Chapter 24
“Hello.”
“Mark, this is Frank. I need you to come and get me.”
“What?”
Frank fought to keep his voice even and not break down. “Bill left, and I need a way to get back to campus.”
“What do you mean Bill left? What’s goin’ on?”
“I told Bill that we needed to call it off for his sake and…” Frank felt himself close to tears. “I’ll explain when I see you. Can you come?”
“Yeah…I’ll find a car…somewhere.” Mark sounded puzzled and concerned. “Where are you?”
“The Starlight Motel. I think it’s in Jackson.”
“Okay. I’ll use my phone GPS. I’ll call when I’m on my way.”
“I’m in room 115.”
“Got it. See you soon.”
Frank hung up. He swallowed hard. He’d held it together as long as he could. He gave in to his anguish and lay on the bed sobbing.
