CHAPTER 1: Room 314
Maya, a determined and resourceful investigative journalist, has been working undercover for months to expose the notorious drug lord Julian. She received a tip from a high-profile source that the notorious drug baron Julian would be arriving in Los Angeles with his gang to close drug deals with his new clients in an unknown warehouse location. Her mission was to gather evidence of his illicit operation and bring him to justice. She aimed to get the scoop of a lifetime by going undercover. Disguising herself as a high-end escort, Maya booked a room at the five-star luxurious hotel where Billionaire Julian was rumored to be staying. After settling in, Maya made her way to the reception, craving a refreshing drink. But little did she know, the night had other plans. With each sip, her inhibitions slipped away and her senses grew hazy. She had taken a few more drinks than she bargained for. That’s when she sighted him- a mysterious figure, shrouded in intrigue, whose piercing gaze locked onto hers. He was Billionaire Julian, the most notoriously wanted drug baron in Los Angeles. Maya was caught off guard by his irresistible charm and aura. Her thoughts swirled as she tried to make sense of the inexplicable connection she felt towards him. In between Maya's fast-paced moment of vulnerable fantasy. “Hi,” he said in a firm, masculine voice, sending shivers down her spine, as he handed her a glass of champagne. His fingers brushed against hers, which caught Maya’s reply in between her throat as she could feel an undeniable spark of first-sight attraction between them. “Who are you?” Maya asked, her voice barely above a whisper. The stranger's smile hinted at the mystery “Someone you’ll never forget,” he replied, as his eyes narrowed downwards mischievously. As Maya laughed at the stranger’s witty remark, a discreet tap on her shoulder distracted her. She turned to find a waiter, his eyes courteous and inquiring “Another drink, ma’am? Perhaps some whisky?” he asked calmly. Maya surprisingly glanced at her empty champagne glass and bottle; just then, she realized how quickly the evening had wrapped up. She immediately got a hold of her composure and responded calmly, “Oh! Thank you,” she said as she made visible moves to grab her clutch purse to bring her credit card out for payment. A masculine voice interrupted the brief silence between Maya and the waiter who was patiently waiting for her to hand over her credit card for him to confirm her payment. Julian luxuriously pulled his credit card out of his wallet and offered to pay for Maya's drink. “Her bills are on me,” he said with an uncompromising tone. The waiter vanished as silently as he appeared, leaving the two alone once more. As Maya and Julian locked eyes, Maya’s training and instincts faltered. She managed to say “thank you” as she battled with her thoughts on the next line of action. Julian smiled indifferently as he placed the index finger of his right hand on his lips in a motion that signified “say no more”. Maya felt an increasing tension in the atmosphere, for a second, she wished she had supernatural powers to vanish from the picture of Julian's reality. Julian could imagine the series of thoughts running through her mind, so he decided to ease the tension between them. In a flirtatious tone, he asked Maya, “Will you grant me the honor of escorting me to my room”? Maya stood on the spot transfixed as though she was dumb. She couldn't explain the compelling force around Julian. She was in awe of his broad shoulders and chest tapered down to a narrow waist, creating a V-shaped silhouette that exudes masculinity. She perfectly imagined his 6.2-inch height would complement hers, with or without her wearing heels. Julian, on the other hand, was patient enough to lustfully admire his newfound distraction. Maya was 5.8 inches in height with an athletic build that appeared snatched in the black jumpsuit she wore. Her long brown hair rested behind her back with subtle hints of auburn that caught the light. Her eyes were an arresting shade of indigo, she possessed an effortless sense of style that blends feminine elegance with a hint of edginess. “She’s got a strong aura of commanding attention” Julian muttered silently to himself. Maya’s eyes were still bore into his eyes, as if they were searching for secrets or hidden truths. In actuality, she was lost in the world of his physique. Julian decided to rescue Maya from her fantasy. “Shall we?” he asked, his voice low and inviting. Maya nodded in affirmation; just like a robot that had lost its programming configuration, she followed Julian to his hotel room: Room 314. She didn’t notice Julian’s bodyguards, who were trailing them from a distance due to her drunken state. She instantly forgot about her mission and succumbed to the passion and danger that the stranger embodied. It was as if the clock paused for Maya to savor the moment. Her sharp eyes blinked twice and finally closed like an arrested shade of indigo. Her long brown hair cascaded down her back like the waterfall of the night as she lay gently on Julian's bed. The shadow of Julian was cast on the wall. His piercing blue eyes seemed to see through Maya’s vulnerability. He summoned his broad shoulders in the direction of Maya's delicately built athletic figure lying seductively on his bed. The chandelier light blurred around them as they collided in a whirlwind of desire, their secrets and ambitions were momentarily forgotten. They had found a strange solace in each other's arms in the silence of the hotel room. As the night wore on, the shadows of their past and present loomed, threatening to tear them apart, leaving their desires with unpredictable questions. It was 6.00 am, and the rays of the sunlight penetrated through the blinds of the satin curtain in room 314. Maya woke up to a complex emotional landscape as she found herself in the arms of a mysterious man. She didn’t realize where she was, nor the circumstance that led her to the compromising position she found herself in. As she took a brief moment to deeply introspect, she slowly remembered all that had transpired the previous night. Julian was still dreaming and fantasizing about recreating more romantic experiences with Maya; when the loud alarm ringtone of Maya's phone suddenly woke him up. Maya casually looked at the screen of her phone and realized it was about time she reported back to Emilia, her superior at the office. She was now fully self-aware of her vulnerability and to what extent it had led her. As she tried to shake off the feeling of personal disgust, she picked up her black jumpsuit that was helplessly lying on the floor by the bed. She equally reached out for her earrings and four-inch pencil heels; that were lying coldly at another adjacent end of the room and reluctantly wore them. As she walked soberly towards the exit of room 314, Julian beckoned on her to stay, but Maya retorted in a high-pitched tone, "There is no second time! Because it never happened." Julian lustfully stared at Maya and repeatedly smacked his lips as he whispered to Maya in a flirtatious tone, “I know you can't get over me, don't be hard on yourself cause it's mutual”. Julian stood with a wide open arm posture and his gaze heavily fixed on Maya's back view, expecting she would run back to him. He was perplexed by a glimpse of self-denial, as he watched Maya instantly open and banged the exit door. For the first time in his entire flirtatious adventure with random women, he felt slight pains of outright rejection. As Maya made her way for her hotel room, she noticed some men guarding the door of Julian’s room; she wondered if they had been around the previous night as she was too tipsy to have paid attention to their presence the previous night. She shook off the thought as all of that was insignificant, compared to the state of feeling bitter and torn apart. Maya's heart skipped a beat as she battled with her pacing thoughts; her wedding to Alex, the presidential aspirant, was in two months. Her professional integrity was on the line and her emotional state was a mess at the moment. The luxury of self-pity and regrets was no longer on Maya's side as she had to exit the hotel to report back to Emilia at the office. Maya proceeded to check out of the hotel, after packing her luggage. She headed for the car park where she had parked her car the previous night when she checked into the hotel. From a distance, she pressed the remote of her car to open the booth. As she walked towards the back of her car, she felt the heaviness of her emotions transfer to her legs and she slumped instantly. ***** Emilia's voice broke through Maya's thoughts. "Hey, Maya. How are you feeling?" Maya tried to sit up, but a sharp pain shot through her neck. "What...what happened?" “Maya, I am proud of you,” Emilia said. Maya cut her words short by asking Emilia how she got to a hospital bed. Emilia, running her hands through Maya's hair, replied to Maya's question calmly, “Passion led you here”. Maya's mind raced. Maya was trying to make sense of Emilia's words when she suddenly had a flashback of the incident in Room 314. She needed to process the events of the previous night and figure out her next move. But first, she had to convince Emilia that she was okay and that her mission turned out well, just as planned. Maya couldn't help but wonder if Emilia's perspective of “passion led you here” revolved around the Room 314 incident. She decided to share a fabricated tale of how the undercover mission turned out, just to confirm her suspicion of Emilia’s statement. Just as Maya was about to share a fabricated tale about her mission, a tall masculine figure interrupted her narrative, entering Maya's private ward. Emilia raised an eyebrow, turning towards the anonymous visitor.
