Chapter 2

Adrian "Well, that went well.", Adrian murmured. He put the car in gear and headed back towards the pack. "I can't believe she treated me that way! Granted, I didn't think I would get a red carpet welcome, but I definitely did not expect that!" Bill exclaimed. Adrian turned to look at his pack member. William Carmichael had not always been a pack member. He found his mate who was a member of the Black Mountain Pack. Cindy was a wonderful she-wolf and an asset to the pack. Her mate? Not as much. Bill likes to do the least amount of work necessary to get his job done. He mentioned an estranged daughter but he made it seem as if her mom kept her from him. "Bill, I am sensing that you have not been completely honest with me. Please, tell me how you became estranged from your daughter." I said. Adrian knew that this was partly his fault. He had been busy with pack business and hadn't done his due diligence on Bill's daughter. He would have to rectify that after he got back to the packhouse. "Her mom and I were having problems. Olivia was gifted and she wanted to send her to a really expensive school. Cassidy suggested that we both take a second job to make it possible. I didn't want to take another job. The one I had was hard enough. I told her that Olivia would just have to continue to go to the public school. Cassidy didn't like that and threw me out. A few days later, I ran into Cindy and that was that. I tried keeping in touch, but Cassidy wouldn't let me see her." Bill was starting to sweat. Adrian looked at his pack member while he was telling his story and could tell that Bill was lying about the second part of the story. "Bill, I came here to help you reconnect with your daughter and encourage her to come to the pack. She will start getting her werewolf genes as soon as she turns 17. She has a year to prepare for the shift. Heck, she could tell who her mate is as of tomorrow. I assume she has no idea what is about to happen to her." "She has no idea Alpha. Her mom was human. Maybe, she won't even be a wolf." Bill said, looking at his Alpha hopefully. His hope was dashed when Adrian began shaking his head. "Werewolf offspring are always werewolves. The gene is too powerful. There is no way she won't get her wolf." "Damn." Bill sighed. "What else do you know about your daughter?" "She is super smart. Has her own business. She owns boutiques all over the US. She owns the Sassy stores." "Your daughter owns Sassy. Jesus. Not even 17 yet, and a major player in the business world." Adrian was shocked that this young woman was such a business dynamo. "Yeah, it would be nice if she could share some of the wealth with her family." Bill muttered. Adrian's head whipped around to stare at him. He was furious. "This is what you wanted my help for? You want money from her? Are you kidding me Bill?" Adrian could even feel his wolf's anger at this pack member. He didn't want his daughter. He wanted control of her money! "Well, with her mom gone, I assumed she would need an adult to oversee things. You know? I could be that person." Bill responded, not realizing how pissed Adrian's wolf was. Adrian drove the rest of the way in silence, as he seethed in anger. He pulled up in front of the packhouse and got out of the car. He began to walk to the door when he heard Bill's name being called. He turned and watched as Cindy ran up to her mate. "How did it go?" Cindy asked. Adrian watched and waited for Bill's response. He didn't understand how a sweet she-wolf like Cindy had ended up mated to someone like Bill. The Moon Goddess must have had a reason, but Adrian could not tell what that reason was for the life of him. "She threw us out! The ungratefulness she showed after we had driven to see her. House full of people and she was just plain rude." Bill said, hoping to get sympathy from his mate. "Cindy!" Adrian called. "Yes Alpha?" Cindy turned from her mate to look at Adrian. "Did you know the reason that Bill wanted to go see Olivia?" "She is a minor. He went to bring her back with him. I made up a room for her and everything. She needs introducing to the werewolf way of life soon. " Cindy replied. "So, you didn't know that he was after her money?" Adrian asked. "Money? Did her mom leave her money? Well, we can handle that. Can you set up a trust for her Alpha?" "Cindy. She is a genius. Graduated early. She is emancipated. She owns her own business and your mate was hoping to cash in on it." "No. Alpha, you have to have gotten that wrong. Bill, tell the Alpha that he is wrong." "Honey, we could have really used some financial help. She could still come here and have all of that too. You know, the room and stuff." "William Jackson Carmichael! I don't know who you are!" Cindy said as she turned to walk off. Adrian turned around and walked into the packhouse leaving Bill standing in the middle of the driveway. "Hey Alpha!" Mick yelled. Michael "Mick" Brady was Adrian's Beta, or second in command. He was in charge while Adrian was away from the pack. "Welcome back! How did it go?" "It was horrible. Let's head to my office so I can update you." "Whoa." Mick said after I had finished explaining what happened. "You never did like the man. I didn't either, but now it is a whole new level of disgust. Amazing girl though. Are you going to leave her alone or try and get her to come here anyway?" "I am not going to force her, obviously. But I feel it is my duty to explain the situation to her. She needs to prepare for the change. She turns 17 tomorrow. She has no idea she is a werewolf and she has no idea what this will mean for her life. She only has a year and that is if she doesn't shift early." "Do you think she will?" Mick asked. "It is possible. We can't rule it out. I just need to figure out a way to speak with her again. Our last conversation did not end on a good note at all." "I may have some news that will help you a bit with that." Mick said. "Oh yeah? I will take all the help I can get. Lay it on me." "Maggie got the signed contracts for all of the stores that are going into the new shopping center in town." Mick said. Maggie was his sister and in charge of finding stores to fill the new shopping center that the pack had just built. "Sassy is one of the stores that has been contracted." "That just may work." Adrian mused.
