Love Around The Riverbend

As the South Dakota summer breeze blew through my hair, I took it as a sign that this summer would be better than the past few weeks have been. I just finished my senior year of high school with Chad, the person I thought was the love of my life and who I was meant to be with. Boy, was I wrong, on the last day of school we were invited to go to a party for all the seniors that had just graduated. I was a little hesitant at first since I wasn't exactly Ms. popular and I never knew what Chad saw in me, with him being a running back football star that had muscles bulging out of anything he wore, I thought I was lucky that he chose me over every other girl that wanted a taste of him. "OH come on babe it will be so much fun. I don't want you to miss out on it." Chad said, giving me a pleading look " I don't know Chad, I'm sure no one would even notice if I wasn't there." I replied. "I sure as hell would," called out April, walking up behind us. She was so beautiful, her soft auburn hair shining in the sun, wearing a light pink halter top with blue jeans that hugged her curves, her body could stop a truck if she wanted to. April has been my best friend since we were little, but i could tell something was off between us since she barely called or came around unless chad was there. "Exactly listen to your girl. We want you to come it wouldn't be the same without you." Chad said in a whiny voice while displaying his big blue puppy dog eyes. I couldn't help but smile not only was he hot but I loved him. "Um, I guess I could ask my parents if that would be okay." I replied sheepishly while my body felt like butter, wanting to melt in those baby blue eyes of his. Chad smiled and gave me a soft kiss on my lips that set my core on fire, and even though I am a virgin and wanted to wait until marriage, another part of me wanted Chad so bad that I'm unsure of how much longer I can hold out. could it be tonight. The three of us went our separate ways after school, Chad was off to say goodbye to his football coach, and April sprinted off to go shopping to find the perfect outfit to wear tonight. I made the short fifteen minute walk home, I was so nervous to ask my parents if i could go to the party even though I never gave them any reason to worry before, and they wanted to keep it that way. As I walked up my front porch and placed a hand on the door knob taking in one last deep breath before I walked in. As I closed the front door I heard "Is that you Nina". my mother's voice calling from the kitchen. "Yep, it's me, I just got in." I answered. Walking into the kitchen, my mother was standing at the stove preparing dinner. her hair in a loose bun and wearing a t-shirt and shorts, I could tell she had been working in the garden today due to her still having dirt on her legs. "HI sweetheart, how was your last day of school?" mom asked. "It was good, we pretty muched watched movies all day so nothing exciting". I replied "Oh, that's fun, honey. I'm making grilled parmesan chicken for dinner it should be ready soon." mom said Leaning against the kitchen island, I could feel my heart racing in my chest while I tried to build up the nerve to ask her about the party. "Um, mom, can I ask you something?" I said so quietly I didn't think she heard me. "Of course honey, what's on your mind?" mom asked. "Well, mom, you see, there's going to be this party tonight for all the seniors, and I wanted to ask if I could go." I answered, barely taking a breath while I talked. mom looked amused, walked over to where I was standing, wrapped her arms around me, and started giggling. breaking away from our hugs, she grabbed my hands. " Nina Jenson, you are one of the smartest and most responsible people I know. you've always been in your studies and never going out with your friends, you have never given us a reason to worry, and with that, you can go to the party tonight and I want you to have fun." she said smiling. I could not hide the grim on my face, I wrapped her up in a hug and thanked her a million times. after talking, I rushed up to my room to get ready. The only problem was I had no idea what to wear.
