Mathena and Valerio hung back by the door with the guards while Xeon took a few steps into the bare room, the heels of his shoes sounding on the concrete floor. Despite his approach, Steve only had eyes for Mathena, and they sparked with pure murderous hatred.
Xeon walked into his line of sight, blocking Mathena’s form and forcing Steve to move his gaze to Xeon’s face. He did, slowly. He mentally asked Mathena if she knew that man. Mathena nodded.
