Chapter Eight: Report

1136 Words
It doesn’t matter if you were a king or street sweeper, we all fell to the grim reaper eventually. We had won our first actual battle against the league of light but Kamal dropped a bombshell, he told us the members we had fought were junior members, the weakest of all, I got agitated because they might have been easy to get through but it still took a whole lot of effort. My dad had escaped, he somehow managed to get away, I had so many questions to ask Kamal but we were kind of busy at the moment, we awaited extraction from the league of light and that came rather swiftly, they came with a jet and two spaceships, or two space prisons as they call it, the spaceships were used to convey meta humans who had betrayed the league of light to space, you could call them chariots of death because they didn’t imprison but rather ushered meta humans to their death, once they got to space, they were released into space without oxygen or food or anything, they obviously died soon enough. The members of the death squad were ushered into the spaceships and they looked back at me with despair, that made me feel a little bad, I didn’t want them to really die but I guess they were bad people, it was only fair. I wondered why they had to be killed tho, wasn’t that just polluting the solar system, besides, they were going to die eventually and killing them would probably never change the evil they had done but that was not in my place to decide. I was jolted out of my soliloquy by a firm touch on my shoulder, it was Kamal, he looked at me in a pitiful way, I wondered why he had looked at me like that but I honestly was not in any way ready for what awaited me. Kamal informed me that the general had ordered me to his chambers, I asked in surprise, what? The General was here? Kamal broke a smile and told me to relax, the general only wanted our mission report since this was the league of light’s biggest victory against the death squad. I nodded and asked where the general was, Kamal pointed over to a tent and I walked straight towards it but little did I know how big a mess I was in. The general was the supposed leader of the league of light, he was said to be the most powerful meta human, coming closely was my dad but after Kamal had handed him his ass, I sincerely doubted that was true. I got into the tent and I saw Jordan, Elizabeth and Zack in front of the general, the general did look intimidating, he paced around the room and when I entered, he gave me a cold hard stare, his deep green eyes fixed closely on me, I had seen his pictures in the league’s year books but I wasn’t expecting him to be so tall and macho, he looked like he could pulverize me and the long scar on his face made me uneasy. He asked me, “Why did you go after your dad when your orders were to specifically look at the death squad from a distance?” I wanted to say something but the look he gave me hard to talk, I opened my mouth and almost immediately, he bellowed at me “Speak!”, I looked at him and explained how Zack had disappeared and how his two squad members were dead, I explained how I tried to bring the fight to them before they finished us off but then, I heard things that made me astounded, words that I couldn’t even qualify as lies to avoid underestimating them. The general told me he knew everything that had happened and that for lying to him, I was going to surrender my position as leader of team alpha, he told me what Zack had told him, Zack had told him I let my father take him when we went to watch, he told the general I didn’t do anything while my father mauled him which was completely untrue, the general had however believed him, I called on Elizabeth to support me but she simply told me she wasn’t there when he was abducted, so, she wasn’t sure what had happened, I looked at Jordan but he just looked away. The General asked Elizabeth a question I found worrying, he asked her if she really meant what she said about me not caring when she had joined me with Jordan and although she was silent at first, it only took a look from Zack for her to rat me out, she said to the general, “That’s correct sir, he didn’t care about Zack when we arrived”, I wanted to argue but Jordan looked at me with worry, I knew better than to argue at this point, Elizabeth and Zack had dug my grave just before I got there. The general asked me if I realized that the death of the members of team beta was my fault and after my silence, he simply said the most hurtful words to me, he said to me, “Having received the mission report from your joint mission, you, agent Justin of team alpha has been deemed uncertain and has been charged with the allegation of treason and g******e. You’re hereby relieved of all duties to the league of light, your licenses will be taken from you, you’ll be placed under house arrest and you’re not to speak to anyone about this, is that understood?” I looked at him and reluctantly nodded yes. He then looked at Zack who smirked evilly at me, and that’s when it occurred to me, Zack was hiding something, where had he gone to, how had he done all of this, he must have had an evil plan all along, for all I knew, he could very well be a member of the death squad, a spy, it’d all make sense, it’d explain why he had never lost a mission or failed. I looked on as the general named him the leader of tem alpha, Elizabeth looked rather happy, Jordan not so much. Zack accepted the offer and got a hug from Elizabeth, Jordan went out immediately and I followed him, we got into the ship and I wondered just how bad my life had become because of a fake REPORT…………….
