{Adelynn’s POV}
As we got out of the car, and Theo helped me into my chair we could hear people talking and drinking out back. We walked around the house, making it to a side gate, and making our way into the back yard. Everyone’s eyes turned to us, as I pulled my jacket closed around me. I felt over exposed, and terrified with everyone looking at us. Mom took me over, introducing me to some of her friends, they all fussed over me, asking what happened, and how I am.. to be honest I zoned out a while into our conversation, deciding to excuse myself, and take a second to just breathe.
I rolled over to the side of the pool, looking down into the water. It was still clean, but you could tell that it hadn’t been used for a while. I took in some deep breaths trying to calm myself down when I heard fits of laughter behind me. I turned slightly seeing three women, one with black hair and blue eyes in a skin tight blue dress, one with brown hair and brown eyes in a tight yellow dress, and a third with curly red hair, and bright green eyes, she was wearing a tight green dress. As the three of them made their way over to me, I could see them on a video call. “This is the stray?” The black haired woman asked, looking over me. “What an ugly little thing!” She cackled.
I tried to wheel away, but the red head grabbed my chair, smirking down at me. “Where do you think you’re going? We’re here to teach you a lesson, snitches get stitches, I’m sure even a broke bi*** like you has heard that saying!” She giggled. “You really should’ve learned your place! Honestly, you cost our best friend her relationship, and you even had the nerve to have her arrested!” She shrieked.
I looked over to try to find my family, my parents had gone inside with their friends. Liam and Theodore stood under the deck with a couple of their friends with their backs to me. While Miles and Sebastian stood up on top of the deck, leaning over it and talking to their friends. They didn’t seem to notice me, and as I went to shout the woman with black hair put her hand over my mouth stopping me. I watched as the gate swung open and in came Lola, she wore a skin tight pink dress, her hair up in a high ponytail, she wore way too much makeup, and a devilish smile played across her lips as she walked over to us. She grabbed the arm rests of my chair, getting down in my face. “I told you.. you’ll always be at the bottom, and I will always come out on top! This time, I’ll make sure you stay silent.” She giggled, pushing me backwards into the pool.
It felt as though time slowed down, as my body landed in the freezing cold water. I couldn’t swim.. my legs still had no feeling, all I could do was flail my arms around as I sunk to the bottom. Panic sunk in as I wondered if anyone had even heard me splash into the pool with the music that was playing. If my brothers had noticed Lola come in, or if anyone had even seen what happened to me. With the metal back brace I sank to the bottom, and soon I couldn’t hold my breath any longer. As the last of my air left my lungs I heard a splash in the water. I felt strong arms wrap around me, pulling me to the surface. I gasped, taking in a deep breath as soon as I could feel the air on my face. It was cold, and the crisp air stung with each deep breath I took. I gripped onto the neck of my savior, my body trembling against them.
I looked up to see Theodore and Liam staring down at me from the side of the pool. If they were here.. then who saved me? I looked down my eyes landing on the man who was holding me snug against him. He was handsome.. more handsome than any man I’d ever seen before. His pale skin was offset by his amber colored eyes, and his jet black hair. His neck and chest were exposed showing off his tattoos, and a thick stubble laid across his chin, nearly reaching the length of a beard. His eyes scanned over, landing on my face as he walked us to the other side of the pool. He carefully lifted me bridal style, and packed me out of the pool, my brothers surrounding us and covering he and myself with blankets.
I could see Lola seething, her eyes watching every move I made. “Are you done now?” I asked, my voice cold, and deadly, devoid of any emotion.
“You bi***, I’ll ki** you!” She screamed, rushing towards me, and the man holding me.
I shot her a glare before chuckling. “Your attempts thus far have worked out well for you.”
“Go to he** bi***!” She screeched, as her hand reached up to smack me.
I grabbed her wrist, digging my nails into her skin, all of my pent up anger coursing through me. “I’ve already been there, and it’s so much worse than anything that your lackluster, clumsy imagination could ever come up with.” I seethed, releasing her wrist.
The man holding me shot her a glare, leaning over and whispering something in her ear. I watched as her face twisted up in horror as she fell backwards trying to get away from him. He turned us away from her, and began walking away.
“Killian.. thank you..” Theodore said, reaching out his arms to take me from him.
Instead the man holding me pulled me closer to his chest, and shrugged, and c****d his head to the side. “Grab my glasses, we’re leaving.” He said to my brother, who rushed to the side of the pool, picking up a pair of round frame glasses and following behind the man who was carrying me. We walked out of the backyard, and across a driveway, in through another large gate. He carried me into another mansion, one with nothing but black, grey, and white colors everywhere. He carried me inside, setting me down next to a massive two sided fireplace. Theodore handed him his glasses, and he carefully slid them on. I thought he was handsome before.. now looking at him muddled what was left of my mind. My body shivered as I scooted closer to the fireplace, trying to warm up. “Are you okay?” He asked, his voice deep, and silky.
I looked up at him, nodding before looking back to the fireplace. “T-Thank you.. for saving me.” I said softly, pulling the blanket tighter around me. The cloth on my back brace, and my leg braces were soaked, freezing me to the bone.
He knelt down in front of me, undoing my leg braces, and setting them to the side. “Don’t mention it..” he said, walking out of the room and coming back a few minutes later. He had a ball of clothes in his hands. “Theo.. take your sister and get her out of those wet clothes before she catches her death..” he said, handing the clothes to my brother.
Theo walked over, lifting me from my place in front of the fireplace, and packed me into a bathroom. Normally I could change myself, but these clothes were stuck to me like glue. I looked up at him. “C-Could you help me get this off?” I asked. “And could you get Sebastian to get my old back brace out of the car? I think we left it in there earlier.”
He nodded, opening the door slightly and shouting into the hallway. “Sebastian, go grab Adelynn’s backup brace from the trunk, and Liam go grab her wheelchair, I think it’s still by the pool.” He said. “Are you sure it’s okay for me to help you? Do you want me to go get mom?” He asked.
I really just wanted to get out of these wet clothes, they were freezing me to the bone. “I-It’s okay, just don’t look.” I said, turning slightly so he can unzip me.
Once I was unzipped his hand froze on my back. I knew what he was looking at.. the burn marks that were left on my back from years of James’ abuse. He used to take a metal hanger and hold it in the fireplace, then whip my back with it when I didn’t listen.. “Are these.. are these burns..” he muttered, his fingers grazing softly across them.
