I immediately hung up the call and pushed him away. “Just get out, you are invading my privacy. You even tried—“ I wasn’t able to finish what I’m about to say when he speaks. “Tried what?” I chuckled. “Seriously?” I ask sarcastically. “You almost kissed me!” “And?” I raised both my eyebrows. “What do you mean by and, huh?” His gaze never left mine. The room fell into a heavy silence, broken only when he finally spoke. “Whatever, go and have a goodnight.” He walks out and closes the door. I was left dumbfounded. . Morning has come and I am walking in the hallways. When I arrived at the room, I saw Lacrus sitting at his desk, waiting for students to come. Our eyes locked for a moment and immediately looked away to avoid him. “Princess!” Gab shouts and hugs me tightly. “Guess what, I have something to tell you.” His eyes were smiling, I could see it! “Let me guess, new girl?” He chuckled and both of us sat in our respective seats. “How did you know that?” I rolled my eyes. It’s so obvious. “We’ve been friends for years already, Gab. You think I still don’t know you?” As I spoke those words, I could feel someone was watching us. I know it was him. “Yeah, we’ve been friends for years and you still haven’t fallen for me?” My eyebrows raised for a moment. “It was a joke, silly!” I knew I wasn’t imagining things. His eyes never left us as Gab and I talked, lingering just a little too long to be dismissed as coincidence. It was the same look he’d worn since last night, right after Gab had quietly said, “I miss you.” I frowned. What on earth was his problem? Class was finally over. Since I didn’t have any more classes for the day, I decided to head home. I wanted to get some rest first before spending the rest of the afternoon at a café. While I was waiting for Calix to pick me up, I saw his car stopped in front of me. He rolled his window and looked at me. “Calix is busy, he can’t pick you up,” he speaks as he looks at me. I look around first before responding. “I thought you don’t want anyone to see us here?” I ask. “This is not the car I drove as a professor. Hop on or I’ll leave you here,” he replied. I turned to look at the car, and he was right. He usually drove his red car to campus, but this time, he had shown up in his black one. I don’t have a choice but to hop on since he was the one who said it, Calix won’t be able to pick me up. He was just driving silently while I was on my phone, scrolling through social media. After a few minutes he broke the silence. “There’s a private yacht party tomorrow evening, and we’re both expected to attend. Word of our engagement has already made its way through the circles of the country’s wealthiest families. We’ll be shopping tonight.” My eyes widened in shock. I have been at parties since father would always include me but to meet those people as his wife? What should I do? It’s a lot of pressure! “You don’t need to speak with them if you are not comfortable, you can just stand on my side. I’ll do the talking,” he speaks once again. I look at him. “But I will try,” I murmured. He looks back at me and smiles. “Anyway, I’m sorry for what happened last night. It was just—“ he stops talking. Maybe he doesn't know what to say. “It’s fine,” I responded. “Are you hungry?” “Kind of.” “What do you want to eat?” “Anything that is nice to eat, a fast food restaurant is enough.” His forehead wrinkled. “Are you sure? I can buy anything.” “Yeah, I dislike eating in fancy restaurants. It has been my dream to eat it since I was a kid.” Although my father was able to adopt me, I don’t have any courage to speak what I want. Whatever he gives, I always thank him for it. “Alright.” After a few more minutes we went to a drive thru and he really gave me what I wanted which made me so happy. I could see my ears flapping as I eat the food he bought for me. “You eat like a kid.” “It’s better than acting like a kid.” He raised his left eyebrow. “Are you trying to say that I act like a kid?” “What? No. I didn’t say that.” I take one more bite and finish before asking. “What’s your reason for picking me instead of my sister, anyway? She is more mature and beautiful than me. Wealthy men like you need that face card.” He froze for a moment, like he was thinking of something. “Do I really need to explain the reason why?” “Yeah, that is why I am asking.” “Maybe because you’re too easy to bully.”I nearly choked on the bite I had just taken. What the hell was that supposed to mean? “Are you trying to start a fight?” He smirks and looks at me. “No, I’m just answering your question.” “That was an ugly and petty reason.” “You’re the ugliest one here, Elsie.” “Oh really? You want me—“ I wasn’t able to finish my words when he suddenly kissed me which made my eyes widened. What the hell. That was random!
