Facing The inevitable

1353 Words
Still wondering how everything happened so fast and still heavily perplexed by the whole situation of her overwhelming forced marriage, Vina walked slowly upstairs to Azura’s room, dreading facing reality “Azura, it’s time for breakfast.” Vina called out unfeelingly as she knocks several times on her sister’s bedroom door to get a response. Vina instantly stiffens as she heard footsteps making their way to the door. “Yes?” Azura answers as she pulled her entryway wide open. She was barely wearing anything, considering that her very thin silk robe was quite translucent and her very skimpy lace nightie was very much see-through. Worse, closely behind nibbling her neck was Vina’s newly rejected boyfriend. Quickly averting her eyes from the insulting scene in front of her. Vina fights her impending tears and ranging thought. “Mom and dad are calling you downstairs for breakfast” she said wanting to spit out the message quickly and rush out of their godforsaken house. “Aren’t you going to stay for breakfast dear sister” Azura asked as she gives a knowing sly smile to her older adopted sibling. Clearly seeing through her tricks, Vina shakes her head despondently then quickly left the very toxic atmosphere. Finally in her room, she could breath and most of all cry. Cry out loud for her already planned marriage to a guy she hardly even knows, for the fact that her her parents don’t seem to even care about her and most of all because of the former love of her life who has chosen to betray her trust who she just lost to the clutches of this insensitive and cruel family. However, Vina suddenly remembered the only real person who treated her as family and truly loved her, her grandpa, has his life hanging on this marriage as well. It was only sensible that sheagree and hope for the best. +++ School was now over and though the workday has finally ended, Vina was dreading her going home. Though it was the same place she had called home for the past years of her life, to her chagrin, it was now a location she wanted to run away from. Making sure her pre-school students had all gone home, Vina slowly packed her things from her desk, hoping to extend her stay at work. She could not deny that she truly wants to avoid confronting anyone about her fast approaching upcoming arranged marriage. It was a relief being in school all day with her mind was completely distracted from the harsh reality that is her life. However, with nothing to occupy her mind, Vina’s troubles would crowd her brain, leaving her helpless and with a heaviness in her heart. She remained sitting in her second-hand Toyota Prius, deciding not to go home yet since she plans to visit her dear grandfather. But after driving to the seniors home and led by a nurse led to his room, sees the elderly man sleeping soundly. Vina didn’t have the heart to wake him up, though. “Let him sleep and when he gets up but I’ve already left, don’t tell him I came over please,” Vina requested while holding back bitter and disappointed tears from cascading down her soft ans smooth cheeks. Although she was feeling lonely and abandoned, Vina didn’t want to put this kind of trouble on a dear old sick man. Admittedly, she loved him too much to do that. The nurse nodded her head in agreement as she left the miserable granddaughter standing insideroom while staring at her grandfather with deep longing. “By the Time you see me again, gramps, I might be married or have already left the country I’m not even sure now because I don’t even know the man I’d be marrying. And the guy I loved hurt me and is sleeping with my sister,” Vina mumbled unhappily then took a long intake of breath so she could continue while she covered her face with her hands.“I just can’t take the betrayal, it’s too much granddad, it’s just too much for me…” The poor, unfortunate lass was so engrossed in her heartrending admissions that she didn’t even realize that her granddad had already woken up, wondering who could be muttering softly in his room. Imagine his surprise when 72-year-old malesaw his beloved grandchild in tears while standing beside his bed. “My dear grandchild, why are you crying? What happened to you?” “Grandad!!!” Vina cries out in joy as she rushedforward to hug him tightly. The lightly tanned female stayed in her grandfather’s embrace, soaking up all the affection she could while making sure her arms aren’t squeezing him too tight. Vina was also afraid to tell her grandpa about her current wretched situation, hence her decision to extend their hug. There was a long silence as they stayed in each others arms, neither one of them wanting to let go. “Can I stay here with you for a while, grandad? I promise I won’t disturb you.” Vina pleads with hope in her light brown eyes Her grandfather was about to answer when anothernurse, a middle-aged one this time, suddenly entered the small bedroom. Obviously, the uniformed lady overheard Vina’s question as she was walking through the well-lighted corridor. “I’m sorry ma’am but you can’t stay here since ourvisiting hours are long over. You have to leave, please,” the nurse stated with a firm tone and a stern gaze in Vina’s direction. “Dearest girl, I’m sorry but it’s not within my powers to grant your request,” the sickly senior soothingly said. “You can come back tomorrow so we can talk some more. And besides it’s already quite late. I don’t want you to drive in this part of the city when it’s dark.” Nodding her head in disappointment and taking a handkerchief from her shoulder bag to wipe her tear-stained face, Vina reluctantly got up and and headed out of the seniors home feeling a little better. After all, she was able to cry her heart out. And even though she has still not told her grandfather the real reason for her sudden emotional outburst, just his concern and affection has effectively calmed and comforted her. Settling back inside her car Abby absentmindedlyreaches for her phone. To her dismay, she sees 30 missed calls from their house landline. Surprised and confused that her so-called family would drop her so many calls, since they’d never cared if she even spent the whole year outside home before. So I wonder why they’re calling me now? . Deciding against calling back, Vina turn’s om her ignition and carefully drove back home to finally find out what they could possibly want from her now. As soon as she drove through their driveway, the blond teacher could already see Azura and their mom standing impatiently in front of the mansion’s massive double-doors. After parking and stepping out of her vehicle, she steeled herself at this not-so-surprising “ambush”… “Where have you been Vina? We have been callingyou,” Azura sweetly asked with a suspicious tone. Vina recognized the her sister’s loaded remark so she decided to just conversing with her, “Please, I’ve had a long day and I’m tired. I would like to go rest now.” “Awww, you’re not having dinner with us?” Once again that sarcastic tone of Azura was getting on the older sibling’s nerves. “No thanks, I already ate on my way home,” Abby lied as she tried to sidestep the two females who was presently standing in her way. “Pity, since you have no choice but to join us,” her adoptive mom icily stated with her spindly arms crossed in front of her slender but ruler-like torso. “Your future groom and his father will be having a meal with us. We were just waiting for you to arrive so we can begin, Vina.” My God, so my future husband and father-in-law are here?
