The Few

It started so long ago no one could pin point how it all started. First thing that people noticed was that the global temperature started to rise. It grew noticeably warmer and warmer all over the world, it heated the oceans causing issues with marine life and the ecosystem within almost all of the oceans globally. Ice started to melt on a large scale. The arctic poles started to shrink and countries that were used to getting annual snow fall stopped seeing snow at all. Soon the water levels got higher. Small islands were taken under the ocean and destroyed as well as all the people who lived there. Gone. Then the winds came, the earthquakes and the floods.  Tensions between countries were becoming strained. War was on the very tip of the powerhouses of the worlds lips and the countries in the shadows were scared to be swept up in the process. Each country blames the other for what was happening to the world, and expected each country to fix the issue but nothing could be done. Then the world awoke to the most shocking news they could have imagined. New Zealand was gone. The whole country was under water. Only a few years before Australia had been host to weeks of raging forest fires, Australia begged for the bickering to stop, and yes, help was sent, but nothing was done. So when the world awoke to see that a close country had fallen into the sea made all the major players start to think that something actually needed to be done. But what? America, concerned about loosing Hawaii started talks with Canada, Greenland and Mexico to see what could be done to aid the far western global side of the world. Australia, Russia, China and India came together to discuss what the far east could do, otherwise they would loose all the islands in the Pacific Ocean.  The Northern-central countries once known as "Europe" came together under the powerhouse's of the United Kingdom scared to have Ireland fall to the waves. Iceland, Germany, Italy and Turkey joined to find a way to curve the growing tides. Then finally the southern-central  countries known as "Africa" came together starting with South Africa, Kenya, Morocco and Nigeria. Small victories where being won. Global warfare seemed to be forgotten, for the moment, but not much could be done on a whole to help the world. After four years of numerous attempts the global leaders of the 17 nations came together and decided that the only way anything could be really done would be to work together. The Global Alliance was started, other countries were welcomed into the Alliance until almost all the countries of the world were involved. The worlds best scientists worked hand in hand regardless of race, s*x or religion to look into what could be done and with time, a long time, the world began to heal. But with all the effect and money that was put into such a cure, how could the Global Alliance make sure that this could never happen again? Easy. The thing that was responsible for all the problems within the world in the first place was humans. Humans freedom to burn, to fish, to pollute and destroy. So the Global Alliance decided the best way to fix this problem was to take that freedom away. At birth every human baby was fitted with a micro-chip in the side of their neck. Painlessly and tiny. It couldn't be felt, seen or picked up on metal detectors. And then, at the age of 18 all persons would have their chip activated. This would take away free thought, free ideas and the ability to go against the Global Alliance. However, there were some who had managed to trick their chips and stop them sending signals to their brain. These outsiders formed an underground movement all over the world. The only goal was to bring back the freedom. These were known as "The Few."
