Chapter 20: Love You would not be anywhere near wrong if you said I had no particular sense of danger and that I probably did not take anything seriously. In the heat of the moment all I could think about was a particular day of my life, one not particularly memorable but still gave me memories. I think it was back in third grade, my science teacher asked the class a question she claimed was easy but no one in the class could answer, she eventually called me to answer her question but I could only give the answer a clown would. The question was simple, she asked, “Why do humans drink water”? A particularly simple question, yes, but one I had no answer to, at least at that point, my reply to her question of why humans drink water was rather awkward, I told her it was because we could not eat it, the entire class burst into laughter, I really did not understand why but I guessed it had something to do with my answer, I could not help but smile, however, my teacher was unimpressed by my answer, in fact, it appeared as though I had incurred her wrath, she gave me marching orders out of her class and had me reported to the principal, she claimed I was mocking, obviously, it seemed she was right but I really was not trying to mock her, that was my answer. The principal had a lengthy discussion with me that day, he reminded me of how my mother was dead and the fact that my dad was a wanted international criminal. He did not fail in mentioning that the league of light, a very generous and caring organization had offered to take me in and take care of me, something they had done quite well, he told me to stop acting up and behave myself before the league of light decided to kick me out. I told him I was sorry and with tears falling from my eyes, I promised him I would behave myself. I was obviously not crying because I felt bad for what I had done, I was crying because he reopened wounds I was trying to heal, he reminded me about the horrible things I was trying my absolute best to forget he reminded me of just how damaged I was, and God knows, hatred was stemming from my heart to him. I did no regret what I did for a couple of reasons, first, I had not done it for an evil purpose, the second reason would be because it facilitated my first encounter with Elizabeth, I was still crying while I left the principal’s office, obviously being blinded by tears, I bumped into Elizabeth, I spilt her smoothie on her blouse and although I had expected her to react negatively, her first question was why are you crying, her question only made me cry harder, she told it was alright and asked me to wait right here for her, she gave me her handkerchief and told me to wipe off my tears, she told me she would be right back and ran off. I waited for a few seconds over ten minutes before she came back, she had taken off her blouse and now had a bomber jacket on. She also had two cups full of different flavoured smoothies, she told me she did not know what I had wanted and so, she had gotten me a pineapple and mango flavoured smoothie. I told her thank you and shamefully collected the cup from her. She smiled and told me her name was Elizabeth, I smiled and told her mine was Justin, she told me it was nice to meet me and I said likewise to her. We talked throughout the day and had so much fun, that was the first time I had ever been anything close to happy since the incident with my parents. I had never really stopped to think about it but Elizabeth had always made me happy, she was my first love and not only that, she was the only one I had ever loved, she was the one person who truly understood me, although I was unhappy she had tried to move on with Zack, I was still understanding, loving and compassionate. Why? The reason was quite simple, it’s because she was my first love and there’s the fact that true love can never be apart, maybe in distance but never in heart. Elizabeth was my first true friend, my first real friend, friendship is one of the hardest things to explain in the world, like love, it’s not something you learn in school, but if you have not learned the meaning of friendship, you have truly learnt nothing regardless of your age or position, that was what Elizabeth said to me the day she asked us to be friends and I can say that to an extent, she had taught me what true friendship and love should be about, even though she was not in a relationship with me. There was just this charm about her, she spoke in such a way that others would love to listen to her and she listened in such a way that others love to speak to her. That was one of the many things that made her truly wonderful and magical, although, there have been times when she has been quite savage, Jordan had once challenged me to a jumping contest, I advised him to endeavour to not embarrass himself since I could jump higher than trees, Elizabeth looked at me, shook her head and after passionately insulting me, she told me trees could not jump, so, the joke was on me, I tried to explain my point but neither of them made an attempt to listen to me. I also remember the time she asked me to tell her a joke, I did my best and told her my favourite joke but she was clearly unimpressed. She smirked at me and told me that was not funny at all, right before asking me why I was even alive, I did not even bother to make a comeback, I just hunched over and walked out. All the same, Elizabeth was very mature, it is said that it was not age that makes you mature, it was responsibility and trust me, Elizabeth was very responsible, quite unlike me, we made the perfect team because there was a balance between my recklessness and her carefulness. She had slapped me on one too many occasions as well but that was quite alright, at least, I guess. The first time was when she asked me why I loved staring at her legs so much and I told her it was because I wanted them to sandwich me, she had smiled that day but that did not stop her from slapping me, there was also the time I told her her legs were looking like rumours and I enquired if I could spread them, let’s not forget when I also told her the keyword for the day was legs and I was wondering if I could spread hers, she was really unimpressed and did well to give me a revolting slap. All the same, Elizabeth meant a whole lot to me, we had this strong bond, she breathed hope into my soul, she brought light into my life. She would undoubtedly die for me and I most certainly live for her. I know she’s sometimes mean and sometimes, she says things like who needs April fools day when your whole life is a joke but that did not change the fact that she meant a whole lot to me, she made me feel secure and happy, she was my world, I always felt safe next to Elizabeth, I knew who to trust, it was rather simple, it was Elizabeth, it was about time we made up anyway, after all she was the one I truly LOVE………………………………………………………
