Dominic sat on the desk in his room, watching as the rain fell in torrents. The sound of thunder which was quickly followed by the flash of lightening let him know that the rain wasn't going to ease up anytime soon.
He felt some sort of camaraderie with the weather because he felt like it reflected exactly how he felt; dark and gloomy.
He was starting to get tired of being in Caldea. He wanted to go back to The Caribbeans or another one of his usual vacation spots. He wanted to get back to his life as Will not as Prince Dominic.
He didn't know how that was going to be possible though, considering the princess. He didn't think he could stay here for the rest of the three months.
He loved his kingdom but he was always under a lot of pressure whenever he was here. Pressure to be the perfect prince from his parents and himself.
He was in the mood to party but that would have to wait for a while. He decided that if he couldn't party, he'd at least get something to drink.
He changed out of his pajamas into more something more suitable and made his way to the royal bar.
When he got there, he found the last person he expected to see sitting on a bar stool, downing a shot.
“Lex", he called just to be sure even though he could probably recognize her from millions.
She turned to look at him. “Hello Dominic", she greeted then turned back.
He didn't realize it but a small smile graced his lips. He quickly went to join her and he grabbed a seat on the stool beside her.
“Fancy seeing you here", he said as he sat. He thought she was an odd sight. She was the only one in here other than the bartender and himself and she looked like she wasn't supposed to be here.
She looked like the poster child for good girl with her long curly hair that she had braided into two pigtails, her horn-rimmed glasses that made her look like a nerd which he didn't doubt that she was. She was even dressed in mickey mouse sweat pants and a matching blouse.
He would have found it hard to believe that she was even 21 if not for her body that was filled with generous curves. She was like a human hourglass.
She had childlike angelic features though. He found it to be an amazing contrast with her body.
“Tonight felt like the perfect night for a drink", she replied without looking at him.
Dominic called for the bartender who came out immediately. “What'll it be your highness?" he asked.
“Uh... the usual", Dominic replied. The bartender nodded and went to get the drink. He came back not long later.
“I have to admit Lex, I'm surprised to see you here. You didn't strike me as the kind of girl who drinks", Dominic started.
“Well there's a lot of things you don't know about me", she answered.
Dominic pursed his lips. “That's true. So why don't you help me out".
She finally raised up her head from her glass. “Help you out with what?"
“The things I don't know about you", he answered, taking a sip out of his drink.
“Not interested", Alexa said, also taking a sip from her drink.
Dominic couldn't help but feel like there was something off with her. He knew she wasn't exactly always warm to him but tonight was different.
He couldn't place his finger on it but he knew something was wrong with her. That thought was confirmed when she called the bartender and just asked him to refill her glass but changed her mind and asked him to bring the whole bottle.
He didn't exactly know much about her but he could tell she wasn't one that could easily hold her liquor and he figured she must have been trying to get herself drunk.
“Lex, are you okay?" he asked tentatively.
“Why would you ask that? Because I'm not in the mood to tell you about myself? Listen Dominic, we're not friends and we probably never will be. We both agree that the three months are merely a formality and we don't actually have to get to know each other", she said harshly.
Ouch, Dominic thought. Something was definitely up with her. He just didn't know what. He watched her drink straight from the bottle and his eyes widened. She was definitely trying to get herself drunk.
Just as she was about to bring the bottle to her lips, he reached out and took it from her.
“Hey", she yelled, glaring at him.
“I think you need to slow down", he said.
“Who are you? My brother?" she asked, folding her arms across her chest. He had to keep himself from laughing at how adorable that was.
“Listen Alexa, just tell me what's wrong, maybe I can help".
“How?" she cried, “how could you possibly help me with something that's your fault?"
There were tears streaming down her face and he was honestly shocked at her reaction.
“I should go", she continued. Just as she was about to stand up, Dominic grabbed her hand.
“Wait", he said, “tell me what I did wrong. Tell me what happened so I can make it better. I want to help".
“You can't fix this", she said quietly sobbing, “you can't".
“Try me".
Alexa took one hard look at him. He sounded sincere, like he really cared about what was making her cry. She didn't know whether to believe him though. He could be a really good actor for all she knew.
The look in his eyes however, told her that he cared and he wasn't just pretending.
Alexa sighed. “It's Edward", she began. She noticed the look of confusion on his face and it hit her drunk brain that he had no idea who Edward was.
“Edward's my boyfriend", she explained, “or at least he was. He was the best thing that ever happened to me but now he hates me".
Dominic was confused as to how anyone could actually hate her. He didn't know much about her but he couldn't imagine ever hating her for any reason.
“Why do you think he hates you?" he asked slowly.
“Because of this stupid royal arrangement. When I told him about it, he got so angry with me. I had never seen him that angry before. I tried to explain to him that it wasn't my idea and that I wasn't going to go through with it. I tried to tell him that I was just going to be away for three months as a formality but he wouldn't listen to me. It's been weeks and he's completely ghosted me ever since. He's not answering my calls, he's not replying my texts and I don't even know what to do. And it hurts so much that he's ignoring me that I decided to come and drink my pain away".
Dominic was speechless after she had told him her story. He felt bad for her. Whoever this Edward person was, he obviously meant a lot to her.
It made more sense to him now why she had always been so cold to him. She must have blamed him for the troubles in her relationship. He wished there was something he could do to help.
“I'm sorry Lex. I had no idea", he started.
“Of course you didn't", she scoffed, “you know what, just forget about it. There's nothing you can do about it".
She wasn't looking at him. She was staring angrily at something invisible in front of her. She had stopped sobbing but he could still see the tears on her face.
He didn't know how she'd react to what he was about to do but he decided he'd take his chances.
He gently took one of her hands and turned her to face him.
“Look Alexa, I had no idea about your boyfriend and I'm sorry about what happened between both of you but if Edward cares about you as much as you care about him, he's going to come around. Because it's literally impossible to stay angry at someone who means the world to you. It may take a while but I doubt anyone can stay angry with you for a long time so just give it some more time. I'm sure things will turn around for the better soon".
Dominic closed his speech with a smile on his face. To his surprise, Alexa returned the smile. She brought her hand to her face to wipe the tears on her face. She took off her glasses and for the first time, he got a clear glimpse of her gorgeous blue eyes.
He did a double take. He had seen blue eyes before on lots of people but he had never seen eyes as blue as hers before. He felt like he was looking into the depths of the bluest ocean.
He had known she had blue eyes but he was just seeing how blue they were.
Not for the first time in relation to her, there was only one word that came into his mind ; Beautiful.
“Thanks Dominic. You're right", she said.
“I usually am", he teased.
She rolled her eyes but he could see the small smile playing on her lips.
“And I'm sorry. I shouldn't have blamed you for my relationship problems. You had no idea about Edward and this arrangement was sprung up on you as much as it was on me. I guess it just helped to blame you".
“It's cool". He bumped his shoulder with hers and she raised an eyebrow at him with a playful smirk on her lips.
“Oh did I tell you that you have the prettiest pair of blue eyes I've ever seen?" he asked and just like that whatever bubble that had wrapped itself around them suddenly popped.
The smile on Alexa's face dropped and she put on her glasses back. She cleared her throat before mumbling out a quick thanks.
Dominic almost face palmed. He hated that he had just ruined the mood with his compliment. Why couldn't he just keep it to himself? They hadn't gotten that close yet.
She looked like she was about to stand up but he grabbed her hand just in time.
“You don't have to leave. You can stay and we can share a drink together but responsibly", he said hoping she'd agree.
Alexa thought it over. She could go back to her room and mope alone or she could possibly stay here and have a laugh with him. She decided that the latter sounded more appealing.
“Fine", she agreed. They called the waiter and asked him to bring a new bottle for them.
“So, I now know that you have a boyfriend named Edward, what else don't I know about you?" Dominic asked after taking a sip from his drink.
She paused to think about that. “Hmm, well you already know that I kick your butt at horseback riding".
Dominic laughed aloud at that. “You've got jokes. Very funny".
She shrugged then took a sip from her drink, keeping her eyes on his.
“Okay well, I read a lot like I read everything", she said.
“Yeah I kinda figured that out considering you've spent most of your time here in the library. I always knew you were some kinda nerd".
She punched his shoulder at that and they both laughed it up.
They spent the rest of the night laughing, drinking and getting to know each other that both their woes had been forgotten.
They didn't even realize how late it was until the bartender came to call it in for the night. Dominic checked his phone and realized it was 1am.
He was surprised. He had never spent that much time talking to a girl. Usually, after the first hour, they got naked.
For the first time ever, he spent hours talking to a girl and he felt completely comfortable and at ease. He didn't even get bored once.
Alexa for her part, had never had a conversation that long with anyone except Courtney. She found it surprising that she could have something to talk about with this playboy prince who was definitely the complete opposite of herself.
She found him to be funny and charming, coupled with his looks, she could see why the girls fell for him easily. He had managed to make her get over her pain and she wasn't even 100% drunk.
They decided it would be weird to stay in the bar after the bartender left so he offered to walk her to her room and to her surprise as well as his, she agreed.
“This was fun", Dominic said to her once to her door.
“It was", she agreed with a smile on her face.
“We should do this again sometime".
“I'll think about it", she teased.
Dominic rolled his eyes at her, a smirk playing on his lips.
“Goodnight Dominic. Thank you for tonight".
“No Lex, thank you. Goodnight".
He bowed a little and left. He went to his room and flopped on to his bed, a smile playing on his face at how the day at turned out.
A/N: So I know a lot of you are probably tired with my inconsistency in posting but I've got a good excuse. My exams are starting really soon and I've been studying.
I really appreciate your patience with me. I have over 200 follows on a book with less than 10 chapters and inconsistent updates. I'm really grateful for that and I'm so thankful for the trust y'all placed in me.
I promise that once I'm done with my exams, we're going to get down to business on this. Thank you everyone once again.
