Tyler’s POV:
“Are you still in Indiana?” Sarah asks.
“Yes.”
“Alright. Let me talk with Dr. Gee and I will call you shortly. Is that okay, Gamma Tyler?”
“Yup. Talk to you soon.”
I hang the phone up trying to process the fact that my eighteen-year-old daughter is not only pregnant but possibly by a werewolf. I have nothing against werewolves as I am one, but werewolf pregnancies are incredibly hard on humans. I anxiously await for Dr. Gee’s nurse to call back as several things run through my mind. Mid-thought my phone rings and the caller ID reads, ‘Dr. Gee’s Office.
“Hello?”
“Hi Gamma Masterson, this is Sarah with Dr. Gee’s Office.”
“Yes, Hi. What did she say?”
“She would like to know if Amber has already seen a Doctor. And if so, who? We will need their contact information. She agrees that she should be seen down here, so she scheduled an appointment for Thursday at 2:15 p.m. Are you able to travel down here for that appointment?”
“Yeah, I will reach out to Alpha Kai or Alpha Ryker to see about having our jet sent up.”
“Okay, perfect! If you can email me her current Doctors name and contact information we will have everything transferred down here and then we will see you Thursday at 2:15 p.m.”
“Will do. Thank you, Sarah.”
“No problem, Gamma Masterson. Have a great evening.”
I hang the phone up and immediately call Alpha Ryker. He, as I assumed, has no problem sending our jet up to Bloomington to pick us up. He also asked that we stop by the compound so he can meet Amber and Sia. I did not disclose why I needed the jet, just that my daughter has an appointment with Dr. Gee. I have kept Amber and Sia away from all things pack-related on purpose. They’re human. They are my entire world and I will be damned if anything will ever happen to them because of my choices when they were babies.
“Amber, can you come here hunny?”
She slowly walks down the stairs, a look of defeat still plastered on her face. I know I haven’t been the most understanding with the drinking situation, but she’s my baby and I feel bad.
“What’s up, Dad?”
“Hunny, we are going to Florida on Thursday for a second opinion with Dr. Gee. She is one of the pack doctors.”
A look of confusion takes over her beautiful face, “Why a pack doctor?”
“I think you may have slept with a werewolf, hunny. It is the only thing that makes sense to me.”
“What?” her eyes widen in horror as she sharply sucks air in.
“It’s the only thing that makes sense to me, but we will see,” I smile as I walk into the living room.
Amber’s POV:
Dad’s words replay in my head “A werewolf”. Excuse me. The man showed no signs of being a werewolf, but then I wonder if I would be able to recognize one. Dad is human as hell, so he has no werewolf behavior, unlike some from what I’ve heard. I wish I could remember his name because if he lives in or around Florida he is within our pack territory and there is a possibility someone might know him. I shrug it off and head back to my room to rest. I replay that night over and over again, trying to remember his name. I wasn’t drunk when he introduced himself. Why can’t I remember? I could tell Dad about B.E.D. but then he would confiscate Sia and I’s fake IDs. I guess I no longer need it. I laugh to myself as if I would ever use that again.
Thursday morning I wake up around 9:30 a.m. and grab a quick shower before we head to Bloomington Indiana Regional Airport for our flight down to Key West Regional in Florida.
“Girls, we need to go,” Dad yells from the landing downstairs.
“We’re coming,” Sia shouts back at him.
The airport is only a fifteen-minute drive from home and once we arrive Dad pays for parking and the jet is ready and waiting for us. This was so cool. I have never been on a private flight before and our Dad also owns this jet. To think of all the commercial flights we’ve taken and then seeing this thing.
The flight is right around three hours and once we land we have to immediately head to Dr. Gee’s office. We have to go on to the mainland for the appointment, which takes forty-five minutes in the opposite direction. It is so beautiful down here and the sun is shining. I detest cold weather and would love to live in Florida. The cool breeze from the ocean, the sunshine, and bonus the heat!
This was a fancy doctor's office building, you could tell it was fairly new. The building was modern, with beautiful stonework in white with sandstone accents. The lobby was beautiful with a large fish tank and herringbone pattern travertine tiles throughout. As Dad and I walk up to the reception desk Sia takes a seat and plays on her phone.
“Hi! How can I help you?” a girl chirps.
“Gamma Masterson. My daughter, Amber has an appointment with Dr. Gee.”
“Hi, Gamma Masterson. Sorry, I didn’t realize it was you,” she smiles.
Dad smiles back but isn’t in the mood for small talk. She asks Dad a few additional questions about our address, my date of birth, and insurance information before handing him a clipboard with four pages on it. I snort as he huffs loudly and he is less than pleased with my laugh.
“Amber,” a woman calls over shortly after we sit down.
Dad nods toward the door, signaling me to go ahead without him. Rude. I don’t want to go back by myself, but whatever I guess. As we walk back to the room I notice how beautifully decorated this office is. Tons of beach-themed decorations adorn the walls and it has such a cool beach vibe in here. Not like a typical doctor's office at all.
“Alright, sweetie, we are going to stop here and grab your weight before we head into the room. My name is Sarah by the way.”
“Hi,” I smile softly.
“127.4,” she says as she notes it down on her wrist.
She checks the usual things, height, blood pressure, pulse ox. , etc. My eyes scan the room trying to figure out if the doctor will be a hippy or some cool beach Doctor. I know. I am ridiculous.
“Dr. Gee would like a urine sample from you and she is planning to do an ultrasound as well. If you could go pee in this and come back and change into the gown on the table we will be in shortly for your appointment.”
I nod, grab the shame cup, and walk to the bathroom. I swear I hate peeing in these things. It leaves such a bitter taste in my mouth. Once I am back in the room I strip out of my clothes, put the gown on, and shiver as the table is cold underneath of me.
There is a light knock on the door and I say, “Come in.”
“Hi hunny! My name is Dr. Gee! It is so nice to finally meet you,” she beams.
I laugh lightly as she is so bubbly and sweet, wow what a difference from the old winch I am used to dealing with. I almost snort at my thought of Dr. Griggs.
“Hi,” I return with a soft smile.
“So, your Dad tells me you’re pregnant, but there are some discrepancies between what your current doctor is saying and what you know to be true. Is that right?”
I already like this woman. She believes me. Even more than that she has no idea how good it feels to finally have acknowledgement from someone in this profession.
“That is right.”
She gently pats my knee, “That’s okay. We will get all of this figured out. I did check your blood work and it does compute to be around 13-14 weeks pregnant. However, it’s a computer answering the question of how high is the HCG. And Where would that put you weeks-wise with pregnancy.”
I nod as she continues, “Your other doctor, in my opinion, is a close-minded nag, but ultimately, human. No offense,” she laughs.
I laugh as well and nod with a glance at her.
“Alright, ready to find out if this is a werewolf pregnancy?”
“Yes. Please,” I reply.
