12. Fallen Guard

Leah slowly turned around to face the door, and there he was. Damian was already inside the room, already staring at her with those same burning eyes filled with rage. She sat up, even though her body felt like it was breaking apart. She used her elbows to hold herself up and ignored the pain in her arms and back. She was still terrified but she didn’t look away. She stared right back at him, her eyes full of challenge. But as she stared longer, her thoughts began to blur. Even though he looked so scary like he could destroy everything in one second, there was something about him that made it hard to look away. His face was so perfect, like it was carved from stone. Every features looked almost too flawless to be real. She never imagined that someone could look this terrifying and still be so mesmerizing at the same time. Leah realized he was walking closer to her now, each step slow but firm, and yet... she still couldn’t stop herself from staring at him. Her heart was thudding loudly, not just from fear anymore, but from something else she didn’t really understand. Even though she knew he was dangerous, she couldn’t look away. Being closer, His platinum blonde hair looked damp, a little messy like he had just taken a shower. The soft light in the room made his skin glow, and a drop of water slid down the side of his neck. Leah’s eyes followed it before she could even stop herself. His hair, usually neat, was sticking out a little in the front, and instead of making him look less serious, it made him seem even more attractive in a strange way. He didn’t look like someone who had just ordered her to be dragged and thrown onto a bed like a ragdoll. Rather, right now, he looked like someone out of a painting, and somehow unreal. Leah’s breath got caught in her throat as her eyes moved across his face. His sharp jawline, his intense amber eyes, his tall figure... it was hard not to admire him. For a brief moment, she forgot. She forgot the pain, the fear, everything. She forgot that this was the same man who had stared at her like she was nothing and had his guards hurt her. It was like her mind had gone blank, caught in some weird trance. But that haze shattered like glass when Damian stepped even closer. Now he was right in front of her. Way too close. Leah’s whole body trembled. It wasn’t like before, this time, her fear showed. Her hands shook, her shoulders tensed, and her breath hitched in her throat. 'He’s going to punish me now!' Her mind screamed, and panic rushed through her like fire. Without thinking, she scoot backward on the bed. When Leah was about to get off the bed and run, suddenly a strong grip grabbed her left ankle. She stopped dead in her tracks. "Let me go, please..." Leah begged again, her voice trembling as she looked down and saw the man holding her ankle tight. Before she could say anything more, Damian roughly yanked her ankle, making her fall backward onto the bed, landing flat on her back. He didn’t waste a second. He immediately leaned over her, blocking any chance of escape. Leah pushed against his chest with her hands, but he caught both her hands quickly and pinned them above her head with one strong hand. "Calm down," he growled, his voice low and dangerous, and suddenly her whole body froze. Lying under him, Leah felt tiny compared to his large, well-built, muscular body. She could feel the power in him, and she knew he could easily crush her if he wanted to or worse... he might r**e her. Her vision blurred as tears welled up in her eyes, and her mind filled with fear. 'Would he really r**e me now?' she thought, her heart aching. But then, unexpectedly, he released her hands and moved away from her body. He sat down on the edge of the bed, looking serious. His eyes slowly scanned her from head to toe, then finally looked away. "Sit up," he commanded coldly, making Leah jump a little from the sharp tone. Only then did she realize her oversized t-shirt had ridden up to her stomach, showing her undergarments. Feeling embarrassed, she hurriedly sat up and pulled the shirt down to cover herself. His eyes snapped back to her, sharp and heated. Leah wasn’t brave enough to keep staring. She dropped her gaze to her lap, waiting for whatever he was going to do next. Tears rolled down her cheeks because she was so scared, expecting the worst. "Look at me," he said softly. Leah refused to obey. She was too hurt and afraid, thinking he was only here to hurt her again. "I said look at me," he barked this time, and Leah flinched. A strangled cry escaped her lips, and she slowly lifted her head to meet his eyes. "I don’t like to repeat myself. So whenever I say something, you have to obey it instantly," he said firmly. Leah swallowed hard. "Understood?" He raised his brow at her, and she nodded quickly. "I need words, Leah," he demanded. "Ye... yeah... I... I... understand..." she choked on her words, feeling her throat close up. Damian’s lips twitched into a slight smirk. "Let’s go straight to the point, Leah. Why did you try to escape?" he asked, sounding serious this time. Leah felt the words get stuck in her throat. She wasn’t sure if she should tell him the truth that she was scared of him and didn’t want to be hurt by any man again. "The last thing I remember," Damian continued, "I was treating you nicely and even helping you get better. So what was the reason?" Leah stayed silent, unable to answer. She felt even more scared now. She didn’t know how he would react if she told him the truth. Her hands clenched the fabric of her t-shirt tightly as he seemed to be losing patience. "I... I... thought you were going to hurt me..." she mumbled, her whole body trembling. He sighed heavily, hearing her answer. "I told you no one will hurt you here again, didn’t I?" he asked, his voice softer this time. But Leah still didn’t feel okay. She sat there stiff and scared, her hands clutching the edge of her shirt so tightly her knuckles turned white. Her throat burned from holding in her sobs. She sniffled and shook her head slowly. "I don’t know... I find it difficult to believe that you’re not going to abuse me," Leah whispered, her voice so shaky it barely came out. Tears filled her eyes again and slid down her cheeks. Damian’s eyes widened a little, clearly surprised. But then, to Leah’s shock, an amused expression slowly appeared on his face. "And why do you think that?" he asked, his voice calm but curious. "Because I’m a mafia or because I know Ander?" His words made Leah shiver. Her lips trembled as she tried to speak. "Bo... both..." she finally said in a soft voice, "And that makes you more scary." She bit her lip, scared that he might get mad this time. Maybe he would really slap her for saying that. But instead, to her total surprise, Damian laughed. He actually laughed. Leah blinked and stared at him shamelessly, too shocked to look away. His smile spread across his face, and he looked... Beautiful. For a moment, Leah forgot to breathe. But then her heart reminded her that this angel-like man could be a devil in disguise. She had to remember that. Finally, Damian stopped laughing and looked at her again. "You have a reason to be scared," he said seriously, "But I’m also a man of my words, Leah. You’re safe here... with me. And that’s my promise to you." She stared at him, not sure what to say. "And no one will hurt you here. Let alone me," he added firmly. Then, before she could even react, he said something strange. "And if you still don’t believe me... let me bring something for you." Leah’s eyes followed him as he got up and left the room. Her heart pounded louder than before. What was he going to bring? Was it something dangerous? Was he angry now?
