Chapter Three  Cara's POV   I placed an array of food on the table, they'll be here soon. I'm sure I heard the bell ring awhile ago, most likely Mr. Blackwood. I was hand deep in sought at the time, so I didn't get the door this time. It was better that way, knowing Mrs. Throth, I'd most likely get a beating if I was caught interacting with the guest again.  I surveyed the dining table, the table was lit with all sorts of foods. There was a salad bowl, lasagna, garlic bread, chicken soup, freshly baked bread and... best of all, chocolate red velvet cake. I look so delicious, just sitting there, taunting me. I so wanted some, it was best I didn't though. I'd like to avoid any beating today and it's going well, all things considered.  It's too bad I don't get to taste a piece of my masterpiece, fit for a king. I swear she intentionally does this to me, a cruel punishment.  I was just about to leave when the door swang upon me, almost sacking me in the face. At the last minute I moved out of the way. Look where you go, the girl, Mrs. Throth, snarled at me, barely glancing at me. "Sorry Mrs. Throth," I apologised. I moved to the corner of the room, out of view.  "Don't pay here in any mind. She's not one of importance, just a spoilt brat."   I noticed that Xavier was sitting with Szbastion when he and Mrs. Throth entered. I wonder where he's at, I mused to myself.  As if reading my mind, the door opened and came Xavier. His tall frame gave of authority, someone you don't want to mess with and his handsome face, God such creation. An angel walking upon the grounds of Earth. Such beauty should be illegal. I couldn't help staring as he approached the table taking a seat beside Sebastion. I was enthralled,  in awe. I was so drawn to his aura and the weird feeling I was getting from him. Like we've known each other for years. It was so weird.  "Cara. Cara Nightwood."I was snapped out of my thoughts by a brutal tug on my arm. "What?" I replied. I blinked a couple of times. "You brat. You're such a useless piece of s**t. Are you deaf or something, didn't you hear me calling you? Brat."  "Sorry miss, I didn't, I-"  "I don't want to hear it. Did I ask you to talk? Don't speak unless you're spoken to. Know your place. You inco-" Mrs Throth was intrupped by a booming voice. "That is no way to speak to anyone, especially your Luna."  I was shocked, did someone just defend me and take my side?" What is happening? I looked toward Xavier. He looked tense, the same for Sebastion. I glanced between them, what is going on, what the hell, I was so confused, yet pleased, that this stranger defended me, not that I needed it.   "It's fine, it's my fault for not paying attention," I said, directing my response to Xavier.  Xavier seemed to be getting pissed by the second, why is he so bothered, he doesn't even know me. "It's not okay, she shouldn't speak to you that way. You deserve respect," said Xavier.  Mrs. Throth butted in. "Luna, how? She's just a servant,  nothing important,  she doesn't matter. Forget about it, Alpha, just ignore her," said Mrs. Throth, giving me a pointed look.  I glanced at Alpha and replied with a smile. "I really appreciate it, Alpha, but it's okay." This is getting really awkward. "I'm at fault here," I continued. Besides, she's right, I'm just a servant." I smiled at  Xavier. I really did appreciate his kindness.  Xavier seemed to have frozen in place. "Are you okay?" said Sebastion. They sat in silence for a few seconds. They seemed to be communicating with their eyes, I wonder what they were saying. This went on for a bit. It was starting to get uncomfortable, and I was getting really tired, my feet were killing me. Mrs. Throth glared at me before saying.  "So Alpha and Beta, what do you think of our girls? They're wonderful, aren't they?"  "Sure", replied Xavier, who looked disinterested. I sighed in relief, praying for no more disruptions. The conversation continued for a bit. Mrs. Thorth asked questions, Xavier half heartily responded, his mind elsewhere. Mrs. Thorth then signalled for me to refill the glass. I picked the bottle of fine wine and poured a glass. I started with Mrs. Throth, then Sebastion. When I got to Xavier I got nervous. Steadily I poured the wine, so far so good.  When I meant to pour the wine successfully I went to pull away as I did so our hands touched. Sparks flew up my arm, taking me by surprise. It was so unexpected I dropped the bottle of wine. The sound of glass impacting the floor snapped me out of the shock.   "You fool, look at what you've done." She strutted up to me, eyes blazing with anger. Her hand raised, I waited for the impact, my eyes shut close. Why does the universe hate me? I thought as I waited for the telltale sting, but nothing came. Slowly I opened my eyes and stared. I was met with Xavier's back to me. He held Mrs.Throth's hand in midair, stopping her from striking me, positioned between Mrs. Throth and I. I stared perplexed. My brain seems to be in shock as it couldn't seem to function properly. I was having a hard time processing what just happened. No one has ever stood up for me. It was strange, I wasn't used to it. This stranger did so twice.  "How dare you speak to my mate in such a manner?" roared Xavier. The force of his voice vibrated throughout the room, it was so intense. It held such power. I snuck a glance at Mrs. Thrith. She had a look of terror and a hint of surprise all over her face. I'd be laughing if I was not terrified of the consequences. What the hell just happened? .
