Alexa sat on the bed in the room that had been assigned to her when she got here. She had her phone in hand and she stared at it wistfully. She had been leaving texts for Edward, her boyfriend, but he hadn't replied to any of them. She missed him and she wished he'd show her that he missed her too. She had told him about her predicament a while before she came here, hoping that he'd understand that it wasn't her choice. She tried to explain to him how much she hated the situation as much as he did not Edward wasn't listening. In fact, she had never seen him so upset before over everything. He was always so nice and so polite to her in the past that she was sure he'd understand if she explained it to him. The problem was that he didn't even want to listen to her. He basically exploded after she mentioned that she was going to have to marry someone else. His reaction actually scared her but she hoped he'd calm down eventually. It was getting to two weeks since she told him but he still hadn't spoken to her. She had called, and left him millions of texts but he had completely ignored her. She didn't know what to do. Her brother had told her to forget about him. He said he always believed she was too good for her anyway. Of course, she ignored him. She always knew her brother didn't approve of Edward but she wished he'd at least be more supportive. She looked at her phone again and after a brief moment of hesitation, she sent him another text. She watched her phone like a hawk for the next thirty minutes. When his reply didn't come in, she decided she'd give up for now and try again later. She stood up and left the room. She had gotten used to the castle here. Everyone had been nice to her since she got here and she had been doing a great job of avoiding the prince. She hung out with his siblings a lot. She loved his sister and she thought his brother was cute. Sometimes she wondered how he was related to them because they seemed so responsible whereas he screamed the exact opposite. If there wasn't a striking resemblance between the whole family, she would have been convinced that Dominic was adopted. She was just glad he was staying out of her way. He annoyed her without even trying. She couldn't wait for their three months to be up so they could get out of each other's hair. She left the room and went in the direction of the stables, she felt like a ride. When she got there, she heard giggling from inside. She figured it'd be Derek. She noticed that he spent quite a lot of time there. She walked in and stopped at the sight. It wasn't Derek. It was Dominic laughing it up with a woman she didn't recognize. Dominic looked like he had just come back from a ride himself. The two of them stopped to stare at her when she walked in and she had never felt more embarrassed about anything in her life. The three of them stared at each other in awkward silence. Alexa figured that there was something going on between the two of them. They seemed really close and chummy when she walked in. She briefly wondered if the woman was one of his flings. “Lex", Dominic finally said, turning to smirk at her. At once, her embarrassment turned to annoyance. She really hated that nickname he gave her and he knew it too, which was why he kept using it. “Dominic", she replied curtly. “You must be Princess Alexa", the woman said turning to smile at her. Her smile was so infectious that Alexa couldn't help but smile back. “Yeah I am and you are?" she asked kindly. The woman came forward. “My name is Blair. It's a pleasure to meet you. I've heard so much about you", she said curtseying before her. “Its nice to meet you too", Alexa replied. “So Lex, what brings you here?" Dominic asked, the arrogance oozing off of him. She was going to ignore him. Just like she always had. “I came to ride. I actually thought I'd meet Derek here", she answered simply. “Derek isn't home. He went to visit some friends", Dominic said. She nodded then headed to a horse box. “Well okay. I'll be on my way now". “Woah woah woah, are you going to ride out on your own?" he asked. She stopped on her tracks then turned to look at him with a raised brow. “Excuse me?" she asked. “Well since Derek isn't here to ride with you, you might wanna go with a guard or something, in case something goes wrong". “I don't understand. What could possibly go wrong? I'm just riding a horse not flying a plane?" “Yeah but horseback riding isn't exactly the easiest thing in the world". Alexa's eyes widened at his last remark. Did he just say that to her? She noticed Blair at the corner of the room trying to stifle her smile but it wasn't working because she already noticed it. “Are you suggesting that I don't know how to ride a horse?" she asked very calmly. If Dominic had known her well, he'd know not to be deceived by the calm of her voice. “No, I didn't say that. I'm just saying. Riding isn't child's play". “And do I look like a damn child?" Alexa yelled. It was now the turn of Dominic's eyes to widen. He had never heard the princess curse before. In fact, she didn't look like the type that did. “Well no but–" “But nothing", she said cutting him off. Dominic could see the fury swimming in her eyes. He figured that if he didn't shut up soon, she'd have his head but for some reason, he wanted to egg her on. He wanted to know how far she'd go. He knew she couldn't really do anything. She looked down right adorable even with the death glare she had on. She reminded him of an angry kitten or a dog that was all bark and no bite. Pretty cute. “Look princess, how about I come with you, to make sure everything is fine", he said. “What you should do is stay away from me if you want to make sure you remain fine", she countered. At that, Blair couldn't hold back her laughter and it was as if the two royals in the room finally remembered her presence because they both kept quiet to turn to her. Blair's cheeks turned a light shade of pink from being embarrassed at being caught eavesdropping. “I'll go set up a horse for you", she said meekly and left. “Why are you so mad anyway? I'm just trying to help", Dominic said. He was having way too much fun with this. “Bold of you to assume that I need help". He was impressed. Alexa was standing her ground. He didn't know anyone that would still be arguing with him. Most women jumped at the opportunity of spending time with him and he was used to them being damsels in distress when he was around. This was a refreshing change. “Fine you don't need help but I'm still going to come with you. Just in case". If looks could kill, he'd be six feet under by now with the way she was glaring daggers at him. Just then, Blair walked back in with Alexa's horse in tow. She handed it to her. Dominic was about to offer his help to Alexa in mounting it but she proved that she didn't need it. She mounted it like a pro in a matter of seconds. She must have noticed the look of surprise on his face because she rolled her eyes. “Don't leave your mouth open, you might catch flies", she sassed. He promptly closed his mouth. “I don't have a problem with you tagging along with me but try to keep up", she continued just before she rode out. He didn't even realize that he was staring after her with an impressed look on his face until Blair elbowed him. “And you told me that you weren't in the least bit interested in her", she said with a smirk. Dominic shrugged but couldn't say anything because he knew she was right. Blair was his sister's personal assistant but she was also a good friend of his. She was the one girl, that didn't buy into his whole bad boy persona because she knew his insecurities. He trusted her and basically told her everything. She was his right hand person, right after James. She was also the one he came to on the very few occasions he needed advice on girls. “I'm not interested in her. She's just really fun to mess with. Now where is my horse? I need to catch up with her". “You can get him ready yourself. I don't have to help you", Blair said. Dominic rolled his eyes but ignored her. He went, took his horse, thankful that he hadn't taken off the saddle yet then he mounted it and rode after her. He got outside and was surprised to see how far she had gotten. He had to admit, when he first suggested having someone ride with her, it wasn't because he was trying to make her mad, that was just a bonus, it was because he was genuinely worried. He didn't think she was the horseback riding type. She didn't look like the type that could mount a horse, let alone ride one. He couldn't have been more wrong though. She was riding like a boss. He sped up so he could catch up to her. He could see the look on her face drop at his presence. He pretended like that didn't just bruise his ego. “So it looks like you can actually ride", he teased. “It does... Isn't it wonderful?" she replied. He could hear the sarcasm dripping from her voice. “Hey, how about a race?" she continued. “What?" he asked. “A race. If I beat you, which I will, you're going to have to apologise for all those stuff you said back at the stables and then you'll leave me alone", she said sounding pretty confident. “And what do I get if I win?" he inquired. She shrugged. “Anything you want". He considered it. There wasn't much he wanted from her. He however couldn't pass up the chance to rile her up again. Her reactions were priceless. “Fine. If I win, you get to come to a party with me". He figured that parties weren't her scene and it would be fun to see her in a place outside of her comfort zone. “What? No", she disagreed. He shrugged. “It was your idea to race Princess and you did say I could choose whatever I wanted". She knew he had her there. “Fine", she answered. He laughed. He didn't expect her to agree to this. “Are you sure Lex, I'm a really good rider". “Good. Then you shouldn't have a problem keeping up". He smiled. She really was adorable and he would never ever admit this but he actually found her confidence sexy. “You really wanna do this, don't you?" he asked. “Sure. Unless you're too scared of being beaten by a girl". He laughed out loud at that. “Please, I've been riding since I was fifteen", he said proudly. “That's nice. I've been riding since I was six. On your marks...". “Get ready... Go". And they were off. Dominic considered letting her win, just so he could be a gentleman but he saw the look of seriousness on her face and remembered how funny it would be with her in a party. He also had enough motivation to win. They were neck in neck for most of the race. Dominic was impressed. He didn't know she was that good. He actually didn't know anyone who could compete with him in horse riding. He was the best and he was yet to meet someone who was a match for him, until now that is. Alexa on her own part, was also impressed with. She always thought of him as an arrogant airhead who just thought he was better than he actually was. He was actually good but she was better and she was going to win. She couldn't imagine him winning and then she having to come to a party with him. She hated parties. The loud music, the heaps of people making out, the smell of puke and booze, the crowds of sweaty people gyrating against each other, that just wasn't her scene. She wasn't surprised that it'd be Dominic's though. He looked like the type of guy you'd catch in a room, pants down with a girl on your way to the bathroom, the kind that would still continuing getting it on, not minding that they've been caught. With that thought in her mind, she propelled her horse to go faster and with just an inch, she and her horse crossed the designated finished line first. She sat atop her horse, a proud and victorious smile sitting comfortably on her face. “Well, let's hear it", she told the prince as he crossed the finished line. He smirked at her. “I'm sorry I underestimated you and suggested you needed help with your riding. You're obviously a pro and if I'm being honest, I'd love a few lessons". She smiled, content with his apology. “Apology accepted Dominic. But I'm going to have to decline on the lessons. That would involve spending extra time with you and I'd take a hard pass on that". “Ouch", he said placing his hand on his chest, “you wound me princess". “I'm sure there's a royal doctor who can fix you up. You'll be fine. Now if you'll excuse me, I have the rest of my day to spend without you and I'm wasting it here talking to you", she said as she rode off with Dominic staring after her, a lingering smile on his face.
