Chapter 1
First Year After-party;
Kiara Collins, a 19-year-old woman, was not only anxious but scared as her best friend, Mary Thompson, offered her a glass of alcohol to drink at the luxury five-star hotel.
"Come on, Kiara, have a drink! You need to get out of your shell!" Mary yelled. She wore a blue bodycon dress and black shoes as she partied with Kiara and several of their first-year classmates at the luxury five-star hotel where they chose to celebrate their freshman year after-graduation party.
Kiara was nervous. She wore a brown loose-fitting dress and black shoes. She had beautiful fair skin, big blue eyes, and lengthy blonde hair.
Kiara possessed an ethereal beauty, but she was too shy, mainly because she grew up in the North and was raised by her grandma.
"I do not drink alcohol, Mary. I do not want to do anything silly tonight," Kiara said, as she watched the other young women in the event room drinking and dancing excitedly with boys.
Kiara was chubby and from a decent background. She was raised in a God-fearing home by her maternal grandmother.
Alcohol was not something that Kiara had ever tasted. But having to attend a private university in Ashland capital, where most of the elite children from rich families were present, they partied and drank to celebrate the end of their first year.
"If you do not want to drink with me, it's fine. I will find someone too. But you need to chill and get out of your shell. You are 19 years old and no more a kid. Get a good life, Kiara," Mary said, before moving to find other colleagues from their department.
Kiara sighed. She knew that she had disappointed Mary. She held her phone and tried to distract her brain. If it wasn't that every student in their department had agreed to attend this graduating party, Kiara wouldn't have wasted her time attending it.
When Kiara got lost in her phone, trying to distract herself from the noise in the event hall, where many of her colleagues were partying, dancing, and celebrating, she heard a deep voice from behind her.
"Care for a drink?"
Kiara was stunned as the voice did not only sound deep and alluring.
Kiara felt a jolt in her heart, like it skipped a beat when she heard that voice. She turned to see who was standing behind her, and there she saw him: Bryan Anderson, a rich guy who every lady on campus wanted.
Bryan was from the well-known Anderson family that controlled many businesses in Ashland.
"Hey, why are you zoning out, looking at me like that?" Bryan asked, not liking how Kiara was standing there and staring at him like a dummy.
His friends wanted to party and play with the ladies, but Bryan was not interested.
He was a first year student too, because he moved away from the North and back to the West to take over his family business. Thus, he had to study business management instead of pursuing his dreams in art, so Bryan was slightly irritated.
Every lady on campus crushed on Bryan, but he did not like that. He was rich, and many people treated him with respect; hence, he did not welcome any woman crushing on him.
"I am sorry. What did you ask me first?" Kiara asked Bryan, and he was taken aback by her soft voice.
"I asked you if you cared to drink?" Bryan asked, slightly irritated.
Kiara instantly fell for Bryan's handsome face. His full brows, and thin lips. She felt like pulling him closer and sealing her lips on his.
*How can he be this handsome? Why is my heart beating so loudly in my chest?* Kiara thought as she saw Bryan frown.
She did not know his name, but when she saw his frowning face, she immediately called him back, "Yes, I can drink. Let me drink with you."
Bryan turned to look at Kiara's face. He did not know her name, but seeing that she was admiring him, he did not like it. She was chubby and had pretty doll eyes, as her eyes were crystal clear and blue.
Bryan took a full glance at the dress Kiara wore. It was a loose-fitting brown dress despite her chubby size.
Bryan sighed and walked back to the bar to meet Kiara.
"Where are you from? Did you grow up in Ashland too?" He asked as he gulped his drink and offered his glass to the bartender to refill.
Kiara, who was standing beside the bar and contemplating asking for a bottle of coke, shook her head and replied, "I grew up in the North."
"Where?" Bryan's eyes lit up as he wanted to know where Kiara lived and grew up.
"Come and join me. Let's find somewhere to sit and discuss," Bryan said. He wore the latest brand of yellow shirt and deep blue trousers and a pair of white canvas shoes.
Kiara's heart was beating so loudly in her chest. She remembered her mother's warning before she entered college. Her mother warned her to stay away from boys, especially rich guys, but at this moment, Kiara wanted to be an adult, so she followed Bryan.
They found a table, while Bryan's friends looked at him in shock.
"Bryan, what are you doing with this fatty?" His best friend, Mike George, asked. Mike was 22, and Bryan was 24.
Bryan's gaze darkened as he felt Mike was too childish. Most of Bryan's classmates were young people, mostly 18 to 20 years old, so they avoided him, knowing his father is a billionaire.
"Stay away from me, Mike, if you have nothing good to say," Bryan shot his friend an icy glare, and Mike smiled.
"That's fine. I won't disturb you both," Mike quickly slipped away from the table to excuse Kiara and Bryan, while many other ladies from afar looked at Kiara and Bryan, who sat at the VIP table and drinking silently.
"Mary, isn't that your best friend, Kiara? I thought that she said that she doesn't drink. Some girls can pretend," Amanda Wilson asked Mary with a stern voice. She was secretly rooting to catch Bryan's attention at the party.
Mary was stunned because she was dancing, before Amanda pulled her back with force to take a look at Kiara.
"Oh no! How did Kiara end up sitting beside Bryan and also drinking with him?" Mary asked, with a look of surprise on her face.
"I should have known your best friend is a slùt. Not only did she pretend to wear oversized clothes, but she knows the trick to date with the richest guy in our set. But I am telling you that Bryan is mine, so you better warn your fat friend to keep her distance away," Amanda yelled, and Mary looked at her in shock.
"How am I the one who told Kiara to hook up with Bryan? This is clear slander, Amanda. And if you want to get Bryan's attention, you are free to try your luck with him. Why blame it on me or Kiara?" Mary replied to Amanda with a cold voice.
Amanda Wilson was from a top-tier family in Ashland too. Studying in Ashland private university was very pricey, and only the rich children could get in there.
"Did you dare to talk back at me?" Amanda walked to meet Mary, ready for a fight.
"So what if I did? Are you going to beat me up!" Mary raised her voice back at Amanda, ready for a fight as she was not afraid of who Amanda's father was.
Amanda did not want to create a bad reputation for herself, especially when there were many students in the event hall. She glared at Mary and said, "You won't get away with this."
Amanda walked away, while Mary looked at the table where Kiara was sitting with Bryan before. To her shock, they were no longer there.
"Where did they go?" Mary asked, her eyes widening in shock. The event hall was too noisy, and so Mary quickly rushed to meet the security man standing beside the door to ask for her best friend.
