Xeon waited in the recesses of the supernatural police headquarters' prison for Mathena to arrive. Valerio stood near him.
The building was named for the police director who’d had it built on sprawling, headquarters-owned land. The council had decided long ago that supernaturals who harmed others could not be allowed to roam free in human society. First, they posed a threat to the region by calling attention to themselves. Second, humans were ill-equipped to protect themselves against rogues with a will to harm.
The supernatural police had a contingent trained to deal with those who broke the rules; they called them "supernatural hunters." Wayward rogues, demons, or witches were tracked down and killed outright by hunters if they posed an immediate danger to others.
