CHAPTER SEVENFor a moment Calina stared at him. Then she closed the door quietly. She asked herself frantically what she should do and it was then that she knew the answer. She started to walk quickly down the corridor. As she did so, she saw a servant come out of one of the doors on the left carrying a tray. She was sure that this was where she had seen the Marquis going into his cabin. When she reached the door, she found that it was not fastened. Instead of knocking she pushed it open. It was the way into the Marquis’s sitting room. He was sitting at a writing table at the far end of it. He had taken off his coat, which was lying on a chair and was working only in his shirtsleeves.
