Chapter 3

Kaila's Pov

My head felt very heavy. I tried to open my eyes, but I couldn't; I let out a semi-silent groan, and finally, my eyelids flicked open.

The warm beams of sun rays seeped on my skin as the window blinds blew open and close again, they were controlled by the wind. It suddenly hit me, where was I?.

My mouth tasted ashy and my skin felt dry. Where could this be? Who brought me here? Why? When?.

I didn't notice the drip that was injected in my arm until I tried to sit up, seeing it now brought a new wave of pain to my head.

"Woah, slow down!" I looked up to the strange voice that came from the door, he casually removed the stethoscope on his neck, still moving towards me, and a warm but confused smile gradually appeared on his lips.

"Where am I?" Slipped out of my mouth, enhancing the metallic taste I tried to ignore before.

"I need you to lay back down" He casually suggested, he was so calm, a stark contrast to how I was feeling.

"I need to check your vitals" His demeanour was an easy mixture of surprise and calmness.

It made me scared. "Where am I? How did I get here? What have you......".

"When did she wake up?" A deeper baritone voice came from the door.

I was confused at first and easily hid the fear I felt, but now seeing that I was in an unfamiliar place with two mature men, released all the fear.

"Prince kael, she just woke up, and I was just about to check her vitals", The one who seemed to be the doctor responded, taking a step back from me but towards the 'prince'.

"No! Tell me where I am?" Fear sometimes came with audacity, I suddenly felt sweaty.

"Calm down" He walked closer to me, his eyes indifferent, the concern in his eyes didn't match his voice.

Slowly but carefully he took a good look at me, his deep blue eyes not missing any part of my body, there was so much precision.

"Who are you?" Both of them were calm and I wanted to be calm too, just share in their comfort.

"Make sure she's okay before you lead her back to the border" He turned to leave, completely ignoring my question, only now did I notice the slanted scar that ran across his left jaw.

The scar was fresh and could be called an injury.

"Okay, my prince" The doctor bowed, and the prince walked out.

I wanted to run out with him, or through the windows, but I didn't have enough strength, now, I was at the mercy of the doctor.

"Please tell me where I am" I begged.

He smiled, "Well, you stepped on a wolfsbane, the prince found you and brought you here" His words were calm, and my breathing relaxed.

"Since when?" Still not satisfied.

"You've been here for three days" He picked up my hand and injected some liquid through the cannula.

"You'll be fine" There was something so soothing about the way he spoke. "By the way, I'm Dennis, and I'm a doctor from the........".

"Dennis, please. I need to return home now!" I didn't have the patience to exchange words with him, he seemed like the chatty type.

"Now?" He asked surprised.

"Yes now!" I answered quickly.

"The thing is.....".

"Please! Now!" It was an appeal but it sounded like a command, "Please, I'm so grateful for everything you and your prince have done for me for the past three days, but please, I need to return home" I could feel tears swell up in my eyes.

"And by home you mean?".

"The Darkstone pack" I watched him scratch his head, unsure of the next response to give me.

"Look, you just woke up, you've not eaten anything, and I don't think........".

"Dennis please!" I screamed, "Please, just drop me at the borders like the prince suggested, or you can.....".

"It's fine" He interrupted, "I can see you're not comfortable here and I can't force you to stay, but you have to go to the hospital immediately I take you to your pack" He gave in, but the displeasure in his face was glaring.

"I promise" I sniffled.

"Stand up, I'll get my car keys".

**At the Darkstone pack**

"Three days! You were here one minute, and the next, you're gone! And now you expect me to believe that you've been in the woods with a doctor, that nobody knows, for three days!" My father's voice echoed through the walls of my room.

"Dad, I stepped on a wolfsbane and.......".

"Stop it Kaila! Stop it! Do you know how worried we've been?" My mother easily switched from crying to yelling.

"You could have been kidn*pped! Or even worse killed!" Never in my twenty-one years on earth has my father ever yelled at me like this.

"Kaila, we were worried" My little sister Kendall wouldn't stop crying.

"Everyone I'm fine!", I wasn't, I had a terrible headache and my back was hurting badly, but I had to say what I had to say. My heart was still aching from the rejection.

There was a moment of silence. It last for an awkward time. I lifted my eyes for the first time since they started yelling, and noticed my father urging my mother to say something.

"What is it?" I couldn't help but ask, what could be so heavy for their lips.

"This isn't the time my precious child, get some rest and we'll talk tomorrow" my mother wiped her eyes.

"I think it's best we tell her now" It scared me how his voice had reduced so much.

"Tell me what?" My heart picked up an unhealthy pace. What could it be?.

There was another brief conversation with eyes only, before my mother cleared her throat to speak "Well".

The air suddenly became tense, there was no more sounds of sobbing, just loud and stinging silence.

"If it's about Jacobs rejection, I'd rather talk about it tomorrow" I stung myself by bringing it up again and easing their stress.

"You're getting married Kaila" My mother's words dropped like a bomb, fast and heavy.

"Huh?" I turned to her confused, "Who? Why? How?".

"It's an order from above that we cannot disobey, I would have fought this if I could but we do not have the luxury of choosing" His words had too much weight, he too struggled to carry it.

"It's not a decision you have to make, it's an order you have to obey" Rash and short, I didn't see his eyes before he walked out of my room.

"What?" I asked again, still confused.

My mother lowered herself on my bed. "In two days, you will be married to the Prince Kael of the Astro pack, and you will rule by his side as Luna".
