I was relieved after my meeting with Inspector Cooper. I felt like I could finally trust someone to help us. When I got home, Roberta was worried sick about me. She ran to me, hugging and kissing me all over.
"Take it easy," I said, laughing. "I'm fine."
I told her about my meeting with Inspector Cooper and how he seemed trustworthy. We both felt a bit relieved, knowing that someone was on our side.
I also warned her that lawyer Wilberforce could not be trusted. I told her about my suspicions and how I thought he was working with Mr. Hanson.
Roberta listened intently, her eyes wide with concern. "We have to be careful," she said. "We can't trust anyone."
I nodded in agreement. "I know. But I think Inspector Cooper is different. He seems genuinely interested in helping us."
Roberta nodded, a small smile on her face. "I hope you're right."
But our relief was short-lived. The next night, I went out to get some food. As I waited at the restaurant, I noticed a car parked outside. The guys inside were staring at me, trying not to be obvious.
I took my package and left, but I saw in the rearview mirror that the same car was following me. I quickly changed my route, trying to shake them off.
But it was too late.
The car screeched to a halt beside me, and two men jumped out, grabbing me.
"Where is Roberta?" one of them growled.
I struggled to break free, but they were too strong.
"You're not going anywhere," the other man sneered.
I realized that these men must be Mr. Hanson's bodyguards.
Just as they were about to drag me away, I heard a loud crash. The bodyguards turned to see Inspector Cooper's car ramming into theirs.
"Let him go!" Inspector Cooper shouted, jumping out of his car.
The bodyguards drew their guns, but Inspector Cooper was too quick. He shot one of them, and the other ran away.
"Are you okay?" Inspector Cooper asked, helping me up.
I nodded, still shaken.
"We need to get out of here," Inspector Cooper said. "Now."
We jumped into his car and sped away, leaving the bodyguards and their car behind.
As we drove, Inspector Cooper explained that he had been tracking the bodyguards. He had received a tip that they were looking for me.
"I'm glad I got to you in time," Inspector Cooper said.
I nodded, grateful.
But I knew that this was far from over. Mr. Hanson was still out there, and he would stop at nothing to get what he wanted.
We were in this together now, and I was determined to see it through to the end.
As we drove, I couldn't help but think about Roberta. I knew she was in danger, and I had to do everything I could to protect her.
"Inspector Cooper," I said. "We need to get Roberta to a safe place."
Inspector Cooper nodded. "I agree. We'll take her to a secure location, where she'll be protected."
I nodded, feeling a sense of relief. At least Roberta would be safe.
But as we drove, I couldn't shake off the feeling that we were being watched. I looked around, but I didn't see anything suspicious.
"Inspector Cooper," I said. "I think we're being followed."
Inspector Cooper's eyes narrowed. "Let me check."
He looked in the rearview mirror, and his expression changed.
"We are being followed," he said. "Hold on."
The car sped up, and we took a sharp turn. I held on tight, my heart racing.
We finally lost the tail, and Inspector Cooper let out a sigh of relief.
"That was close," he said.
I nodded, still shaken.
But I knew that we couldn't give up. We had to keep fighting, no matter what.
As we drove to the secure location, I couldn't help but think about what lay ahead. I knew that it wouldn't be easy, but I was determined to protect Roberta and bring Mr. Hanson to justice.
We finally arrived at the secure location, a safe house on the outskirts of town. Roberta was already there, waiting for us.
"I'm so glad you're safe," she said, running to me.
I hugged her tight, feeling a sense of relief. At least we were together, and we could face whatever lay ahead.
But as we settled into the safe house, I couldn't shake off the feeling that we were in grave danger. Mr. Hanson was still out there, and he would stop at nothing to get what he wanted.
We were in this together now, and I was determined to see it through to the end.
The suspense continues..
