11 - Never had a friend

DAVID POV 

I watched through the window on the door to Elle's room as Doctor Henry was talking, I couldn't see Elle from this angle and I hoped she couldn't see me either as I didn't want to upset her further. I watched as Doc looked at one monitor before getting Elle some water, she then went back to the monitors and removed wires and tubes from Elle as she went, I hoped this meant she was okay. Doc sat on the edge of the bed and I knew the hard part was coming, I watched as Doc comforted her before she mind linked me 'clear the hallway stay out of sight she still needs time to process but I want to do these tests' I saw the nurses had got a similar message as they headed into patient rooms and closed blinds, I decided to stand behind the wall in the opposite hallway whilst I updated my father 'She is awake Doc is taking her for some tests but she isn't comfortable around anyone else yet'. 

2 hours later I was sat in the waiting area and nurses had gone back to sitting at the desk, seeing to other patients and chatting with each other. Doc brought Elle down the hallway in a wheelchair, she had one hand pushing the wheelchair and another on Elle's shoulder. Elle's eyes were wide open but it didn't seem like she was looking at anything, just staring straight ahead, her knuckles were white from the tight grip she had on the arms of the chair. After they entered the room Doc got Elle settled on the bed, the door was left open so I stood up and walked slowly to the door, I didn't yet dare to go in so I waited. "Elle do you remember I said there was a visitor who wanted to see you after the tests?" I heard Doc ask "yes" Elle's voice sang to me. "Well he is here and he would like to talk to you I will be here the whole time" I heard Elle's heartbeat pick up speed as she shakily replied "w-who?" "Don't worry it's not him, it's a friend okay" Doc calmed her down "b-but I don't have any friends" you could hear the tears in her voice as she spoke, I decided now was the time to speak. "I would like to be your friend if you will have me?" I said as gently as possible as I stepped into the room. 

ELLE POV

I recognized him straight away, I could see the hope in his eyes and his voice was so gentle and he wanted to be my friend but I couldn't help but fear him. He had took another few steps into the room and was slowly closing in. "STOP!" I didn't mean to shout I just panicked. "Sorry, your too close" I whispered "Not a problem, how are you?" He asked as he moved back, I felt like I could breathe again and I loosened my grip on Doctor Henry's hand. "uh um I I'm okay" I replied. "Good" he smiled at me as he replied but I had to ask my question "You are his cousin, why are you here? why do you want to be my friend?" I rushed out as quickly as possible. He looked at me sheepishly before turning his gaze to the floor. "Yes I am his cousin, my name is David, I don't like or agree with what happened and I was the one who got you here so you could get better, I want to be your friend so I can look after you" He eventually replied. "Do I have to go back to the cell?" I asked him after all he didn't put me there so why was he allowed to get me out? "No, no, no Your not going back there okay but you will need to go back to work unfortunately that is the Alpha's orders and we all have to obey." he told me. I felt my hands get sweaty and my heart rate pick up, in fact both Doctor Henry and David looked at the machine as the beeping increased. "Calm down Honey, your not going back yet okay?" Doctor Henry said as she held my hands. "Elle if it's okay with you when you are ready I want to talk to you about going back what we can do to keep you safe?" David asked taking a step forward, my body automatically tensed "Sorry Elle" he said quietly taking a step back, "I-It's okay you can sit on the chair if you want" I told him, his face lit up in a huge smile and he slowly walked over and sat in the chair. "There now we are all comfortable, Elle I have to get back to work but I will be in to check on you throughout the night I will send a nurse in with some food for you and I believe David will be sat next to you all night as usual?" she asked him questioningly "Wait as usual?" I asked. "uh yeah when you were in a coma I would come by after dinner and stay until morning to make sure you were okay, you don't mind if I stay do you?" he asked shyly "n-no I don't think so, I am safe with you right?" I asked looking between him and Doctor Henry "yes" they both exclaimed at the same time. "okay, Thankyou Doctor Henry" I said utterly grateful for her support. "Oh you're welcome Honey and please its Abby" she said as she left the room. now it was just me and David. David was sweet, he always said hello to me and smiled at me, I guess I shouldn't have been surprised that he was here. David had put the tv in the room on and was watching some show but I was feeling really sleepy so I closed my eyes. 

DAVID POV 

It went better than I thought, Doc had left the room and I put the TV on I was going to ask Elle what she wanted to watch but she looked tired so I just left it as it was, she fell asleep pretty quickly and 10 minutes later a nurse entered the room. "She is asleep can you bring it later?" I asked the nurse, who shook her head. "I am sorry but Doctor Henry wants her to have something to eat before she goes to sleep" the nurse replied, I looked over at Ella and sighed I wanted her to get her rest, I gently shook her and called for her to wake up, when she started to open her eyes I quickly pulled my hand away not wanting to scare her "Ella you need to wake up and eat before you go back to sleep" I told her she opened her eyes and nodded sleepily, the nurse helped her to sit up and adjusted the bed as I brought the table closer to her. She started to eat the soup slowly before she asked if I would butter her bread as one arm was in a cast still. She continued to eat and I watched the TV well I wasn't actually watching the TV but I did not want her to feel uncomfortable by me staring at her. "David, what will happen when I have to go back?" her sweet innocent voice broke me out of my thoughts. "well, I am not entirely sure. We will speak to Doc tomorrow and find out how you are and how long it will take to recover. you will be back to your normal duties as soon as possible though, it seems no-one can lift a finger around the pack house. As long as you do what is asked of you when it is asked and you do it right everyone should stay away and leave you be" I explained "Why did he do this?" she asked as a tear streamed down her face "oh Princess, this should never have happened, it was never your fault remember that." I told her not wanting to tell her Stacey set her up. "But why? Did he do this because of what Stacey said in the kitchen it wasn't true" "I know princess, Stacey had put on a show and claimed you cut up all of her clothes, Zane didn't look into finding out the truth because he believed her" I told her "No it's not, why didn't you believe her?" She asked and now I was confused "I didn't believe her because you are not that type of girl, because it is obvious what she was doing" I told her truthfully. "Exactly, but he loves her that's why he believed it" She said before eating the rest of her meal and going back to sleep. I sat and thought about what she said for most of the night before an idea came to mind.
