“You know how to act, right?” Thea looked pointedly at me.
Here we go again…
“Act like a nice shy girl even if I’m planning Archer’s murder in my head.” I grinned at her.
Even though I’ve heard and repeated the same mantra about a hundred times already, it couldn’t bring my excitement down. Not today.
“You can never kill me, Sweetheart.” Archer smirked at me, looking up from his phone.
Ugh!
I almost forgot that he was here too.
“I can virtually murder you.” I informed him.
“But you won’t.” Lucas gave me a pouted look from the seat in the front.
“I won’t. Not in front of other people anyway.” I smiled happily, making Archer huff and roll his eyes.
Well, at least we all know one thing now, I’ll know all of Archer’s secrets now.
I wonder if that makes me a target…
Anyways, I was feeling too giddy to be normal at the moment. I almost felt like a little kid.
A kid in a candy shop!
We were going to the headquarters and I was super excited to finally see the main base and meet everyone that I’ve spent the last few days stalking on the internet.
This is so exciting!
Thea had even taken me back to my house to help me pack my clothes, shoes and everything I needed. She told me that I had to be in my element there. Be at my best possible behaviour and ready to prove my worth.
Well, nothing says that I’m worth a million dollars better than fancy clothes and my high heels!
Well that and confidence…
And let’s not forget my pearls!
They’re the key to my confidence!
I did pack them, right?
“When are we gonna get there?” I asked.
“We just got in the car like five minutes ago, Mia.” Oliver replied from next to me.
So?
“And you guys told me that it wasn’t far away.” I dead-panned.
“It’s a thirty minute drive. We’re going to be there in thirty minutes.” Thea sighed.
Gah!
He’s such a dumb nut! If the drive is thirty minute long and we’ve been on the road for five minutes, then how can we still have thirty minutes to go?
Idiot!
“What am I supposed to do until then?” I asked them. “I’m bored already.” I huffed.
“Why don’t you plan Archer’s murder?” Lucas joked.
That sounds kinda doable…
“While he plans the next date you two will be going on.” Thea laughed.
Eww!
So, Thea is basically convinced that Archer wants to date me. Suffice to say that now I am basically convinced that after murdering so many people, she has finally lost her hold on her own sanity.
“Focus your attention on the road, Thea.” Archer huffed, rolling his eyes.
“Guys! This is supposed to be a fun car ride! Why are we all arguing?” Oliver spoke up.
“Because, dear Ollie, we are adults. And arguing is part of our job.” I told him in a matter-of-fact tone.
“You’re barely an adult, Ms. Rich brat.” Thea remarked, glancing at me through the rear-view mirror.
“I’m not a rich brat! I’m a rich b***h!” I rolled my eyes. “If you’re going to insult someone, at least use the right terminology, Thea.” I scolded her.
“I never wanna grow up.” Oliver mumbled to himself.
“You are going to grow up, Ollie. And you will be just as messed up as we are, if not more.” Lucas chuckled.
“You? Messed up?” Thea scoffed. “Please! You still sleep with a night light!” She chuckled.
“Hey! A lot of people are afraid of the dark!” Lucas defended himself.
“And how many of those people do you think are a part of the mafia?” I questioned, smirking at him.
“You guys are the worst! You are real bullies!” Lucas grumbled.
“I wore that title with pride for the last four years, buddy.” I sighed.
“I thought it was ‘queen bee’.” Oliver frowned, turning to me with a raised eyebrow.
“The queen bee or the queen b***h is the bully of the school. How don’t you know that?” I frowned at the only person I found who was more naïve than Lucas.
“I was home-schooled.” He shrugged.
“We all were.” Lucas added.
“What?!” I exclaimed.
“What do you think? That we went to some special school for mafia members?” Thea joked.
“But why?” I asked, looking at Archer.
“I don’t think that normal schools teach you how to be anything that will keep you alive in the real world.” Archer stated.
“Excuse me but I live in the real world.” I replied in an offended tone.
“And you almost died when you entered that club where I found you.” Archer remarked.
“That was me being stupid.” I huffed, crossing my arms. “There are people who make it in the real world even after attending normal schools.” I informed them.
“Well, our jobs require us to be a bit more.” Thea shrugged.
“And we do go to college if we need to or if we want to.” Lucas reported. “I did. Archer did too.” He added.
“Archer has a degree in business and Lucas studied computer science.” Thea informed me.
I turned to Archer with a raised eyebrow.
“I need to take over my father’s company after him. I’m a businessman to the world that doesn’t know about the existence of the mafia.” He smirked.
Impressive…
But I’m still not complimenting him. His ego is too big already.
“Why did you not go to college?” I asked Thea.
“Because there was no college that could teach me the art of being an assassin.” Thea shrugged.
“Are you planning on going to college, buddy?” I asked Oliver.
“I don’t know.” He sighed.
That’s understandable…
“Wow. You guys really are dedicated to your work.” I noted.
“And you have to be dedicated too, Mia. Once you’re in the mafia, you can never get out.” Lucas warned me.
“Surprisingly, I think that I’m okay with that.” I smiled to myself.
“I’m not.” Archer commented. “I will still kill you if you ever try to betray us.” He told me.
“Gee! Thanks for such trust! I feel like a part of the family, Arch.” I smiled at him sarcastically.
“Arch?” Thea’s eyebrows went up.
“Aww! Archie’s got a nickname!” Lucas cooed, turning to face his cousin with a smirk.
“Shut the f**k up before I put a bullet in your head, Luke.” Archer glared at him.
“He wasn’t the one to call you by a nickname, boss.” Thea spoke up.
“Technically, he was. He called him Archie.” Oliver pointed out.
“Shut up, Oliver!” Lucas grumbled.
Oliver looked down with a sad frown.
He’s such a baby!
“Coming back to Mia’s nickname for our dearest boss.” Thea spoke up. “When did it happen?” She grinned through the rear-view mirror.
Archer just glared at the back of her head before turning to look out the window. I sighed, deciding to answer the question myself.
“He told me not to call him by that nickname so I naturally decided to do that anyway to annoy him.” I shrugged.
“Giving nicknames is kinda personal, girl. Do you like the boss?” Thea smirked.
“I seriously feel like the secretary crushing on her CEO boss here.” I commented. “And I don’t even like my boss in reality!” I added when I realised what I just said.
“True. No one can actually love him until they see his bank balance.” Lucas commented.
“Mia could’ve seen that, couldn’t she? I mean, she is a hacker.” Thea glanced at her brother.
Ugh!
No! Eww!
But I have seen Archer’s bank balance…
And I still can’t get over my hatred for his bossiness!
“Money doesn’t really attract me. I’m a rich bitch.” I pretended to fan myself with my hand.
“True.” Thea sighed.
“I bet you’d love Tony then!” Lucas exclaimed. “He’s my best friend and he works with me in the IT section. He’s awesome!” Lucas grinned, turning back to look at me.
“She won’t. She’s still under observation, Lucas.” Archer grumbled, still looking out the window.
“Does this Tony guy have abs?” I asked, choosing to ignore Archer’s mean words.
To be perfectly honest, Archer kinda reminds me of what I used to be like in high school. Mean and bossy. And that just makes me hate him more.
Oh! Pardon me! I don’t hate him. I just super strongly dislike him.
He’s a real pain in the ass!
“He works out. Shirtless. He’s hot.” Thea told me.
“And he’s my best friend.” Lucas spoke through gritted teeth, glaring at his sister.
“That’s the only turn-off about him.” Thea glanced at her brother. “A huge turn-off.” She sighed.
“I guess I’ll have to meet this Tony person then.” I thought to myself.
“You will meet him soon.” Lucas beamed.
“She might not.” Archer spoke up, still facing the window. “She’d be working under observation in my office.” He said, turning to me.
“What? Why?” Lucas was angry.
“Because I still don’t trust her enough to let her mingle with everyone.” Archer said simply.
“But you trust me enough to let me join your mafia group?” I scoffed.
“Archer, don’t be so ridiculous! You can trust her now!” Thea tried to reason.
“She’s never done anything to make you doubt her. She’s cool, Archer.” Lucas said.
“She didn’t even try to run or call for help either.” Oliver pointed out. “I think we can trust her, boss.” He added.
“Besides, she’s been working so flawlessly for the past couple of weeks.” Thea remarked.
“And I can’t even believe that I am saying this but she’s actually better than me!” Lucas sighed. “She would be really good for our team, man!” He added.
“I’m so likeable here! I don’t even know why I didn’t meet you guys sooner.” I placed my hands on my heart.
And being the awesome people that my new friends were, they ignored me, giving Archer pleading looks, making me roll my eyes and turn to look out the window.
Archer would never be okay with me. He hates me.
No! He strongly dislikes me.
Stupid idiotic stubborn piece of intolerable ass!
“Okay. Fine!” Archer gave in. “She can work with the others.” He caved.
What?!
“You’re the best, cuz!” Thea winked.
“You’re awesome! I can kiss you for this!” Lucas said happily.
“I’d rather you don’t.” Archer made a face.
“He’d rather that Mia kiss him.” Thea smirked.
Not this again!
This is getting beyond annoying now! Even for me!
“Stop it, Thea. I don’t like him and he doesn’t like me either.” I snapped. “Just move on to something else.” I sighed.
“Okay. Relax, girl.” Thea surrendered.
“Can we talk about how amazing it will be to be back home after so long?” Lucas smiled.
“I missed home.” Oliver mumbled.
“And I can’t wait to see it.” I smiled.
“You won’t be disappointed.” Oliver grinned. “We have a pool and a hot tub too.” He whispered to me.
“Really? How cool!” I whispered back, playing along with him.
I personally think that home is not a place but the feeling that you get when you’re surrounded by the people you consider as your family.
And all of them had such people in the place where we were headed.
I didn’t have anyone like that anywhere in the world.
So, naturally, I had no idea what home actually felt like. Because an empty house sure didn’t give off the feeling of home even after putting all those expertly edited pictures I had with my parents.
Gosh! I’m so mopey!
“Speaking of home, we’re here.” Thea informed us as she pulled through huge gates into a long drive-way that led to a huge mansion.
And when a girl like me says the word huge, you can guess how ginormous it must be…
“Welcome to the main base, Mia.” Archer smirked when he saw me gaping at the building.
How does no one know about this place?!
It should be on the internet somewhere! This place is so big!
“This is home sweet home.” Thea commented with a big smile on her face.
“And since we’re here, I can officially say, welcome to the team, Mia.” Lucas smiled at me as Thea stopped the car in front of the big doors of the giant mansion.
“I’ll get started with the paperwork for your joining.” Archer sighed before getting out of the car and walking in through the huge main doors.
All that was on my mind at the point was: finally.
Finally, I was a part of a team…
