Chapter two.  12 years early in the past. First year of the apocalypses.  “Minthie point of view.”  We used to live in an old town far away from the big cities. It was a beautiful place, full of flowers and places were children could play. With large forest full of green trees and precious flowers. You could say Greenville was a radiant place. Greenville was one dreamy place to live, calm and quiet. A peaceful place where everyone was happy. And you had everything you needed. But it didn't took long enough for the news to arrive. The deadly creatures attacking others villages aired in everybody's television. And caused the panic to raise between the villagers. My first encounter with one of this creatures was when I was eight years old. I was inside my tiny house, playing with the fire in the chimney. When my father Theodore entered through the old wooden door, slamming it across the wall behind it. His black hair was a sweaty mess, with some pieces attached to his forehead. The noise the door made was so loud that caused my mother Teresa, a petit blonde with curly hair. My sister Nadia, a twelve years old that was a copy of my mother and me to look up at him. He closed the door and put the various locks installed on it. Turning around he glanced at us with panic in his eyes. His mouth moving trying to make a sound to come out, but nothing came of it for a few seconds. I looked at my mother and saw that she was taking careful steps to get closer to my father, and that’s when shouted.     “Quick!! Hide now" Making us stop what we were doing not sure with what to do next. He came running towards me and took me in his arms and ran to this little space we had under the floor in our home. It worked as a basement. It was hidden under a carpet, which was next to our dining table. Moving the carpet out of the way, my father open the door and hurried my mother to go first. So she could help us to go down the stairs. Remembering I hadn't put the fire out. I run to the chimney and moved the woods so they would stop burning. All this while my father and mother were helping my sister Nadia to get in the basement. We were so focused trying to hide, we never listened when they were coming. Those things reached our neighbour’s first. One moment it was all a nerving silence, and at the other the air filled with screams of terror. And that was what alerted us. Making confused, except for my father, who started to tremble in fear. My father hurried us to move inside the improvised bunker, and closed the trap door behind him. In the exact moment our front door made a crackling sound. Something had crashed on it. We kept hearing the same sound three more times until the door gave in to the impact and broke. And now the creature that was outside had now an access to our home. In silence we moved through the small space and curled in a mattress on the ground together. Hearing the creature move thought the house. The house was pretty old so every time someone walked the floor would make a sound. So we knew were this creature was going. We could hear it sniffing around, as it was trying to find something. You could hear its heavy breathing getting closer and closer to the trap door. Making oust nervous. My sister started trembling and crying. My mother, trying to calm her, whispered in her ear shooting words. We were almost caught when we could hear a howling. A deep howl that made the thing inside my house turn around and leave the fastest it could. We stayed there for what felt forever. My father was the first one to move and open the trap door and take a look outside. He leaved us there for what felt and an hour until he came back with food and candles. My parents decided to stay there for the rest of the night. It was safer rather than staying outside. But unfortunately this repeated night after night after night. We knew that from now one this house was not safe, we had to move.  We were clever enough to stay and take notice in the patterns of this things. It was clear they would only attack at night. So in the day light it was safe to travel. But when the sun goes down you need a place to hide. They never found us in the basement, it seems how they never found us in the first three nights they lost interest. The news in the TV explained that the army was taking care of the creatures. They showed footage of them killing some of those things. And they asked the civilians to stay inside and wait for the help. Bunkers were being created to maintain the survivors safe. So we waited. A week later we had everything we needed. My father was a war veteran, so he thought he could take us to a safer place. He was the one getting out of the house to search for supplies, we had guns in the house so we were using that. But when you don't know who you're fighting, how would you know which weapons to use? So I would lie if I told you that what happened next didn't took us by surprise. I remember that day my father went out early in the morning to get something he forgot in the backyard. My sister and I were sleeping around that time. And my mother was preparing breakfast. And then was when it happened. One of the creatures stayed behind. Hunting a little rabbit that took shelter in a hole were my mother had her garden. My father was to focus in his thinking that when he noticed the animal, it had already it eyes on him. My father froze, not knowing what to do. The first to make a move was the huge animal that bolted in his direction. My father snapped out of his stupor when he saw the creature running in his direction. He managed to get out of the way, causing the creature to slam the back door hard. The sound scared my mother making her go out to meet my father. The screaming woke my sister and I, it confused us for a little bit until we recognized our mothers voice. The first to get up was my sister, she ran to the backyard, where the screams came and opened the door. Only to close it again and come running towards me. She carried me what I had walked and put us in the basement again and closed the hatch. She made a gesture with one of her fingers, to say I should make silence. We stared at each other in silence until the screaming stopped.  We stayed there, waiting for someone to come and say everything was fine. But no one came back. My sister was the first one to go outside the next day, she never let me got¿ with her. Not that I wanted to go. I could sense that what was outside would traumatize me so I never even tried to look. It was hard to live without them. But he had to try. My sister being the older one, was who collected the one to go outside and bring the food for us to survive. While I would stay inside and keep the fire going when winter arrived. We stayed in our house until a patrol from the government came looking for survivors. We had listened the rumours of a place full of people that the government had saved. With the help of the military, and the high powers they were able to build a safe house for everyone. That was located in the dessert, but the most amazing thing is that it was underground base. In my town only my sister and I, and other four people were alive. It was hard to look the ruins of the place I group to. Seeing the horror those creatures crated. The bodies on the floor and the dried blood that covered what used to be bright green. We travelled during the day. And at night the soldiers that were with us would guard, and shoot whatever would come closer to the truck. I never slept those nights, the fear wouldn´t let me. I knew they were there all the time waiting for the guards to fail. I would only fall asleep when the first ray of light would touch the ground. That thought stayed with me all the way to the base. We travelled for six days straight until we arrived. The base was hidden in a cavern in the dessert. The truck droved trough the entry for what fell ten minutes. Until it reached a big metal door that made a pitch sound when we were close. I listened when one of the others passages asked how they would know it was us and the soldier answered that there was a camera somewhere.  The doors didn´t made a sound when they opened. The truck dove through the door to a hallway well illuminated.  When the truck reached another door, the soldiers asked us to get off the truck. This door was similar but smaller than the other. When it opened there was a soldier behind it, waiting for us. He explained to us what would be our lives upon that moment and the rules we had to follow. They were very strict with that. He gave each one of us a room, but I never leaved my sister side. It was nice to have a safe place to stay now, a place where you wouldn’t have to worry if there was food for the night. We ate and showered before going to bed. I laid there facing my sister. Her eyes shining with tears. Seeing her cry was the last straw, and my eyes started to water.  I knew she missed our parents too but we still had one another. I took her hand in mine and we stayed there crying until we fell asleep.
