Chapter 6

His voice carried a hint of authority making the people make way for him. His eyes collided with mine and I looked away immediately, unable to keep the gaze. There was something about him that commanded respect. It was innate, he didn't need to force anything or demand it either. Standing next to me, he extended his hand to me, and I took it, allowing him to help me from the floor. “Aren't you all ashamed of yourselves ganging up to bully a woman? And my woman at that?” He asked, his sharp gaze sweeping through the people. “ What do you mean by ganging up to bully a woman? She killed my Luna and deserves to be punished!” Alpha Asher spat, a glare fixated on me. “ Yes, she is a murderer. She has to face the punishment.” Another one declared. “ Is that so? Did any of you see her killing the said person?” He asked, his voice unwavering. Seeing him standing before me, protecting me made me feel warm inside. It has to be said that this was the first time someone defended me. The feeling was new, yet looking at him, it felt so familiar. “ The evidence is right in front of us. She still has my mate's blood in her hands. What other evidence is needed?” Asher seemed agitated, no ounce of sorrow could be traced on his face. It was more like he just wanted me convicted. “ The last time I saw the two of you, you were trying to force yourself on her. If there's someone who she needs to kill and I'll gladly help her, that's you, Alpha Asher. “ The Lycan King's words echoed, drawing a gasp from the crowd. Asher snarled, his fangs bared, clearly offended by the lycan King's words. " What? You can't stand hearing the truth? I'm starting to believe you killed your Luna just to set Raven up since you can't have her. " He added nonchalantly. " What nonsense are you spouting? We have respect for the lycans but that doesn't give you the right to barge here and throw baseless accusations to others. " The woman beside Valen spoke. She eyed me, her gaze filled with malice. I was taken aback . I had already figured out that I was set up but what could have made a total stranger to me hate me so much? " Whether I'm spouting nonsense or not, we will find out soon. " The lycan king declared. " There's always two sides of a story. We have heard one side. Care to explain your side? " The lycan king said , turning to look at me. I nodded before narrating what transpired and how I ended up losing consciousness only to wake up as a murderer! " " Nonsense! Why would she use her life to threaten you. " Alpha Asher snarled. " I'm taking the lady away. In two days, i'll prove her Innocence. " The lycan king declared. " She is a criminal, she deserves to stay locked behind bars. " An alpha disagreed immediately. I could see that there's no way I was walking out of this one unscathed. Whoever plotted against me played his cards really well, how could they let me go just like that. I caught a subtle exchange between Alpha Rivera and Asher but looked away immediately. " We can give you two days but she is going nowhere with you. According to pack rules, Raven will be locked up and tried in two days. " Alpha Asher said with finality. The lycan king didn't respond. Instead he took my hand. " Don't worry. I'll get you out of here safely. " He promised and I nodded. Something about his gaze told me I could trust him despite meeting him for the first time. I was dragged out by two guards. The night breeze was chilly and I could hear the faint sound of wolves howling in the distance. I was brought to a small house and pushed inside. I was very familiar with the house as it served as the pack's torture chamber. I should have expected it. Asher would not be kind enough to just lock me up. He would probably enjoy torturing me. The guards walked away after locking me up, leaving me alone. I looked around the room. There was a wooden table in the middle of the room and two chairs. Resigning to my fate, I pulled a chair and sat down. I could not help but think how I ended up falling from grace and returning to grass once again. I had thought that I found a family when I joined Valen's pack. Everyone treated me with kindness and I felt like I was home. Was all that kindness fake? What did I ever do to deserve being betrayed by those I considered family? Tears rolled down my cheek as the emotions I tried to bury resurfaced. The betrayal still hurts like a fresh wound and I wasn't sure if I would ever recover from it. The door creaked open and my heart stirred seeing the person before me. " Valen... " I croaked out. " I didn't think you would fall this low, Alpha Rivera! " He said, his voice filled with mockery. He was not here for me, rather, he came to add salt to my wounds. " Why? " I asked. Why would he betray me? Why would he set me up? I always treated him like any closest confidant. “ Are you seriously asking me that, Raven? I loved you, cared about you, protected you when everyone cast you aside. But what about you? You treated me like air. You knew that I had feelings for you but you kept avoiding me like a plague. What did you expect? Every betrayal comes with a price and this is the price you had to pay for choosing that man over me. The plan was to simply get you investigated but you had to push your luck, flirting with other men.” Valen's accusations left me shocked to the core. The hatred, the resentment in his eyes was so raw. “ Since you chose him over me, let's see how he gets you out of this mess.”
