Where there is Death there is new life
“I won't allow you to leave me." He whimpered clinging to his beloved's wrists as she lay bleeding in the grass. They both were getting drenched by the rain, lightning danced across the sky followed by a loud clap of thunder, his typical wet wolf smell comforting her last breaths. "I love you, you know that right?" She asked him with a bright and cheerful but pained smile "Mary..... You cannot die... Please... don't leave me...." He growled at her in his sorrow through gritted teeth. Mary smiled a bit more, fingers clutching at the fur on his face as she slowly sat up to kiss his cold wet nose. "I love you,Stephan. You've brought joy to my darkness. I never thought I would be lucky enough to find someone like you and here you are. You've saved me more times than I can count and now it was finally my turn to save you." The life slowly faded from her eyes a smile gently played across her face, and her grip on him released. Stephan quickly caught the back of her head with his paw and gently laid her upon the grass. Inaudible sounds and whimpers passed through his clenched teeth as he lay himself over her to shield her body from the rain. Salty tears mixing with the water from the sky landed as droplets on her pale face. "You can still save her you know..." A strange voice called out to him through the downpour. His head lifted and his ears twitched, looking around for where the voice came from. Desperate to save his human companion. "How?! Tell me! Show me! Please!... Bring her back!" As if the shadow itself was responding, a black form slowly rose from the ground behind him. Sloshing sounds of wet grass being the only way it made its presence known to him. "Do you truly want her back? If so you must act quickly and bite her. The venom which runs through your veins will then coarse through hers and she will be saved.." The shadow man replied to Stephan’s pleas with a smile in his hoarse set of demonic undertones. Eyes wide with surprise and rage, he turned his head to stare at the figure which loomed above them out of the corner of his eye. “I didn't wish to turn her... I wanted her to remain delicate and mortal..." He almost snarled at the mysterious being. "Then she will remain dead. It's ultimately your choice to bring her back." He turned to stare at her once again. Panicked, he lifted her limp body into his arms and cradled her for a moment. "I am so sorry I could not protect you, my night orchid… I am so sorry I didn't realize your feelings or my feelings until you fearlessly protected me..." He whispered through a heart wrenching sob into the mangled mess of her hair. "So you will allow this travesty to have no justice then? You will allow the hunters to win?" The shadow man asked the wolf angrily. Stephan turned to glare at the tall shadow man "I will avenge her, but I cannot break my promise to keep her human... No matter how much she begged me to make her one of my pack. I just.... can't. She was too precious for me to allow her to join the armata strigoi." Angrily Victor came from the left. Stephan stared up at his Alpha desperate for answers. "You mean to tell me that this woman has been asking you to become one of us and you denied her?" Victor snarled in his anger. "She could be saved and now you refuse to do so?" The tinier Francis asked from behind Victor's’ massive wolf form. Matthew came from what seemed like nowhere and pushed his brother out of the way and after lifting the woman's limp right appendage sunk his teeth into the flesh of her arm, then glared angrily at Stephan.. "After all she has done for you…. For US as a pack. You DARE deny her this right? She has done more than enough to earn her place among us Stephan. Your selfish pride of wanting to keep her human sickens me." Matthew growled. Victor looked around all of a sudden curious and confused "Where did that man go?" “What man?” Francis asked curiously “The shadowy one… The reaper..” Victor replied looking and turning every which way to see where he could have run off to. Francis was very confused but decided he would try and comfort Stephan. He slowly made his way over to where he and his deceased human companion now sat in a huddled wet mess. Her lifeless body in his lap, her head pressed against the fur of his chest. As suddenly as it started the rain stopped. The clouds dispersed revealing the red moon. Francis stared at the human woman intently, something was happening. What was that sound? Was it her heart? Her eyes opened wide, they were no longer their beautiful blue. They were a sinister bright purple. “… wait.. Purple? Why are they purple?” Francis asked aloud to no one in particular Suddenly she gasped for air. Pushing and clawing at Stehpan to get away. “Mary?” Stephan asked confused “Oh my God! Mary!” He finally exclaimed “Release her before she hurts herself and you!” Victor said pulling the two apart and pulling Stephan away from the newborn wolf, if he established contact with her, the others would feel her thoughts as well. “Easy now little one. You're going to be in a lot of pain shortly.. so allow us to comfort you as you comforted us during our first moons.” “P-pain?” She asked confused and afraid. Suddenly her eyes widened and she dropped to her knees in white hot agony. Stephan went to rush to her side to comfort her but with all her thrashing, Victor held out an arm to stop him. Stephan snarled at him in defiance. “No.. she was human once. Shes a lot stronger than a blood wolf.. She's going to possibly hurt you too.” Screams and squelches of blood gurgling in her throat made the others recoil in horror. Steam rose from her skin which was turning bright red. The twisting and crunching and breaking of bones made poor Francis run to vomit behind a tree with sobbing grief. After about ten minutes she was finally done. Mary rose to her hind quarters, her fur was stained but she was all white. A rarity amongst werewolves both human and wolf born. Purple eyes took in their surroundings. ‘What the actual f**k just happened?’ She thought to herself. Every smell imaginable flooded her senses. Sour, from poor Francis. Sweet, from the alpha, Victor. Musty from the others, and lovingly familiar from Stephan.. her Stephan... She had no idea who she was or where she was or what was going on. Afraid of everything she bared her teeth. That was his chance. Victor lunged at the white beauty and pinned her down then pressed his cold wet nose to hers to establish mental telepathy with her. He released her and quickly backed away to let her run. He could find her no matter where she went now, so long as she stayed in animal form. Her pain and panic flooded his mind, disorienting him momentarily. Stephan gave chase. “ugh! Stop him! Someone stop him! She's dangerous to all of us at this point! She could kill him!” Victor shouted Matthew ran after his brother and Roel.. Poor Roel stood there confused. He had no idea what was going on. He was just glad Mary was alive again. She had always been so kind to the pack bringing them food, giving them shelter in her own home after the last hunter raid and she even took a silver knife to the chest for Stephan.. Then died.. and now she's back and the more he thinks about it the more he's confused. Now...For some reason... He kept hearing his name... “ROEL!” Victor bellowed finally fed up with calling him He snapped out of his trance “huh?” “Go after them Roel!” “Oh! Right! I'm on it!... Wait.. What am I on?” “I honestly think you're on drugs… now go after your pack while I help Francis!” Roel nodded then started running the opposite direction “Roel…..” “Yes?” “They went the other way, Roel… towards the lake…” “Oh right! Thanks!” Victor shook his head and comforted Francis as he continued to vomit and cry “What's wrong?” Victor asked him worried, paternal instincts kicking in, wanting to care for his youngest pack member “Mary made us such a nice meal and now it's all gone…” he whined Meanwhile Mary is on all fours running as fast as she can to God knows where for God knows why. All she knew was running. She couldn't stop. Didn't want to stop. She felt… free… “Mary!” Stephan called out to her desperately. She was so fast. Too fast… he couldn't catch up. She got so far ahead that she was out in the fields now heading towards the lake. Like she was being called out that way. When he came out of the trees he saw her amongst other white wolves. Almost all of them are female with either green or purple eyes. He stopped. Who were these wolves? Their fur was as white as newly fallen snow. The biggest of them.. The Alpha female, it looked like, had a brown patch in the shape of a heart on her right shoulder. Mary, whose form was just as large.. if not larger huddled close to the one with the patch like she was with her mother, but the other couldn't have been older…. Matthew ran smack into the back of his brother and they both fell, Roel tripped on the brothers and landed face first. “Oh look. Females.” Roel announced, staring at the pack of whites “They're all white too.” “You're an i***t Roel…” Stephan grumbled. Victor slowly emerged from the tree line with Francis in tow. Francis screeched and ran towards the pack of white wolves “Mary!” Francis yelled frantically “Where are you my sister?!” Slowly she came out from amongst the others to greet her brother warily. He was the kindest among them and she would never forget that gentle face. “F-Francis…” Mary sputtered Suddenly the large Alpha female charged him. Victor was there before she was, teeth bared growls and spitting snarls coming from them both, ears flat against their heads. Protectively, Mary ushered Francis away who was very confused, but happy to have his pack sister back. “Sister. You are all white but your fur is going to get matted if you don't rinse off the blood. Come, come let's get you clean.” Francis said, petting his sister's head. The other white wolves surrounded them, Francis tucked his larger sister underneath him as best he could protectively and snarled. The others were right on top of the other females there, Stephan desperately trying to push through everyone to get to Mary. “M-Mary! Where are you? Mary!” He called out frantically. Victor and the Alpha female were head to head snarling until Victor recognized her smell. “Nat…Natalie??” he asked, backing off. His ears perking up having recognized his dear friend “Victor?” The other wolf replied curiously Tails slowly began to sway, friends now recognized “When did you become a werewolf?” Victor asked confused “Last year, I was attacked by a wolf I didn't recognize. So were the others. I've been protecting them and I call the new ones to me so I can watch over them as they come into their senses. Like Mary. She's been dead. All of us have been partly dead. That's why we have white fur.” Natalie explained Victor nodded while pondering this curiosity “This explains why she ran. Why she has purple eyes and why she is unawares of her surroundings.” He said aloud. The females backed away from Francis when the males backed off them. The green eyed whites had no interest in the goings on of the chaos. They just laid lazily in the grass. Natalie looked at the white male group and sighed “Lazy sods… Harold. Come here for a moment please.” Natalie called out With a huff a rather large white male rose to all fours and stretched out each limb slowly before trotting over to his alpha female “Yes?” He asked, yawning sleepily. He was powerful and he knew it so he could be as lazy as he pleased. Natalie glared at him “Are you kidding?” “No?...” “That's not a question you can reply with another question to… go see if Francis and Mary are alright and see to it that Mary is cleaned up.. Also, If you try anything perverse… I will kill you…” Harold scoffed grumpily and swatted at her with his tail before trotting off to go check up on Francis and Mary. Stephan was so confused. He couldn't understand what was going on. He glanced over at Roel… his face said it all. He was just as confused if not more confused than Stephan.. Victor was catching up with Natalie. Trying to figure out who could have done this to so many innocents. Mary was slowly regaining her memories. There was immense pain behind those purple eyes of hers. Stephan and Mary locked glances and he slowly started to close the distance between them. He was desperate to be with her. To hold her and pet her and tell her she would be okay.. But she wouldn't be okay. She was this broken thing now.. And he could do nothing to help her. The human woman he loved so much.. Had suffered because of him and he would possibly never forgive himself for it. Mary couldn't take her eyes off of him. She pushed past Harold and Francis and Matthew to be as close to Stephan as possible. When they were but inches apart… all they could do was stare at one another. Carefully, Stephan placed a paw upon her furry cheek “Are you alright my Night Orchid?” He asked her sweetly “are you in pain?” Mary smiled and leaned her face into his touch “I am in agony but I’m getting used to it now. I’m happy you’re okay.”
