When Kiara entered the exquisite living room of her mother's duplex, she exclaimed, "Mom, I am home!"
"Kiara, you are back!" An old woman said. She was Kiara's grandmother, Nana Collins.
Kiara let go of her black box of clothes in the living room and rushed to hug her grandmother.
"Mama! Do you miss me?" Kiara asked, her voice sweet, and her grandmother smiled.
Nana wore a red sweatshirt, a black flared skirt, and a pair of black slippers.
She had just finished having her lunch with the help of the maid when she heard Kiara's voice.
"I missed you, Kiara. How was your study? Did you pass?" Nana asked, after Kiara pulled away from the hug and went to pick up her box.
Nana was a 64-year-old woman.
Kiara smiled and replied, "Of course, grandmother. I did. Where's Mom? Isn't she at home? Although, I told Mom I wasn't coming back. But I happen to change my mind."
As Kiara reached for her box, her face turned sad as she recalled all that has happened between her and Bryan.
Kiara didn't want to talk about it. And she believes that coming back home will help her to heal.
"Your mother is not yet at home. Wendy had new clients, and she has to go to the company today even as it's Sunday. But she will be home on time. I have told Wendy to work less. She is not getting any younger, and she cannot satisfy everyone," Nana said, moving to the black couch in the living room to have her seat.
Kiara sighed and replied, "I understand, Nana. I believe Mom has her reasons for working so much. How about Aunty Rebeca and her daughter, Shirley?"
Nana smiled and said, "They went out too."
Nana had a sad smile on her face, but Kiara didn't want to press on it.
Nana was not happy because two of her daughters had returned home from their husbands' houses after a divorce. Nana wished that they would find another husband, but her daughters were comfortable living a single life. She can only pray that Kiara did not end up like her mother, Wendy.
Wendy refused to forgive her husband after he cheated on her, and it had been a long time since they divorced. Up to 16 years now.
Nana sadly shook her head, and Kiara asked her, "Nana, is anything wrong?"
Smiling sadly, Nana peered at Kiara's cute face and replied, "It's nothing, Kiara. How about your father? Did he call you?"
Kiara frowned as she didn't want to think of her father. He didn't care about her as he had a new family. What matters to her is to rest and not think of any man who doesn't want her.
"Nana, Dad did not call me. And I didn't call him too. Although he said that if I need money, I could come to see him, and you know that he base in the west. I didn't want to ask him for anything or run into his new family. It's best I focus on Mom," Kiara's expression was stern, and Nana sighed.
"It's fine. You must be tired after traveling so long. Go in and rest," Nana quickly dismissed Kiara.
Kiara smiled and went back upstairs to her room. She was relieved that she didn't meet her mother at home, as she was not ready to face her mother.
Her mother was ready to searched her body, as she has warned her to stay away from boys. Kiara did not know how to face her mother, and she hoped to get another pill to flush out whatever Bryan might have discharged in her womb.
After keeping her box, Kiara went to have a cool bath before she got out of the bathroom and went to dress up in a green sweatshirt and black skirt.
After dressing up in her room, Kiara moved to the mirror to examine her reflection. Due to her fair skin, traces of the hickey that Bryan left on her neck were still visible.
Kiara sighed and wore a black scarf around her neck. Her father was a Muslim, but Kiara was a Christian and lived with her mother.
Walking out of the room, Nana looked at Kiara in shock as she made her way downstairs to the living room.
"Kiara, what are you wearing?" Nana asked as she had already sent the housemaid to warm the food and prepare lunch for Kiara.
"Nana, the weather is cold. So I want to stay wrapped up," Kiara lied, feeling guilty that she was lying to her grandmother.
Nana was also wearing a sweater, so she smiled and said, "That's fine. Go and have your dinner. I already called Wendy and told her that you are back. She will soon be home."
"Okay, Nana," Kiara offered a stiff smile at her grandmother before she made her way to the dining room to have her meal.
Once Kiara said down, she waited for the maid to serve her meal. Her mother was rich, so she had domestic servants.
As soon as the meal arrived, Kiara ate fast and finally rose to return her plate to the kitchen before she retired to her room.
Once Kiara was out of the kitchen, Nana looked at Kiara in shock.
"Kiara, have you finished your meal? That was so fast? Was it enough or should I get your extra?" Nana asked, her voice laced with concern.
Kiara swiftly replied, "I am okay, Nana. I want to go and rest."
"Alright, go and rest. It is a long journey from the west to the north. So go and have a good sleep. We will chat later," Nana smiled while Kiara nodded and went back to her room on the top floor to rest.
Once Kiara got into her room, she found her phone ringing and saw missed calls from her mother and Mary.
Kiara hastily answered her mother's call, "Hello, Mom."
"Kiara, I heard you are at home. What happened?" Wendy asked in a sharp voice.
Kiara gulped hard and swiftly replied, "Mom, I just decided to come home for the holiday."
"Mmm. Alright. I will soon be at home. I had a foreign client who came over today for a specific design of a diamond necklace, and I cannot say no to her request. That was why I went to the company. I will be at home soon, alright?"
"Alright, Mom. I will be expecting you. I want to have a nap," Kiara said, and her mother agreed before the call ended.
However, Kiara called Mary back to find out why she had called.
"Hello, Kiara. Have you gotten home?" Mary asked, as soon as the call connected.
"Yeah. I am at home now," Kiara replied with a calm voice, and Mary said, "Alright. Enjoy your holiday. We will be chatting online."
"Okay," Kiara said, as she was tired. As soon as the call ended, Kiara plopped down on her bed and fell asleep.
