{Miles’ POV}
We got into his car and quickly made our way back to the hospital. We ran up to Adelynn’s room, and when we opened the door, we were both met with a horrifying scene. Lola was sitting on Adelynn’s waist, her hands around her throat tightly, she was choking her. “You told on me didn’t you? You’re a rotten little bi***! I’ll fu***** ki** you, you mutt!” She screamed, as her hands tightened around Adelynn’s throat. “You are nothing! Nothing but a filthy stray!”
Theo ran over, grabbing Lola by the hair and throwing her down onto the ground. “That’s it Lola! You’re done! The cops are on their way, and you best believe that we’re pressing fu***** charges!” He shouted.
“I-I.. she was choking, I was trying to help her!” Lola stuttered, her voice coming out high pitched, and whiny, something I hadn’t noticed much until now.
“Why are you still trying to lie when we caught you red handed!” Theo said, rage flaring in his eyes. “Poor Adelynn was so terrified of you that she refused to even tell me what happened, I had to go pull the footage from the security camera!” He shouted at her. “We all saw you, we heard you! You’ve been caught Lola, and now, now you’re going to have to deal with something you’ve never had to deal with before.” He smirked, pushing her to the ground. “The consequences of your actions!”
She cried, crawling on her hands and knees across the ground reaching for me. “Baby boo, please, I didn’t do anything wrong! I was just trying to make sure she knew her place!” She shrieked.
It was then that I saw her for what she really was.. a selfish, bratty, spoiled bi***. I sneered down at her, anger, and pain coursing through me. I loved this woman.. I wanted to marry this woman.. and she did this, to my own sister?” You hurt my sister who couldn’t even fight back. We just saw you trying to ki** her! Are you seriously trying to justify that?” I asked, pure rage oozing from my voice. “I never want to see you again, we’re done Lola!” I snapped, watching as the security guards from the hospital ran into the room, grabbing her and dragging her from the room. She was kicking and screaming, cursing all of us. I just shook my head, looking over to Adelynn who was shaking, and holding her throat trying to catch her breath. Tears spilled down her face as she looked at me. I walked to her side, placing my hand on her face and smiled softly down at her. “I’m so sorry.. y- you never should have had to deal with that! You should’ve told me.. I’m not angry or upset with you, but I’m completely heartbroken that you think that I’d rather you get hurt than break up with someone being cruel to you.” I said, wiping away her tears. “We are family Addie.. we’re your brothers, that means that all of us are going to be here for you!” I smiled down at her.
She grabbed my hand and looked around frantically. I grabbed her phone, and handed it to her. She typed out on the screen. “I’m so sorry.. I just didn’t want to ruin your relationship..” she showed it to me, and something in me broke.
I sat down on the bed beside her and shook my head, placing my hand on hers. “You didn’t ruin my relationship, Lola did!” I said, wiping her tears away once again. “Don’t ever think that you did this, this was all Lola, you were her victim, and she picked on you because she thought she’d get away with it. I’ll never forgive her for hurting my baby sister! So you better not forgive her either! You’re important, so start treating yourself like you are!” I finished, standing beside her and leaning down to kiss the top of her head. “All of us are taking turns staying with you until you get to come home, no ifs ands, or buts about it!”
She smiled softly up to me, grabbing her phone and typing out. “Thank you.. thank you guys so much..” tears spilled down her cheeks once again, and it was then that I wondered, just what had my sister been through to think so lowly of herself that she’d rather be hurt, then to make one of us upset in any way.
I looked over to my brother and motioned for him to come out into the hallway. “We’ll be right back, we’re going to make sure the doctor knows about this new arrangement.” I said, coming up with something on the fly, before leading my brother out, and down the hallway. “So.. what happened to her?” I asked, looking in his eyes. “She was hurt somehow and can’t walk, you told me that much, but what aren’t you telling me?” I asked, leaning against the wall.
He let out a long, heavy sigh before leaning back against the wall next to me. “She was abused..” he said, his voice coming out a bit strained. “The people who raised her.. abused her regularly. When she tried to leave.. the man she thought was her father, he threw her down a flight of stairs.. telling her that the only way she’ll be leaving was in a body bag.”
Every hair on my body stood up, it felt as though electricity was surging through me, a sharp pang in my chest causing me to wince slightly. “He did this to her?” I asked through gritted teeth.
He nodded, crossing his arms over his chest. “I looked through her file here at the hospital.. I’d never seen anything like it. He broke her spine.. her legs.. her arms.. her eye socket, and nose.. she was battered and bruised, she has scars all over her from the surgeries she had to have to help with her broken bones. Her ribs broke, puncturing her lungs.. she was put into a medically induced coma for over a month to help her heal, and even now, she’s had to have another surgery. The doctor told her that with this surgery, she should be able to walk within a couple of months.. but it’s been so long since she’s had any feeling in her legs. They’re hopeful, but they’re not certain she’ll ever walk again.” He said, his head leaning back against the wall as he closed his eyes. “She’s been through so much.. and we weren’t there to protect her. Now that she’s here, now that she’s home.. I’m not letting anyone hurt her ever again, that includes family.” He said, turning his gaze to me. “Do I make myself clear?”
I nodded. “I’m not going to hurt her.. I already messed up once, I’m not going to again.” I said, turning to face him. “I promise Theo, I’ll help in any way I can. She’s family, and family is everything.”
He reached out his hand, and I took it, shaking hands with him. “Family is everything.” He repeated the family motto back to me. “So let’s go make sure our baby sister is okay.” He said, turning and walking back towards her room. I followed close behind, and we set up a schedule for each of us to stay a night with her in a rotation until she’s released from the hospital.
