Escape
~Maya~
“Wakey Wakey, my dear sister Maya. You shouldn’t be sleeping when you’re about to become the wife of the Morris family’s only son.”
Annabel’s voice invaded my ears and I attempted to open my eyes but they immediately squinted shut. I wasn’t expecting the ray of bright lights that pierced my pupils like they were aimed at blinding me. I tried again slowly, and this time my eyes widened from shock.
Where am I?
“Smile for the camera,” Annabel sang and I finally saw the camera positioned in front of me as well as the three men standing beside her. I didn’t miss the sight of one of them licking their lips, I wish I did.
Their eyes were glassy, all of them were older. I knew perverts when I saw them and they reeked of it but that wasn’t the real danger.
I just realized that I couldn’t move, it felt like my blood was replaced with lead and my vision was fading by the minute.
This was bad.
“Poor thing, you really thought an orphan like you could become Mr. Pedro’s bride. Don’t be a joke! Just because my parents adopted you, doesn’t make you one of the elites. You’re a lowlife and you’ll always be a lowlife, got it?”
My tongue felt heavy, I tried to speak, to scream that I didn’t want to marry Pedro, that this entire engagement was forced on me by a family that saw me as nothing more than a trade item. But wouldn’t Annabel know best of the torture I endured in their hands all these years?
Wouldn’t she know best how I tried to kill myself to escape this goddamn arranged marriage with the Morris?!
It was pointless to speak, I rather save my energy to survive this madness.
“What’s that? You’ve got something to say?” She mocked, leaning into the bed where I laid like a sack of potatoes.
“I’m sure you must be struggling, the drug is in full effect now. Do put on a good show for everyone. You’re going to be a star, breaking the morning news. Ha!”
She stood and addressed the men while I watched through hazy eyes, “Get a good shot of her boys. Let the world see what type of woman Pedro is marrying. This will be viral by morning.”
Yes, I had wanted to die than marry Pedro Morris but being violated like this wasn’t an acceptable resolve to end the engagement and certainly not being Annabel’s pawn in her sick schemes.
With the last energy in my veins I slid my hands into my purse and watched while the men approached me with their belts hanging loosely around their waist. The one on the left which was diagonal to the door already lost his shirt, revealing a ugly tattoo in the hairy midst. I gulped nervously but one thing was clear in my fuzzy mind.
I was escaping this place tonight!
The bed squeezed under their weights the moment they closed in and I shut my eyes and did what a cornered prey would do.
I pulled out my pepper spray and sprayed it like a never-ending sprinkler while I jumped out of the bed, dragging my limbs like they weren’t part of my body.
Just a step to the door my head was yanked back by a hand. How could I forget my dear sister, Annabel!
I sprayed it across her eyes and bolted, leaving behind agonizing screams. I didn’t look back but I wasn’t getting any farther with my wobbly legs. I knew Annabel wouldn’t give up easily and I wouldn’t make it out of this massive hotel in time.
My fingers turned a door handle and I stumbled in with the momentum of a person running for dear life.
My cheek landed against a hard surface that smelled like expensive soap and something else I couldn’t name. A breeze whispered across the room as I fell to the ground, but I couldn’t tell where it came from.
My body was on fire.
My lips were dry as hell. My thighs rubbed together restlessly while my breath caught with every small movement. Whatever Annabel slipped into my drink. It had fully kicked in and it was only matter of time before I lose my mind.
“Cold…” I whispered and heard a grunt of pain mixed with displeasure. And then I realized, I landed on someone not something!
