CHAPTER 14

Princess Alexandria was astounded by what Avalon said. Her mind was asking if she would permit Avalon and if he does how would they do it. While her mind was asking so many questions, Avalon placed his lips on her and she didn’t move a single muscle. The kiss was light and quick because Avalon felt that the Princess wasn’t ready for anything like it. And he was also scared that the Princess would taste so sweet, he would be tempted to bite.

He pulled his lips off hers and waited for some reaction, but there was none. He tried to kiss her again. The Princess didn’t move nor said a single word. He halted and sensitized her movements, and he pulled his lips from hers. As their lips parted the second time, he hugged her tightly and that’s the time she eased and clutched her arms around Avalon.

Their hug was serene and long like a couple who didn’t see each other for a long time, but with respect and decency. Avalon didn’t move his hand around her body. When they parted.

“Do you remember anything about your father in this room?”

“We would always dance in this room. When mother would be busy with her social gatherings, we would just stay here and learn more dances”

“Can I dance with you?”

And she looked at him and stood. He took her hand which she complied and they danced sweetly, tho there wasn’t any music. He hummed as they swayed. They danced and played as they danced, laughing their way. Princess Alexandria has forgotten her present ordeal momentarily. She danced and laughed with Avalon.

After that funny moment together. They went back to the Queen. But this time she wasn’t crying anymore.

“Princess Alexandria, I need to go home now.”

“Will you be back tomorrow?”

“Do you want me to?”

“If it’s fine with you and your schedule.”

“Very well then, shall I come in the morning?”

“You don’t have work?”

“I asked for a vacation to be with you.”

“Can you come in the morning?”

“I will. Do you want anything outside the castle?”

“Mother loves the pastry that you brought the other time.”

“Then, I will bring some more.”

“I will see you again tomorrow.”

“Will you rest and sleep well?”

“I will.”

When Avalon left, there was a little sadness in Princess Alexandria, so she asked the Queen for permission to go to her room and rest.

“Mother, will you be alright? I know you miss father.”

“I will manage. Go and rest now.”

When Princess Alexandria left, the Queen went to the King’s closet and held on his clothes, and sobbed. Behind the strong person is a wife longing to embrace her husband. She tried to embrace all of the King’s clothes, hoping it will return the warmth she gave to it. But realizing that he can no longer reciprocate, she fell on the floor and cried. She didn’t stop crying until she got tired and fell asleep.

The next morning, Avalon came with two bunches of flowers. He gave one to the Queen and the other to his girlfriend, Princess Alexandria. The Queen’s eyes were puffed and everyone can sense that she cried all night. They didn’t say a word but everyone made it a point to give the Queen some space and make things easier for her.

After a light breakfast, the Queen and the Princess prepared themselves for people who are starting to line up outside the castle.

As the viewing opened. The Queen, the Princess, and their entourage lined up to welcome the people. As the people come, there was a time that the Queen’s eyes whelmed with tears. And she excuses herself and hid. Every person in her entourage knew that she cried.

After some time that she was able to compose herself and freshen up, she went out again and welcomed people.

As midday came. The guards stopped the line and told the people that viewing will resume at two in the afternoon. It was the last day for the viewing of the commoners, and their people wanted to see the last glimpse of their great and kind King.

When afternoon came. The Queen did not go out of her room anymore. The Princess was assisted by Avalon and Nanny Leonila at her back. After hours, she went into the castle indoors and went to the Queen to check on her.

“Mother. Are you alright?”

She can hear some sobbing inside. As she went in she saw her mother sitting on the floor beside her bed hugging a pillow.

“Mother, I know you miss father but we will be alright. Please be strong for me. I cannot make it on my own.”

“I am sorry, Alexandria, you saw me like this. I will strive to be stronger for you.”

And they hugged each other, hiving each other the strength they need.

“Rest for now mother. Call me if you need me. I will be out with the people.”

“Who will stay with you?”

“The guards are there, Nanny Leonila is there.”

“Is Avalon with you?”

“Yes, he is.”

“If you change your mind, you can still back out.”

“I’m kinda liking the guy. A kind and sweet guy could make a girl fall, as you said”

“That’s good. I bet your father will be so happy about it. Can we talk about the wedding after finishing with this ordeal!”

“Mother? Can I know the guy first?”

“Yeah, but there is something in him that tells me he is okay.”

“Not now, mother. Please.”

“Okay, I am sorry.”

“I am going now.”

She didn’t tell her mother about the dance and the kiss. But in the back of her mind, she likes the guy. She might even be loving him already.

She went back to the hall where the remains of her father lies. But before she was able to get there, Avalon caught her by the halls took her hand, and walked with her. Princess Alexandria can not repudiate that she felt something while they walked holding hands. It’s a blissful feeling and she intends to cultivate it. Avalon is handsome and when women see him with her they are covetous of her being with him, they tend to forget she is a Princess.

Avalon is so protective of Princess Alexandria and it doesn’t bother him if ladies snatch a look at him. His eyes are for the Princess only. They would look sweetly at each other and there were times that Avalon would hug Princess Alexandria because she would cry.
