara Aunt,"Clara Aunt,we’re going to the hospital."
"Should we wait for Mr.Adler to come back?"Clara Aunt asked.
"No need."
Tonight was his indelible’s birthday, and he wasn’t going home.
Lovien’s heart was colder than the rain outside, and his daughter in his arms, both cheeks burning red,let out a low, uncomfortable grunt, but her father was with a third party celebrating her birthday.
In the fast driving to the hospital on the road, torrential rain,Lovien anxious about her daughter’s fever, the gas pedal almost to the bottom, suddenly flashed before the eyes of an overtaking car, Lovien fierce double blinker to remind, the other still straight over.
Lovien jerked the steering wheel to the side, and the front of the car collided with the safety island beside the road.
Clara Aunt, sitting in the backseat, clutched the child tightly and let out a startled cry.
Lovien managed to brake in time, and the front of the car only collided with the small stone pillar, causing minimal impact. However, in that moment, Lovien broke down, tears streaming down her face.
Years of pent-up grievances and sorrow overwhelmed her in that instant.
Seeing the helpless figure sobbing over the steering wheel, Clara Aunt cried out in anguish, “Madam, madam, we still need to rush to the hospital!” Bella's forehead felt even hotter.
Lovien finally remembered her daughter was still running a high fever. She reversed the car and drove toward the hospital.
Upon entering the hospital, Lovien carried her daughter out of the car. When her daughter was unconscious and they were about to prick her finger for a blood test, she struggled and refused to let them do it. Lovien forcibly held her daughter's hand, listening to her heart-wrenching cries, her own heart aching in sympathy.
The infection was viral, and not just one type—her daughter had at least seven types of viral infections in her body. The chest CT scan showed that both lungs were infected and had turned white.
“The child's condition is currently very serious. We recommend performing a lung lavage procedure on the child,” the doctor said solemnly.
Clara Aunt, standing nearby, was startled. “What? Can such a young child undergo a lung lavage?”
Lovien took the lung CT scan from the doctor's hands and studied it carefully. The doctor beside her was somewhat surprised. “Miss, can you understand this?”
Lovien nodded and made a decision, “Doctor, please arrange for the lung lavage surgery after my daughter's fever subsides!”
Clara Aunt couldn't help but ask softly, “Madam, should we discuss this matter with Mr.Adler?”
Lovien gazed at the child in her arms, gently touching her feverishly hot forehead. Her voice was firm. “No need.”
In that moment, she seemed to have finally made a decision.
Three days later.
Lovien sat beside her daughter, who had just undergone a lung wash, watching her pale, bloodless face as she slept. Her phone buzzed with a message: “Anything?”
One simple words, spoken with the arrogance of a superior.
Lovien put down her phone and didn't reply.
Clara Aunt was in the kitchen when her phone rang. She glanced at it and quickly answered, “Hello, sir.”
“Is something wrong at home?”
Clara Aunt hesitated, “No... nothing's wrong, sir. Are you in the country?”
“Yes.”
“Alright, take your time. Everything's fine at home. Don't worry.”
After the call ended, Clara Aunt couldn't help but mutter to herself, “Why won't Madam let me tell the Mr.Adler about what happened these past two days?”
Mr. Adler is right here in the country.
Lovien held her daughter's small hand, and her bloodshot eyes finally closed, but she still couldn't sleep. Then, her daughter seemed to have a nightmare. She stretched out her small hand and waved it, “Daddy, Aunt Crystal, I'm scared, I'm scared...”
Lovien reached out and held her daughter's small hand, “Mom is here.”
Bella woke up in fright. When she opened her eyes and saw Lovien, the little girl turned away in anger, “I don't want Mom, I want Aunt Crystal.”
Lovien held back her tears and gently patted her daughter's back to help her fall back asleep.
On the seventh day, Lovien left the hospital with her child and returned home.
She was finally exhausted.
She asked Clara Aunt to stay with her daughter for a while while she went upstairs to sleep for an hour.
When she woke up and went downstairs, Clara Aunt looked flustered and said, “Madam, you're awake. Mr.Adler came back earlier and took Bella out for dinner.”
Lovien's throat tightened, and she turned around and returned to her room without saying a word.
Downstairs, Clara Aunt sighed. With a husband, why did Madam Lovien have to live such a hard life?
Lovien picked up her phone and dialed her husband Adler's number.
The call connected.
A woman's voice asked cheerfully, “Adler took Bella to the bathroom. Is there something you need?”
Lovien's breath caught in her throat. She bit her lip and hung up the phone.
Lovien closed her eyes. The man she had married against her father's wishes, giving up her education to do so, had ultimately left her defeated and broken.
She remembered on her wedding day, her father had asked her privately, “Will you regret this in the future?”
She had smiled happily and replied, “Dad, don't worry! I won't regret it.”
So she chose to abandon her studies and enter into marriage without hesitation.
Two years ago, Lovien discovered her daughter hiding in her husband's room, secretly calling her husband's indelible Crystal, with whom she had a mother-daughter-like relationship.
It was on the way to the hospital with her daughter that Lovien came to a realization.
She regretted this marriage.
It was time to end it. Marrying a man who didn't love her and trying to maintain the marriage with all her heart was futile.
She wanted to spend the rest of her life loving herself.
Lovien's phone rang. It was a message notification, an email alert.
Lovien got up and went to the study on the third floor, turned on the computer, and opened the email.
The email was sent from the Experimental Department of the Global Top-tier Medical Science University.
Lovien closed her eyes and murmured, “Dad, you were right. Thank you for leaving me a way out.”
In her mind, she heard her father's final words before he passed away: “My daughter must not become a waste of space. You must become my pride. Even if you get married, you must never give up on your studies.”
Six years had passed, and Lovien had persevered. Without anyone knowing, she had completed the path of learning her father had entrusted to her.
