We finally had the evidence we needed to expose Roberta's husband for his sinister plot. The phone, which Roberta had cleverly hidden, contained all the proof we needed to bring him to justice. As we scrolled through the videos and messages on the phone, Roberta's determination grew.
"Now that we have this evidence," I said, "you can finally expose your husband for trying to kill you."
Roberta's eyes narrowed. "But who can I trust to help me bring this evidence to light?" she wondered aloud. Suddenly, her face lit up. "I remember my lawyer, Mr. Wilberforce. He's the only one I can trust."
The next morning, I disguised myself once again and made my way to Mr. Wilberforce's office. I met with the lawyer, a middle-aged man with a kind face, and told him everything. I showed him the evidence on the phone, and his expression changed from curiosity to shock.
"Mr. Hanson could be arrested immediately," he exclaimed. "But where is Roberta? I need to speak with her."
I hesitated, unsure if I could trust Mr. Wilberforce. "I'll make sure she gets in touch with you," I said vaguely.
Mr. Wilberforce left the phone on his table and stepped out of the office, saying he needed to make a call. I waited for about 15 minutes, but he didn't return. I grew suspicious and decided to investigate.
I peeked through the window and was shocked to see Mr. Wilberforce walking towards the office with none other than Mr. Hanson. My heart racing, I quickly grabbed the phone and made a run for it. I hid in the washroom outside the office, watching as they entered the office.
As soon as they were distracted, I slipped out of the washroom and made a dash for my car. I drove off as quickly as I could, glancing in the rearview mirror to see Mr. Wilberforce and Mr. Hanson trying to follow me.
I had narrowly escaped, but I knew I couldn't trust Mr. Wilberforce. I decided to find Inspector Cooper and give him the evidence. But could I trust the inspector?
I thought back to our previous encounters. Inspector Cooper seemed like a fair and honest man, but I had been wrong about Mr. Wilberforce. I decided to proceed with caution.
I made my way to the police station, my heart pounding in my chest. I spotted Inspector Cooper sitting at his desk and approached him.
"Inspector Cooper," I said, trying to sound calm. "I have some evidence I think you should see."
Inspector Cooper looked up at me, a hint of curiosity in his eyes. "What kind of evidence?" he asked.
I hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. But something about Inspector Cooper's kind face put me at ease. I handed him the phone and told him everything – about Roberta, her husband, and the sinister plot to kill her.
Inspector Cooper listened intently, his expression growing increasingly serious. When I finished, he nodded thoughtfully.
"Thank you for bringing this to me," he said. "I'll make sure to investigate this thoroughly."
But as I turned to leave, I couldn't shake off the feeling that I was taking a risk by trusting Inspector Cooper. Had I just made a mistake?
