7 - Number one pack

HUNTER POV

Elliot and I arrived at Blood Fang pack just in time for the party, the pack-house sat in a small clearing and looked quite dark, other than the buzz in the air you wouldn't be able to tell there was a party happening inside. The pack-house wasn't huge like most I have seen but it was definitely impressive, as we got closer I could see the windows were tinted, and a lot smaller than usual hence the place looking so dark and abandoned. Surrounding the pack-house was the forest and homes were built into it almost concealing them among the trees and bushes. We stepped out of the car and instantly my wolf was on alert which in turn made me alert, the most amazing smell passed me by and went as quickly as it came, so quick I could identify the notes but it still sent my body into overdrive. I stood a little taller as I stopped and observed the forest, sniffing the air and hoping to catch that scent again. "Alpha? What's wrong?" Elliot asked snapping me out of it and looking around himself for any danger. "Nothing Elliot, Come on we shouldn't keep them waiting any longer" I replied with a sigh. We walked up the steps to the wooden door that opened as we reached it, an older lady stood there and looked at us questioningly "Hello Ma'am I am Alpha Hunter and this is my Beta Elliot from Blue Moon Pack, sorry we are late for young Alpha Zane's party I hope we haven't caused too much trouble?" I ask the lady who opened the door. "Oh of course not Alpha, Please come in and follow me to the hall" she replied with a small smile. 

We reached the hall and I only caught the scent once on the way here, still unsure of what the scent is I take a deep breath and walk into the hall closely followed by Elliot, we grabbed drinks from the free bar by the door before walking over to our table. at our table sat the Alpha and Luna of an allied pack that live in the mountains, the Frostpaw pack, they are known to be the most intelligent pack with many Elders residing in their pack they have an unlimited amount of knowledge about most werewolf issues. "Alpha Sullivan, Luna Ida How wonderful it is to see you here, How are you both?" I ask. "We are wonderful son thankyou, we have heard your doing well as Alpha now, How are your parents?" Alpha Sullivan asks "They are very well thankyou, I believe they are planning a trip up to the mountains shortly" I replied, Alpha Sullivan was an old friend of my fathers from the Academy. I continued my conversation with Alpha Sullivan as Elliot greeted Luna Ida and their beta couple who were also seated at the table. It wasn't long before the first servings were brought out and placed in front of us, the hall went silent as we waited for the hosting Alpha to speak. "Welcome all, thankyou for travelling here to Blood Fang pack for my son's 17th birthday, today is about Zane this time next year he will be taking over the pack as Alpha. I am proud of you son and your going to do fantastic in the years to come. Now let's eat." Alpha Zak, Zane's father said. 

ZANE POV 

After this morning I went for a run before working off more of my anger in the gym, after a few hours I had finally calmed down and got ready for the party. Guests started arriving early so I didn't get a chance to speak to Stacey to check she was okay, however Sam confirmed that she was feeling much better so that took some weight off my shoulders. I had made sure no-one visited Elle, today was not about her, however when most of the guests were in the hall I felt compelled to go and to her cell, so I slipped away and headed down the dark corridor. Elle was the only one in the dungeons at the moment so there was no need for a guard, she was human and weak after all. when I got to her cell I took the key off the wall and opened her cell, I cringed at the blood and bruises that coated her skin, she laid in the middle of the wet concrete floor among the dirt with her now dirty and matted hair laid around her head. I lifted her up off the floor and placed her gently on the sheet in the corner. I hate how much I am pulled to her, she is weak, human, nothing, she is never going to be good enough for me. With an angry sigh I walk out of her cell, lock up and leave. My suit jacket is a little wet and dirty from picking Elle up of the ground so I take it off, I shouldn't have done that, I should have left her where she was. I quickly walk into the hall and take my seat between my father and Sam. I look around the hall and notice there is only one Alpha that hasn't turned up. "Sam which Alpha is missing from table 2?" I ask him curiously, he looks over before informing me "Alpha Hunter of Blue Moon Pack, they are on their way just running a little late" I look at him with a raised eyebrow as the doors to the hall open and two men walk through. "Sam, What do you know about this Alpha and his pack he doesn't look that much older than us" I asked as I watch the Alpha make his way to his table. "He is 22, eldest son of Alpha Ian and Luna Shelia, their pack is the second largest and fiercest in the world, the pack was close with the King and Queen before the royals closed their doors, its said that Alpha Hunter took over the pack and all their businesses at 18 and since then he has only increased the power of his pack. Everyone says that he is one of the greatest Alphas already" Sam finished giving me a nervous glance, I look at my father on the other side of me and he clears his throat and gives his speech. 

As we eat I cannot help but think about what Sam said about Alpha Hunter and everything my father has been training me for. "Dad, Why did you invite an Alpha from  pack that is miles away to the party?" I ask my father as quietly as possible. "He is the only Alpha in this room who has had full control since he was 18, his pack is second in the world, next year you are taking over and you will be better, you will bring our pack to the top, we will be the number one pack, those pathetic royals are in hiding for goddess knows why and it shows they are weak, we don't hide, we are merciless we get what we want and need no questions asked. So Alpha Hunter is here so we can learn his strengths and weaknesses, he doesn't seem to have a mate yet so depending on his thoughts it could be a strength or a weakness that is your first job to find out." my father explains. So for the rest of the party I make my way around the tables talking to many different packs from around the world, many offer me advice such as "take your time to learn", "Don't take over before you are ready" but I am ready and it's infuriating that they think so little of me when they don't know me. On our way over to Alpha Hunter's table Stacey grabs my hand "Hey Beautiful" I greet her I have barely seen her all night and she looks stunning in her short blue mini skirt and matching bralette. "Hey Zane, Thankyou for everything I was hoping you would want to dance with me before the end of the night?" Stacey asked I looked over at Alpha Hunters table and noticed they were still deep into conversation and that they would be there for a little longer, a lot of other packs have retired for the night or started their journey home already so a break would be nice from talking and faking a smile. "Of course, anything for you" I tell her with a peck on the cheek. We dance for half an hour when I notice that Alpha Hunters table seem to be wrapping up so I excuse myself from Stacey and walk over to their table closely followed by Sam.

"Alpha Sullivan, Luna Ida Thankyou for coming it is much appreciated" I say greeting the frostpaw pack, although they are very knowledgeable and live in the mountains, no-one really knows much about this pack. "You are welcome young Alpha Zane, you must be doing well to be taking over the pack next year?" he questions I chuckle to hide my anger "Well I hope so Alpha Sullivan I mean it's already been accomplished right Alpha Hunter? It's wonderful to meet you and thankyou for the long journey to attend tonight" I finished taking a seat between the two Alphas. 

HUNTER POV

I could feel eyes on me most of the night mostly from the unmated females at the party but also from a few Alphas and their sons, I stayed seated with Alpha Sullivan at our table most of the night and participated in conversations with other Alphas who wanted to discuss treaties and business deals, however I was not in the mood or the place to discuss such things out in the open, Thankfully Elliot stepped in giving them his contact details and reminding them it is a party after all. much later in the night I noticed the soon-to-be Alpha Zane make his way towards our table, my wolf was getting annoyed and it was making me restless too. all night I had picked up traces of the scent but as quickly as I had it was gone too quick for me to identify and now that it was constantly on my mind it was slowly getting to me. Alpha Zane was stopped in his tracks by a young girl who was wearing much to less clothing leaving absolutely nothing to the imagination, thankfully they headed to the dancefloor, I continued to talk with Alpha Sullivan before finishing up the conversation. "Are you staying here tonight Sullivan or are you travelling back home?" I asked. "Neither, we actually booked a hotel in the town nearby for the night and what about you and Elliot? I imagine two young single men such as yourselves will want to be out having fun" he replied with a smirk, I chuckled at him "Usually I am all for taking a break and having a bit of fun but honestly I need to let my wolf out after all we spent 9 hours in the car driving here and then we have been sat here all night" I said with a laugh "tsk, tsk, I know your father didn't let go of the private jet why didn't you use it instead of driving" Sullivan asked with concern lacing his features, I chuckled shyly "I wanted to think and rest and I needed time to do so" I replied "fair enough, it looks like Zane is coming to join us" Sullivan said with an eyeroll I chuckled and listened in to the conversation between Zane and Sullivan. The scent I caught earlier was all over him, although it wasn't too strong it was the strongest I had caught it all night, I wondered who the scent belonged too as it would be much stronger if it belonged to the desperate girl he was just dancing with. "... Alpha Hunter? Its wonderful to meet you and thankyou for the long journey to attend tonight" Zane's voice broke through my thoughts its only then I realize I had been staring at him. "Yes, your very welcome unfortunately the journey here has taken its toll on me and I need to stretch my legs before I rest for the night" I reply to Zane. "Not a problem Alpha I will get someone to show you to your room, breakfast will be here in the hall from 8am and I hope you don't mind Alpha Hunter but would it be possible to sit with you tomorrow?" I looked at him and then Elliot who shrugged his shoulders. "That won't be a problem whatsoever thankyou Alpha Zane" I finished with a handshake and left the hall following the omega to my room, when I got there I turned to Elliot, "5 minutes and I will meet you downstairs for a run?" "See you soon Alpha" Elliot replied.
