Zen's POV
It was Monday when school was back. I woke up very early and left for school early too. Even my uncle was surprised at me waking up that early. I too was surprised! But I gotta do what I gotta do, so...
When I got there, there were only a handful of students that were around. Melody called me yesterday saying she won't be back not until Wednesday, their flight was cancelled due to a family emergency.
I sat on my chair and pulled out a piece of paper and started writing. There was a strong breeze from outside the corridor that a smell of vanilla hit my nose hard. I knew who that is. And shortly enough, she was there by the door. Since I was looking down, pretending to be writing something, I could only see her shoes. She seemed to be checking out the room for people because she was just there standing at the door.
I couldn't control anymore. Look at her, fool! I had to look at her. My heart was beating fast from the anxiousness. As soon as I looked up, time froze. She was looking at me too, I swore I could've heard the Guys Next Door's hit song I've Been Waiting For You playing on the background. She changed her hair. It was now straight, smooth and silky. Just like in my dream.
Our eyes met for who knows how long! She was the one who broke from the gaze and walked in the classroom it's as if it was in a slow-motion scene. I followed her as the air blew away hair from her face. I could still smell vanilla from all the way over here. My mouth fell open.
She went outside the garden, to her favorite spot. I wanted to follow her so bad so I could talk to her.
"Earth to Zee, Hello! Hey classmates! Welcome back to school!", said Daisy who was snapping me back to reality.
I gave her an annoyed look.
"Come on Zee! Don't be such a hot head. It's the first day of school!"
"You just happen to ruin the best part of my morning", I gritted my teeth.
"Who? Her??" she said as she pointed her mouth to Sam's direction.
"Would you pipe it down?", while grabbing her by the collar.
"Oops! Sorry." Daisy just giggled.
I was looking at Sam by the garden when Daisy interrupted me once more.
"Hey where's Melody? You know your girlfriend.", stressing on the word girl friend.
"She won't be back until Wednesday. Said it was a family emergency."
"Oh, okay."
I laid my eyes back to where Sam was at. She was sitting at the bench, her back to the window. She titled her head so her face would touch the ray of the sun. These butterflies would need to keep the excitement to themselves.
"So! How are you doing?"
"What's up with you? You've interrupted me a couple of times already, this would be the third time." I was now obviously irritated.
"Huh! What's up with you?? You're the one who's so irritable today."
I didn't answered, I was still looking outside.
"You're undeniably early" Daisy noticed. "And undeniably distracted, I must point out."
"Who? Me? Distracted? Oh c'mon!" I defensively said.
"Right... We've been friends for so long Zee. Now you decide to keep secrets from me?" she raised an eyebrow.
I finally gave up. I held up my hand in defeat and I told Daisy about my dream. I also told her I don't often remember my dream that well, and that this one was an exception.
"So what's your plan? What are you going to do about Melody?" we were talking hush-hush now.
"To be honest, I don't know what to do!" Sigh. "A part of me tells me to forget Sam and move on with Melody." I paused to think of how I'm going to say the next few words. "But another part of me tells me to follow my heart and pursue Sam once more."
Daisy and I were silent for awhile.
I saw Sam greeting Vanessa who just came into the room. She told Sam how she looked great in her new hair. Vanessa was right. Sam looked exceptional and stunning as ever! Flashbacks from my dream came as I continued to stare at her.
"Boy. You do have a huge problem on your shoulders."
"Wait, what? Oh.. Yeah, I know. It's so confusing!"
"Wait, you don't have a problem. You have a dilemma! Hmm... Well you just can't break up with Melody!"
I saw Sam looked our way.
"Ssshhh! Geez D, you're going to get both of us in trouble!".
I wasn't listening to Daisy anymore when I over-heard Sam and Vanessa talk something about a dream.
Huh. A dream. I wondered what's it about.
What am I going to do? I can't just run away from my relationship with Melody. On the other hand, Sam's been acting pretty strange lately. And boy did that dream made me way confused than I ever remembered!
I shook off the image in my head. I tried doing a lot of activities to divert my attention. But no matter how hard I try, I just can't help it. My feelings towards Sam crept back. I took out my pocket-sized cassette tape player and started listening to it while the rest of the world came in a blur.
I'm doomed!
